Just to add to your thoughts, the 4th quarter defense that occurred in the three postseason games was likely the biggest difference maker between that elusive 4th ring and another heartbreaking loss.

I don't have concrete numbers and am just going off of memory alone, but I don't believe they allowed more than 3 total points in the fourth quarter of those three games combined.
Correct.
Seahawks were shut out in the fourth quarter.
Colts were shut out in the second half (only scored once all game).
Ravens kicked a FG in the fourth quarter.

Definitely what we've been missing lately during some of our heartbreaking playoff losses, not that I'm meaning to take anything away from the clutch offense either! Great effort on both sides of the ball.

Defense wasn't the reason we were so great last year. So I don't see why that should matter.

Many years ago, Chuck Fairbanks said you need a well-balanced team to win the SB - defense matters, even if it's not where it was a dozen years ago.

I'll be content with the Pats winning SB50 with the most scrutiny ever and Kraft with a subtle remark they had it coming.

If the Pats win SB50 I hope we hear absolutely NOTHING from SpongeBob.

Just let the REAL heroes take their bows.

^ on the main thing we agree.

Just let the rest of the world stew that the Pats absolutely earned SB50

It won't surprise me one bit to see this team back in the SB even with the awful secondary. We have the division locked up. Colts? Broncos? HA. I can see the chargers being good this year. Or at least much better.

the perennially tough Baltimore Ravens say Hi!

Wow! Why the sudden drop by the Ravens? The have key guys coming back off injury and we could easily have lost to them in January...again. Play us much tougher than anyone in the AFC except the hated Jets.

Tough division... just not high on them this year. At least not winning the division.

Yeah, as much as I agree with @Brady_to_Moss about the parity in the AFC North, Baltimore is just one of those teams where it doesn't matter if they get in as the last WC slot.

'09, '11, '12, and '14 all saw tough postseason match ups vs. them. Count them as a team I'd rather not face.

Oh i would rather not face them if it boils down to it..i just see a much different div this year...( i know begals always 1 and done..but Pitt is no cake walk and Browns always play them tough now

Shmessy, that is the worst thread title I've ever seen. Makes me want to book my yearly check up early.

The great second half defense actually extended back through the last 8 games of the regular season. The defense really jelled and once they got a feel for a team in the first half they shut them down in the second half. Over that the last 8 regular season the Seahawks and the Pats held teams to the fewest 2nd half points.

Browns could go 0-16 for real.
