PFT: Settlement Talks Have Taken Place

And still Mort has no comment about how he was used?

This is why he'll keep it at 4, on to court it goes

Attorney Gregg Levy, who was one of the finalists for the job Goodell received in 2006, participated in the Brady appeal hearing as a legal consultant to the Commissioner. It’s believed that Levy has been warning Goodell that it will be difficult to make a suspension stick in court, even under the heightened standard that applies to challenging the outcome of a private arbitration agreement.

So while there’s still no good way out of this mess for Goodell, the safest course for him personally would be to hold firm and to force a court to reduce the suspension — since Goodell suffers little or no P.R. consequence when one of his disciplinary decisions is reduced or wiped out by someone else

Goodell just spent 4 million dollars for nothing and his suspensions mean nothing.

None of us can ever believe any stories about this stupid, ridiculous incident. It started with the lies from Mort and hasn't gotten any more reliable since.
It started with lies fed to Mort from the league office.

Yea... You are right Tunes. And universal hatred towards the Patriots helps everyone outside of the NE fans eat it up.

"Per the source, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is being pushed by a small handful of influential owners to hold firm on the four-game suspension. Working against that pressure, however, is the fear that the four-game suspension would be wiped out by a federal court."

Thoughts on who those "owners" are?

My guesses:
Irsay
Biscotti
Jones
Allen

Irsay? He said influential, not under the influence.

This leak, if true, means some of the owners are pushing their own agenda and not in line with Goodell's decision. Then again, why would they be involved in Goodell's arbitration process?

Perhaps the NFL just blinked?
I'm not sure "agenda" is the right word. What owners are pushing is an attempt to gain a competitive edge which if successful would mean added $$$ in endorsements, merchandise sales and publicity. The NFL is not sport. It's a structure in which 32 corporations compete daily for market share and product enhancement. Any opportunity to weaken an opponent has to be considered.

Agree. I like Jerry Jones as an example. I have the feeling that Jerry is one of the owners that would be totally on board with dumping Goodell. This is partly due to the salary cap penalties that were imposed on him by Goodell for spending over the "limit" in a year there was no limit. As bad as Deflategate has been, I find that penalty just as contemptible as what's happened here.

But Jerry knows that Kraft was likely one of the guys that pushed for that penalty. So as much as Jones may not like Goodell, this is his chance to get revenge on Kraft. Jones likely knows this is all a sham, but Kraft didn't support him in his time of need, so he's not supporting the Patriots now.

Brady will except nothing less than full exoneration. I hope this goes to court so Roger and the good ol boys get taken to the woodshed.

This leak seems like another attempt by go-to-hell to gauge the direction and level of public outrage before making a decision to screw Brady.

I am amused by the fact that every person who thinks Brady is innocent, says so publicly.........whereas the ones who want him hung are anonymous.......sackless owners should go public....its easy for them since goodell will take the fall in the end

I am glad it is working out this way.........having a one game proposal would be tempting in some ways........keeping it at 4 games is 2nd best to no games at all

I find it hilarious that people are misfiring so badly on the list of owners that are pushing for Goodell to maintain his wrong stance.

Woody Johnson, people!

The only owner that counts.

The man supplies the NFL front office with personnel. He publicly tampered with another team's under contract player in December (during the season) during a press conference and walked away with all of his draft picks intact (while the team he tampered with lost their 1st and 4th for being, according to the league, completely innocent in Deflategate).

That's Mussolini in Milan circa 1938 type of power.

And of course, the Pats lost the tampered with player as well, who also happens to be a future 1st ballot HOFer.

Is it important to know who the owners are? what purpose does it serve to know other than to rant on n on. What is important is that a number of owners have objected to any reduction and if this report is true, it makes Kraft come across very naive

Thoughts on who those "owners" are?
The owners of teams the Pats play:
Week 1....Pitt
Week 2....Buff
Week 3.....Jacksonville
Week 4......Dallas..............No doubt in my mind Jjjjjjerrrry is spearheading Operation Neuter New England

This makes me despise Kraft even more.

No, no!!! He's a great man that did what he did so stop badmouthing him you big meanie!

In all seriousness, if the report is correct, it spells out that it wasn't Kraft vs. 31 other owners. Instead, it was Kraft vs. a "small handful" which makes him taking it in the ass all that much worse. If I'm Brady, I don't even so much as accept a fine. Threaten court action and the NFL's butthole should pucker up. They know that report and subsequent punishment was a joke. I want nothing less that to see the draft picks returned and Brady's four game suspension dropped. Kraft can still get fined though because, well, **** him.

That's just what I said in another thread. The best way out of this for Goodell personally is to bull ahead, take the loss in court, and then take the position that "I tried to uphold the shield but the court didn't see it my way". While this would have him catch flak as weak and stupid, anything else will make him look more weak an more stupid and ignorant.

It's insane that owners are allegedly trying to influence the punishment for a player from another team

From the ineffective bone-headed commissioner to the corrupt biased league officials to the entitled good-ol' boys group of owners, the NFL has got to be the most screwed up organization in the US

And meanwhile, our fantastic owner is just sitting there willfully wondering where the next C-note is going to come from.

This just proves what we already knew. The NFL is corrupt at its core. Other NFL owners lobbying over the disciplinary decision of a player on another team? Fricking ridiculous.
