Stephen A Smith: Brady's suspension to be upheld, Brady destroyed cell phone

The thing is how would anyone know Brady destroyed his cellphone? If he did, he certainly wouldn't have told Goodell that. Sounds like NFL spin for him refusing to give up the cell phone if the report is true.
I was wondering that too. Maybe they asked him for it at the appeal last month?

I have faith that no matter what, Brady is acting according to what his counsel advised.

If it isn't true, Brady might have the best defamation case against Smith...
I've always heard defamation cases are difficult to win but this...he'd ****ing deserve nothing less.

Smith is saying that "he heard that..." which covers him in any defamation suit, as he will claim he is a "journalist" and can not divulge his source.

I was almost excited for football again, back to not caring about this clown show it Is!!

Breaking! Stephen A Smith source has been identified:

No it isn't the guy who told him, it is his cat.

Absolutely - if this is not true and if Brady just sits there while this bloke spits out complete **** like this on worldwide television then I would lose a lot of respect for Brady.

Over to you Tommy over to you mate
I agree, but it is a dangerous game to play where you let yourself get baited into making statements every time some jerk makes an inaccurate statement. I think being quiet is a valid strategy.

Are people so stupid as to buy this s@#$ as a real story?

Sigh.

Yes...yes they are.

Here other thing Stephen A Smith said:
  • The League wants Brady to take this to court because they are confident that they will win (seems unlikely IMHO)
  • Kraft gave in because there is language in the Spygate punishment that if the Pats were caught cheating again, the League would ban Belichick. He gave in to protect Belichick.
Clearest indication that Smith is lying. The Wells Report pretty much cleared Belichick. How could he be held responsible in such an extreme manner?

I think he has been quiet for long enough.

Brady needs to take care of his legacy now. This is making me feel sick.

Tommy needs to go on the offensive this is a massive joke

I find it hard to believe if the Patriots were caught cheating and Belichick had nothing to do with it, he would be banned from the league. Steven A. Smith is a fountain of misinformation. Ignore the noise.

I believe the 4 game suspension. Everything else is either BS or NFL spin to smear Brady. Even if Brady destroyed the cell phone (which is stupid to begin with), he would tell Goodell he lost it not that he destroyed it. To think Goodell is confident he will win in court is funny too consider his track record. And the whole Kraft caved because Goodell threatened to ban Belichick is stupid since punishments were already given out and the Wells report exonerated Belichick.

If I had to guess, I would say this story is a plant to reverse the growing swell of support for Tom and against the league. They'll get everyone furiously chasing ghosts so they forget where their outrage should really be directed when the punishment is upheld.

Sadly, it will probably work.

Tom may have destroyed his phone anticipating going to court. The NFL can't demand his phone but
I believe a court case would make it mandatory if in discovery.
Destroying his phone doesn't necessarily imply guilt but rather his desire to protect
friends with whom he had confidential messages.

The Wells Report exonerated Belichick. Said specifically that he had nothing to do with it.

Yeah, it literally makes no sense. If he wanted to destroy evidence, all he had to do was delete the messages. But since he didn't turn over the phone, why would he feel the need to delete anything?

Maybe he got a new phone, wouldn't the data (including texts) transfer over? If so, what evidence could possibly have been on the old one? A self-created video tutorial on how to remove air surreptitiously from a football?

Remember that a number of the texts in the Wells report were forensically recovered. Wells used a data recovery company, Renaissance, to go through Jastremski's phone and restore deleted emails. McNally never gave his phone but supplied a paper copy of his text messages.

I'll bet Wells was hoping to find something on Brady's phone that was not on Jastermski's phone. That said, WTF would Brady allow that scum to go through his phone when the investigation in itself was based on nothing.

If I didn't know any better, I'd think this was some kind of last minute negotiating tactic from the NFL. It's just too absurd to hear something like that coming from Smith, but it's pretty far down the absurdity rankings over the last 6 months as a whole.

Even though Schefter works with that **** network ESPN I can still respect his reporting. Gets called out and then backs it up with sources if need be.

Who were Smiths sources? The barbershop? What a hack job.

Couldn't Brady have gotten a new cell phone since this all started? If he did he'd be crazy to hand over his old one to the provider for destruction, he'd risk them going through whatever may have been stored locally. No famous person like Brady would be stupid enough to do that.
