According to FoxSports' Garafolo, the NFL is finally engaging Brady and the NFLPA in settlement talks:

Mike Garafolo said:
Sources have told FOX Sports the NFL Players Association and the NFL have had an open line of communication in recent days regarding a potential settlement of Brady's four-game ban for his alleged role in the Deflategate scandal. This follows reports from last week that stated the NFLPA's proposal was ignored by the league office.

That seems to have been the case for a while, though now it's possible the sides could be making an earnest effort to work toward a solution.

With the clock ticking toward the Thursday start of the New England Patriots' training camp, the communication suggests NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and his legal team would welcome a resolution that would include Brady and the NFLPA agreeing to forgo a lawsuit that could drag in to the regular season.

Of course they are!

Sources are never wrong.

There isn't much to discuss. Brady isn't going to accept a suspension. Brady holds all the cards, considering the NFL lawyers have told them they have NO chance to prevail in court. Brady would just be looking at the fine as better than attorney fees, energy focused away from football, etc.

This is merely the NFL posturing that they are trying to be reasonable and come to a resolution, since image is the only thing that matters to them. Ironic, since their image could not get any worse.

As much as I refuse to believe any suspension will be accepted, I can't predict it with 100% certainty.

Do. Not. Settle. I won't kill TB for taking a fine but anything more would be a soul crusher. But I'll remain confident as the NFLPA has rejected the idea of accepting any suspension.

If the court agrees to accept this case the NFL is screwed on just about every level.. there are violation after violation in the whole process...

Then there is the possibility the court might say that these are the agreed upon rules, so there is no jurisdiction..

It is a crapshoot..

Had to do a double take and make sure it wasn't our own Jimmy Garropolo breaking news.

Good to know the farce continues!!

Don't agree to anything but a 25k fine adjusted to inflation.

I heard that Brady is engaging the league in talks of sucking it.

TB gets:
no suspension
no fine
an apology for the false leaks
full exoneration

NFL gets:
no defamation lawsuit

Anything less?
GFY.

I believe that is the only thing TB12 can get out of a settlement.

Brady has staunchly maintained his innocence privately (and hasn't said much publicly), so it remains unlikely he would accept any settlement that includes sitting out any games.

Nice.

I think it's pretty clear that the league is terrified of a lawsuit. Otherwise, there would be no "negotiations," Goodell would make his ruling and that would be it.

When have we ever heard of him negotiating a punishment after an appeal?

This is Goodell looking for a way out of the hole that he dug.

Like @robertweathers said yesterday, the new football handling rules reported could've been the "trial balloon", and now today they could be looking to drop the suspension, maybe. IMO they are probably trying to get Brady to accept a 1-game suspension just for non-cooperation, and Brady is saying "no dice". Question is whether the NFL will cave and drop the entire suspension, or if they will risk a lawsuit.
