Reading the thread about laughable punishment made me think, perhaps Goodell can craft a way out of this for himself.
Try this on for size: "I cannot undermine the integrity of the game by imposing serious sanctions against a star player without clear evidence of wrong-doing, so after hearing Tom Brady's appeal and taking into account other recent developments, I have decided to hold in abeyance any disciplinary action based on the Wells report, pending actual data from all the games played over the course of the 2015 season. The disciplinary action will be voided if the data shows there is sufficient variation from natural effects to approximate the measurements taken at halftime of the AFCCG, which were taken in response to questions raised during the game, without the benefit of established and well tested procedures as will be used in the future. If the actual measurements taken during the course of the 2015 season show no variation in pressure the suspension will be enforced."
Possibly with a $25,000 fine to Brady for failing to turn over his cell phone...
