I do think we didn't reach the tip of the iceberg yet but in fact there's no decision so we are still waiting the verdict, anyway, I believe in a few points:
1 - NFL doesn't have a smoking gun, either real or planted.
2 - Goodell doesn't want to back off for whatever reason, but he knows he has to, or should. This wait suggests they realized is the only way out. They are still chasing their own tale like a stupid dog trying to find another way though.
3 - Goodell's PR is already shot, it doesn't matter how this will end up, people will brought this up with a negative spotlight in the next NFL scandal. So in my point of view we are past the "Goodell wants to look good for the average NFL fan and media". From now on it's all about their dirty agenda.
4- If Goodell had any confidence, or anything substantial, he would have already hammered his decision and kept the 4 games, they have nothing and they know they are ****ed up in a federal court.
5 - If there is subpoena and electronic investigation I don't think they will find something chocking, they got to be smarter than this, I hope Goodell keeps surprising me though.
6 - With all that said, I still don't feel very confident and optimistic, I think the whole process is ridiculous and they are not even trying to fake anymore, I'm afraid the NFL has important people in their pockets.
That's what I find reasonable, now there's still room for some random ideas and speculations:
1 - That TV show that listed Brady in a list of people who we though were heroes, or decent, or whatever, and are cheaters, might be what Brady needed for a defamation suit.
2 - Wells is burned and it's not going to work in NFL investigations anymore. WHAT IF he covered his ass and already told Goodell that if he tries to use him as the fall guy he is going to make some facts public about his hiring. For all accounts he is a famous attorney, he must have street smarts. He already did a dirty job for the NFL before so it's not a long shot to think that fabricating reports in a multimillionaire industry is not going to end well every time.
3 - The report of last week of a Lawyer who advised the NFL before saying he couldn't believe Goodell put himself in this situation is substantial, he didn't only violated the CBA, he tore into pieces, threw up and took a dump all over it. If the NFLPA wanted something meaningful to target Goodell they have it now.
