Patriots sign Tarell Brown

While I tend to agree, I do have a nitpick. I believe that Ryan has shown that he can be starter in a zone defense.
Tarell Brown also started all of last season, until injured in the last 2 weeks, and was a team captain.

Am I supposed to be excited for a corner that went unsigned until just before training camp?

Don't have to get excited but to act like him signing just before camp is a reflection on his talent is kind of daft. Brian Waters didn't sign until after training camp and he ended up being a Pro Bowler.

You're not required to get excited about anything. But if you don't view this as a net positive to our odds of fielding a competent secondary this season, then I pity your lack of general life enthusiasm and wish mercy upon you from whatever deity (or the universe if you're an atheist) you happen to worship.

It’s kind of like waking up and realizing that a company that you own stock in diversified away a small amount of risk, slightly reducing its beta and marginally increasing its upside. I’m wicked excited. :D

Seriously, I got excited because my Dunks coffee this morning was made perfectly, so this news straight up made my day! I like the little things :D

Don't need to pity me at all. I'd never ask anyone to waste their time

I don't have a sense of how good/bad the new corners are going to be that have been brought in, but I am very happy with this signing because I felt we were thin in the cornerback group. I especially dislike being thin with the skinny players-cornerbacks and wide receivers going into.

I think we will be ok with this group and we need the financial flexibility to sign some of the guys coming due for their second contract.

That is pretty key. Starting the day off with a bad cup of coffee is a very bad thing.

Make the switch to Starbucks. I did a few months ago and haven't started the day with a bad cup of coffee yet.

I absolutely would, but there isn't one (surprisingly) located convenient to my commute. I could get up earlier and go, but I know that ain't happening.

Fletcher isn't that bad when you don't leave me on an island against #1 WRs, like the Eagles seemed to do a lot.

I think BB keeps McClain for the slot and let's Brown, Fletcher, Cox, Roberts battle it out for two spots while Butler/Ryan are locks. IMO, Roberts upside wins out.

Yeah I'm in a weird position where going to DD (which I used to prefer) would have taken me completely out of my way and, yet, you can't swing a dead fish without hitting a Starbucks. I began going to them out of convenience then I got hooked on the crack that they secretly sprinkle in their iced coffee.

This can't be bad - because with the unproven nature of what is on the roster today, another option is welcome. I am still in the "concerned about the CBs" corner and will be until one or two of those guys shows me something. With Revis/Browner I was confident. Revis' importance - IMO - was great, even though many on here enjoy bashing him. Screw the words he says - Revis can play.

Let's hope this signing pans out, that a few of the CBs turn out ok, and the front 7 is epic.

But beta only measures the risk that cannot be diversified. It doesn't consider risk due to idiosyncratic factors. ;)
