Patriots Place 8 on the Training Camp PUP List

Just the fact that none of Hightower, Jones, Mayo, or Siliga are on the list (all huge concerns for me) tells me that we should count this as good news. Real good news.

@scott99--As far as Easley goes, yes it was a gamble, but if the gamble ever pays off he could potentially be a top 10 draft talent. Not taking a WR last year is frustrating, but we can't really try to project how they'd have worked out in this system.

We have 1) Siliga, 2) Brown, 3) Sheard, 4) Chandler Jones, 5) Ninkovich, 6) Branch, and 7) Chris Jones as our top seven DL players. When you look at the amount of depth and talent, it's not difficult to envision a scenario where Easley starts the year on PUP and comes back in November, considering the bye week and the window to activate him. Obviously, that's assuming that there's concerns about the knee and that it's not just a minor setback. We'll obviously know much more in the next month.

Wow, a voice of sanity. If Easely misses the first half of the Season or another big chunk of it I can see some cause for concern but serious injuries happen to most players, Easely simply has the misfortune of having them to start his career. The Patriots rarely miss on first round picks and I expect Good things from both Easely and Brown.

With the amount of depth and talent that we have on the DL, it's possible that Easley may not have seen a ton of action to begin with, at least not as much as we'd have thought. Of course, this idea really grows when you consider his injury situation.

It would be disappointing to see him start the year on PUP, but it may also seem like the smarter and safer course of action, all things considered. We've got that week 4 bye etc, so it would actually give him all the way to November to heal properly, and likely replace someone else who's injured by then.

I hope it doesn't come to that, but Belichick may have some flexibility in that area to be a bit more patient.

So, Easley is not really needed. He was a flyer taken last year, whose potential is to be a top defensive player. It is not as if Easley was injured in the middle of his rookie year. He was drafted knowing that he was injured. Belichick took a shot and we'll see.

I mean, in the immediate (Sept/Oct) sense of the term "needed," no. Not in my opinion.

We have Siliga, Ninkovich, Chandler Jones, Branch, and Chris Jones. They also went out and brought in Malcolm Brown as their #1 draft pick. If that wasn't enough already, they brought in Jabal Sheard as one of the top (day two) free agent signings at 5.5m per year AAV.

Would Easley likely have seen time over rookie Brown? Sure, but it's certainly not anything that is going to keep me up at night either, and it's possible that Brown benefits from more playing time earlier in the season.

NE almost always puts a ****-ton of guys on PUP to start camp, so Easley being there is of little to no concern. If he remains there a few weeks into a camp and into the preseason, then it is worth worrying about.

I take this report as entirely positive, since I would have expected Mayo and HT to be on it as well.
Respect. I hardly think a guy going into his second season who was shut down in his rookie season and starting on the PUP list should be "of little to no concern." This is expecially since many or prognosticating a huge role for him this season. That's just my opinion, though. We've seen this before in NE. It usually does not end well.

That's my viewpoint too. I'm not worried about a player starting on PUP. There are always some players that start there who are then quickly removed. If he stays there in the middle of pre season the I'll start to worry.

Put me in the concerned about Easley camp. If he isn't ready by now, I am not sure he will ever be ready to play.

Guys who take this long to come back from injuries will generally never really come back. He may be in for a few games, but will just get hurt again. I have seen this movie before.

Is it possible that Easley failed the conditioning test which is why he is on the PUP list?

Chris Jones is on the PUP too.

Easley is definitely a concern at this point. And I say that as someone that liked the pick. However, no Mayo and Hightower on there is definitely a good thing.

Did Lafell have off season surgery ?...I thought I saw his name on the PUP list also......

What's up?

He was listed with a toe injury toward the end of the season and was seen in a boot over the summer. I can't find any other details but it's easy to piece together a possible scenario that includes surgery.

He avoided surgery from what I recall after being put on IR this past year and the fact that it's not completely 100% even after all the rest time is concerning.

He could wind up opting for another surgery if it doesn't completely heal to fix whatever issue there is and that will be another year lost.

Some gambles pay off and others don't. We've all seen it work both ways.

Before the start of last season I said I would be patient until the middle of this next season so I'll keep it that way.

As long as you aren't a patient.....;)

I agree and this is good perspective here too. I would almost rather Easley come back in November anyway so we have him when he's fresh and can help in the late season push to the playoffs and beyond.
Plus, this isn't even factoring in the role that Grissom and Flowers might play.
