Since 4PM today is the deadline to reach a long-term deal with a franchise-tagged player like Stephen Gostkowski thought it would be a good idea to compile my tweets on the subject.
Stephen Gostkowski's tag number equals $4.59m
$4.44m (120% of 2014 $3.7m cap no)
+ 100K offseason workout bonus
+ 50K Pro Bowl bonus
Source-CBA, Article 10, Section 11
The $4.459 cap number is the second-highest ever for a kicker.
He signed the tender in March guaranteeing his salary. It is very likely that Gostkowski did enough to already earn the $100,000 offseason workout bonus.
If he plays 2015 season tagged, if tagged again Ghost's 2016 cap number may be $5.478m 5.328m salary (120%of $4.44m salary) + 100K offseason+50K Pro Bowl. Lower the 2016 number by $50,000 if Gostkowski does not repeat as a Pro Bowl starter.
Only in Adam's last year with the Patriots (2005) has a kicker taken up a higher percentage of the Patriots salary cap than Gostkowski is taking up now.
As of today 10 kickers will become UFAs after 2015. Gostkowski, Adam, Josh Scobee, Mason Crosby, Phil Dawson, Kai Forbath, Josh Brown, Justin Tucker, Blair Walsh and Zuerlein.
Any extension will lower his 2015 cap number.
The below shows the cap hits for Janikowski, the currently highest paid kicker by APY (Average Per Year) and proposes a long-term deal for Gostkowski.
