Reading the thread about laughable punishment made me think, perhaps Goodell can craft a way out of this for himself.

Try this on for size: "I cannot undermine the integrity of the game by imposing serious sanctions against a star player without clear evidence of wrong-doing, so after hearing Tom Brady's appeal and taking into account other recent developments, I have decided to hold in abeyance any disciplinary action based on the Wells report, pending actual data from all the games played over the course of the 2015 season. The disciplinary action will be voided if the data shows there is sufficient variation from natural effects to approximate the measurements taken at halftime of the AFCCG, which were taken in response to questions raised during the game, without the benefit of established and well tested procedures as will be used in the future. If the actual measurements taken during the course of the 2015 season show no variation in pressure the suspension will be enforced."

Possibly with a $25,000 fine to Brady for failing to turn over his cell phone...

And he'll be throwing Wells, the Wells Fiction report and Vincent under the bus. If he had any of this integrity he speaks often of he'd do something like that but he doesn't care about getting anything right or throwing a star player who's been nothing but good for the league and his pockets under the bus for his own personal gain, he' a despicable human so I have no idea what he'll do other than it will probably be despicable.

The problem is he'll then need to explain why a $1 million fine and loss of 1st and 4th round picks still stands.

Improper team ball handling protocol, coupled with the forfeiture of appeal by RK.

Pretty convenient actually. He still gets to stick it to NE, and so the haters get to hate. Only TB gets removed from cross-hairs.

He can simply suspend the decision without making any promises.

If he needs Brady's and NFLPA's consent, he can surely get it.

I actually think this is a good course for him, because when he eventually confesses that the league got the science wrong the first time around, it can be spun as "Science is hard; who knew???" There's a huge constituency in this country for the proposition that science is too hard to understand or be accurate about.

That's the NFL's official stance about science anyway, specifically in the matter of concussions.

Time to man up Rog, you won't feel a thing, honest..............

The aforementioned proposal is quite simply a longitudinal study of the effect of NFL footballs by the environment and use.. something that many have advocated for.

This could be accomplished with supervision by some college or university to insure consistent and honest collection of data..

In the end if it shows that environment and use did play a part consistent with what was found in the Patriots balls, then void the whole thing and all of the penalties..

Why on Earth would Brady and the NFLPA be okay with delaying the decision for a season?

"Sure, Rog, you hold this over my head while you collect data from teams that have absolutely nothing to do with me, and with no oversight. You've clearly proven to be trustworthy. I'll wait!"

More likely, they'll tell him that it's zero games or court. Then, if the data bears out, they'd just issue a statement saying, "No ****."

A 90 second trip to the bathroom by a part time employee is going to cost the Patriots $1 million and 2 draft picks

It doesn't seem fair. Then again, nothing about the NFL seems fair anymore

You are too kind. At least Jax decided his fate.

If Goodell was a fictional character in SOA, I'd rather see him go out like Moses Cartwright.

I was going by the thread topic. If he went out like Most he wouldn't have "saved face."

he could step to the podium and announce the entire matter is being dropped and no punishments will be handed out to anyone. he could say that punishing any team or player on this amount of evidence is not in the best interest of the league and that much work needs to be done to standardize the penalty portion of the NFL codes of conduct.

I really just want to know Morts source
