is espn a giant bubble about to burst?

I only stopped cord cutting to get Sunday Ticket, which I've since cancelled in protest of all the crap the NFL's pulled over the past couple of months. Might be time to jump back on that wagon, and all the better if that means playing some small part in ESPN's implosion.

I've stopped watching ESPN mainly because it's garbage television. Very little other than actual sport contributes to my enjoyment.

A quick recap of every show on ESPN over the past 10 years.

NFL network #2? Why am I not surprised... @BradyFTW! Do you use OTA then?

I look forward to the eventual demise of cable TV. It's overdue in my opinion.

Unfortunately telecom companies will just jack up the internet price to compensate. In fact they're doing it right now.

So I can see both side of this. I remember the days before cable and satellite where i got 2 games each week and that was all the football you saw on Sunday. That sucked especially for me living in western NY and being a patriots fan. I watched alot of Bills and Giants. The only peek you had at other teams were MNF and religiously tuning into inside the NFL once it came on air and cable arrived in my neighborhood.

FF to today. Yeah cable packages are a glut and this needs to change to a better model of pay what you use. I will say this could mean alot less retired X pros (since they cant afford to pay them all)on ESPN which is also a good thing I mean how many of these guys do we need for every sport. It certainly wasnt like that in 1982 or whenever cable actually got to my house. There was like 4 anchors.

No. Let's talk marketing not sports. I think I'm on record of hating E!SPN. That said, the have prime real estate sewn up.
Like if JIF had eye level store shelves in the Peanut butter isle and Skippy was in the corner surrounded by pickles.
If you go to a gym with TVs the sports option will be ESPN. It was one of four picked by a non-sports fan because to the non-sports fan it has name recognition.
No, they are not unassailable. Ask Schaffer beer how's business been since the early '70s. Anyone facing them has an uphill battle.

I can't remember the last time I watched that network.

I actually don't have a problem with subsidizing channels over ala carte. Its probably cheaper overall and it gives me great variety. The problem is that people start to get greedy and charge ridiculous amounts of money. Not to mention, they're charging more for ******** information and programming.

I'm now perfectly happy watching OTA + Netflix + Amazon prime. I'd rather go to a bar to watch pats game or online.

ESPN is like McDonalds. It got huge because, at its onset, it was a high quality product that was a hit with everyone who tried it. Then it got too big, too spread out, too all encompassing. Now it's good late at night when you're drunk and everything else is closed, but if you're actually looking for a quality burger you're better off somewhere else.

LeBron getting the ESPY for "best championship performance" is flat-out ridiculous. He didn't even win.

Brady led the greatest comeback in Super Bowl HISTORY. Down 24-14. Ten and a half minutes to play. Facing 3rd and 14.

True greatness emerged on the biggest stage of all.

Once again a scientist lets facts obscure "feelings"

Apparently ESPN can get famous transvestites and champions that actually lost, for less money than they can sports events, so that might be the wave of the future.

ESPN -> sports
as
MTV -> music

I watch games that interest me ... that's it ... never any of their shows - they're getting to be like TMZ.
