As a new week begins, a source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that the Brady camp expects a ruling this week.

Goodell has had post-hearing briefs from the league and the NFL Players Association for more than two weeks, and the coming week will be the last one before the launch of training camps.

The source describes the anticipated outcome as a “sham,” with litigation to promptly follow.

This whole thing is a sham.

The hearing was a month ago. Why does it take so long to make a decision?

Goodell has to uphold the suspension, or admit that his office made up the entire controversy.

He can't however, keep it at 4 games because he will then open himself up to all the Brady punishment is the same as Greg Hardy questions.

I think he lowers it to one or two games and gets Kraft to try and convince Brady to take it. I would be so pissed if Brady does. I think it would be easy for Brady to get an injunction, and then crush the league in court. the proble, form the league is if this drags out into the season, then Brady's team can begin to amass actual inflation data from games, which will of course prove that their was no deflation.

You had me until the last line. I have no doubt Brady would prefer to be traded or released than be forced by Kraft into taking a deal in which he's suspended.

(I realize you said "gets Kraft to try" so technically I don't disagree. However the attempt by Kraft will be laughed at).

I think Goodell will never issue a ruling and Brady will play every game until he retires. I'm looking forward to threads that say that Roger Goodell's Last Will and Testament is expected to be read next week so we can finally find out his ruling from beyond the grave.

I have a picture in my head from Animal House. Kraft on one side and DeMaurice Smith on the other.

I agree with what Tom Curran just said on the air o WEEI. The appeal was a sham. Nothing said in it really mattered. Goodell is going to do what he always does is stick his finger in the air and see what the public opinion wind (along with the feedback from owners and others around the league) and give a ruling that will appease the most people (which will eventually blow up in his face and make everyone look bad).

This is interesting.....Who do you think the "source familiar with the situation" is? Is it someone in Tom Brady's camp? That would mean the NFL has already told them what the ruling is. I doubt that.

Is it someone in the league office who knows this whole thing was a set up? Seems more likely. Let's get that guy to talk to the press if it is.

"expected THIS week"
Reminiscent of the ongoing "This, THIS is the week Ocho Cinquo breaks out!" threads.

it doesn't ---- you have to be bs'ing yourself to think decisions haven't been made.

I don't understand why I see so many ppl around twitter and the internet waiting on this decision --- do you ppl actually think this is in any way legit?
this is like a mexican soap opera -- just wait for the next ridiculous scripted event and we're on to court.

I don't know what to expect. I get caught between "No way Goodell's people let this go to court they could all lose their jobs" and "Goodell is so arrogant even though he knows nothing happened he doesn't want to look stupid right now so he upholds his decision". These things keep going back and forth in my head, maybe it's because I read such wildly varied opinions on here.

If Goodell REALLY wants to kick the can down the road, he takes the idea Peter King (and SMY, who I first saw mention it) has and measure it for a year. To me, it at least gives the appearance of "upholding the integrity". And while I have no faith in them doing it correctly, I think it will keep Brady supremely motivated.

I don't know. It's a mess. If Goodell was smart, he'd assign a fall guy now (Troy " The Rat" Vincent would be perfect), fine Brady for not turning over his phone, and hope people will finally focus on football once training camp starts in the next couple of weeks.

Goodell's best option is to throw Wells and/or Exponent under the bus. I doubt the NFL could possibly give Wells firm anymore business (at least nothing with any degree of visibility) and there must be some cover with the attorney/client privilege. The rest of the NFL owners would have to be satisfied that the $5m got the NFL a ton of off-season publicity and cost their rivals two draft picks.

Reiss has said previously that Wells wouldn't likely be used again because he's complained openly and to the league about them not supporting him.

As far as attorney client privilege, if the NFL claims that, then Wells wasn't really an independent or outside investigator.

goodell isn't reducing anything.
brady gets the same suspension as that scumbag hardy. incredible really...

tom will have to go to court. why is everyone so sure that a judge will vacate the suspension?? what if they uphold the nfl's case?? then brady will be convicted by a real court of cheating...that would be the worst case scenario...

I hope the Pats DEMAND that the league take and publish readings of balls, for the upcoming season, for ALL teams to be taken before, during, and after games using controlled conditions of the same calibrated gages, same environment, and same storage conditions, and same time elapsed when removed from the playing environments.
