Latest Reiss thoughts on the league

Oh boy, let the "Which poster is Mike Reiss" game begin!

I don't know who he might be but it's a common social media tactic by marketing or product professionals to "float" ideas or ask probing questions on forums to help get a sense of what messaging or products might appeal to their target audience.

One thing is for certain....I am not Mike Reiss.:D

Nothing strong on the article, classic Reiss, a nerd post. Calling the report shaky means nothing, as of now is a common point in both sides that the report is pure garbage. By the way to consider strong language I would expect at least the word garbage on the article.

That article from that woman from Washington Post is strong language. Reiss won't go much further than this.

But, not every reporter follows it closely, read this from the NFL report at Washington Post (where Sally Jenkins works)
-------
4. Patriots’ penalties

Should the Patriots’ DeflateGate penalties be reduced if Brady’s suspension is cut?

Why would they be?

The Patriots chose not to appeal their $1 million fine and loss of first- and fourth-round draft choices. The NFL regarded them as repeat offenders under the sport’s competitive rules, and there would not have been much room for a reduction of the penalties after Coach Bill Belichick and the team were fined a total of $750,000 and the franchise was stripped of a first-round pick in the Spygate case.

If Brady’s suspension is reduced, that is a reduction of the Patriots’ penalties.

-----

This is from Mark Maske, their NFL reporter. He probably believes the Patriots are guilty and is not open minded enough to even consider that no deflation happened at all. This is what we're dealing with.

This may be an initial probe at getting himself freed from the tentacles of the evil bspn monstrosity, by acting out enough to get fired. But this wasn't enough to do it.

It also wasn't far enough down the line of TRUTH for my liking. He doesn't feel brave enough to say that THE EVENT NEVER HAPPENED (or they never proved it happened), but rather just they didn't prove TB was involved. Further he goes off throwing a piece of red meat to the hyenas saying 'perception of previous favorable treatment'.

Exactly what favorable treatment was that, being the first team to give up a first rounder for a coach (who was on the open market-technically), the first team to give up a first rounder for a grounds keeping rule book violation, being the first victim of illegal player poaching to NOT GET ANY COMPENSATION (and for arguably one of the top ten players in the league right now).

For a Boston beat reporter, I think he needs to be the one to give the SMACK back at the other 31 cities' media and call BS out when it's BS, not cowtow to their propaganda to fit in.

If the league had suspended Favre for non cooperation then there would of been precedent at least with Brady not turning over his phone. Roger and his cronies are doomed and they can put any number up there they want. It won't stand in court. The wrong doing is so pathetic I'm still shaking my head how dumb these guys are. For Roger not to excuse himself from the appeal is also going to set Brady free although he would of already been had he excused himself in the first place.

I guess instead of bring your kid to work day or jeans and t shirt day Espn suck station is allowing a defend the Patriots day? It ends at midnight Mike.

I thought it was strong. Florio has pointed out numerous times that the Wells Report was flawed and the league is arbitrary but he hasn't flat out said that the suspension should be fully lifted. Reiss goes that next step and says the FAIR outcome is 0 games, which I have not really seen in the press.

Christine Brennan at the Washington Post says hi.

 Oops

Despite Clonamery somewhat saving me on that one, I must admit I DID mean Sally Jenkins.

Good, clear analysis of the spectrum available to Goodell:
Is he, Tone deaf? Goading Brady? Playing it safe? Strategic? Fair?

IMHO, he can't do what is fair because he'd have to admit he wasted the $5 mill and then throw Kensil, Vincent, Wells and himself under the bus. He'd lose the control and loyalty of his staff, who know where ALL his skeletons are buried, and would be kicked out as commissioner by irate owners after this term, if not sooner.

He can't leave it at four or even three games because (a) it would make it 100% certain that Brady would go to court and (b) also increase the likelihood that a judge will take the case with a sympathetic attitude.

The best available "smart" option is the Strategic option (one game) where he's essentially throwing a Hail Mary and hoping that Brady won't go to court. In doing so, he will have to take the consequences of looking "weak" to the ravenous media hoards and the owners who want blood. That's what I would do if I were in Goodell's position and had painted myself into the corner into which this ****ing idiot has painted himself. I'd want to do my best to avoid the court case and would realize that I was going to have to be ready to take the hits from the owners and the media in order to do so.

I'm betting he'll "play it safe" and go with two games, where he can look tough to the owners and mediots and also try to hold out the hope that this will make it less likely that a judge will take the case.

Why would Goodell reduce it to anything less than 2 games. The slander is already successful. Deflategate and Brady's suspensio9n is the first question the media will ask players/coaches, and management for the next 2 years, afterward it will drop to the 3rd question.. Deflation, Patriots and Cheating has become part of the cultural lexicon, DESPITE all the holes in the Welles report, not to mention bad science. Family Feud made a joke of it, while Mr. Robot turned Brady into a pariah. The Welles report pronounced Brady and the Pats guilty, and the media piled on. Now every media story is framed as a Guilty Brady looking to prove himself innocent, and outside of Pats fans, no one really cares. It was never guilty until proven innocent. The Salem witch trials were more just.

And then there is the issue of the draft picks and the money. that ship has sailed, thanks to the grievous error made by our heretofore error free owner (for the most part). The fact is that I will eventually forgive Kraft based on the great job he has done as owner up to that point, but that earth shattering faux pas has PERMENTENTLY scarred not only the talent level of the team with the loss of the picks, but the very brand, he worked so hard and risked so much to build. To say this was an egregious error in judgment could be the biggest understatement of the year.

But we all make mistakes and we've all had a few "eggregeous" ones. Besides forgiveness is a universal tenant in most religions. So the day will come when I will embrace Bob Kraft as the best owner in Boston, ....but not anytime soon.

What I'd really like to hear from someone is that when Brady wins in court, or the Welles report is finally outted as the heinous fraud it is, a plausible scenario showing how we get those picks back. The only chance I see that happening is Brady winning a defamation suit, but that's just me.

True forgiveness should only follow genuine repentance. I don't see Kraft having a legitimate epiphany any time soon.

Drop it to two and let's move on. It will not be wiped out completely, nor will it stand at four. Like Patfanken said, the damage is done and everyone believes NE cheats all the time. So be it. Let's just keep winning and let the haters believe what they want. It sucks, but whatever.

Well there is truth in that, DI. It would go a long way to mend some fences for him with just a simple, "sorry I F'd up"

My money is that he reduces it to three to get some separation from the linking to Hardy.

Either way Ben Violin says the decision should come in the next day or two, if not then maybe three.......

I see Kraft trying to give another drunken " TONIGHT WE ARE ALL PATRIOTS " at the banner raising and getting booed out of the stadium.

Sad but likely true.

$226 million revenue sharing dollar reasons this year not to care what the fans really think.
