"Hey Dan what's your career higlight?"

Was a solid piece of pur offensove line for many years. Best wishes for retirement Dan!

Dan Connolly is a good example why the Pats have prevailed over the last 15 years. He was a guy who came into the league a very marginal player. We see them all the time all over the league, especially among OLmen,. 2 or 3 years in the league, 14 games 3 starts, and gone. Dan was well on the road to that kind of NFL career when he joined the Pats.

But the Pats did what they so often do so well. They found a guy with right character,. A guy who was willing to do what he needed to do to get better, A coachable guy who had great coaches. A guy who did enough to stay on the roster, so when his opportunity arrived he seized the moment.

From 2010 to 2015, Dan Connolly was the guy most Pats fans and so-called experts wanted upgraded and gone. He was the OL starter who was everyone's whipping boy, until Ryan Wendell took his place. The Pats saw someone who was improving with every year and had the patience and foresight to let it happen. Wendell is having a similar career, and when his time ends, he will also be fondly remembered as another obscure Patriot no-name that simply "did his job".

I think Connolly wanted to play this year, but only if he could get an offer in the $2-3MM range. When it became clear he was looking at Vet minimum deals it just wasn't worth risking more concussions and up rooting his family. He's a bright guy who probably earned around $10MM over his 10 year career, (most of it coming the last few years). He's set up well to move on to the next phase of his life.

As fans we should look more closely and have the same kind of foresight and patience the Pats show to those certain line of players that THEY deem worth the wait. We've seen too many examples over the years to demand immediate gratification from everyone all the time. So remember Dan Connolly before you post demands to release Kline, Barker, and Devey, because its pretty likely that one of those guys will end up being a key starter for the Pats before his career is over

congrats on a solid NFL career.

This essentially guarantees one of the rookies starts at offensive line.

Interior depth chart is something like:
Stork
Wendell
Jackson
Mason
Kline
Devey
Andrews

Not only did he keep the train running in 2010 when Mankins held out, in 2011 he stepped in for Koppen and played a very, very good center position.
That 2011 OL was one of the best ever in Bill's tenure, and without question the best since then.

That is absolutely depressing.

That is absolutely depressing.

It is when it gets to Kline and below. I like how nasty the rooks were in college and have my hopes that they can bring that kind of physicality to the pros.

I hope he stays in New England ... a quality man for sure who has the stature to help others.

Another great story for young kids who love sports and get cast aside by coaches who love the early bloomers.

Yes- Connolly was an upgrade over Koppen.

Light, Mankins, Connolly, Waters and Vollmer were outstanding.

The 06/07 lines with Light, Logan (All-Pro) Koppen, Neal and (gulp) Kazur were also very good.

I heard that health was an issue Dan had 4 concussions, vey good decision to look after his long term health.

Wish Wes Welker would follow his example.

I gotta give some credit to Michaels and Collinsworth, their announcing of it just added on to the fun. It doesn't matter how much you hate the Patriots...any NFL fan should have enjoyed that moment (except maybe a Packers fan).

Thank you, Dan! Best of luck in your future. :)

Instead of an ex-Boston athlete having a newspaper full page thank you AD to all the fans...this is one of those times it would be nice to have an AD from us fans to number 63. What a classy guy. Thank you Dan.

"Hey, Dan -- what's your career highlight?"

One of the most memorable announcing calls of my life too.

And the source of my sig. :)

How about we all pitch in a penny and get him a Vermont Teddy Bear?;)

I wish that Neal hadn't been injured in the '07 SB; I would like to have seen how the outcome
might've changed, if at all.

I initially thought that Connelly may be a candidate to return for one last year, but the reports a couple of weeks ago stating that he had lost significant weight pretty much confirmed that he was retiring.

I share the concerns regarding the OL since it means that we're forced to depend on rookies. Maybe we can snag one more veteran signing during roster cuts?

Another graduate of the "Dante Scarnecchia Finishing School for Offensive Lineman".. nice career, always favor these blue collar hard nosed types..
