For the first time it feels to me like Brady might accept a reduced suspension. Not sure why.

So I’m trying to think how I’d feel about that. This has been my emotional reaction during each phase of this fiasco:

--News breaks after the championship game, flood of articles about how the Pats “have done it again.” For some reason, I remember Jackie MacMullan’s. Even Reiss chimes in somewhat negatively, for him. Feel very depressed that the fun is being sucked out of what should be a great time.

--First Belichick & Brady press conferences don’t help.

--Belichick’s Mona Lisa Vito conference. Feeling better. This is BS!

--Kraft stands up for team. This is really BS! Enough fighting back that I fully am back into enjoying Super Bowl. If anything, adds to it—FU and all.

--Long waiting period for report. Feels less important than before. Thinking that if Reiss’ prediction of a small fine is correct it will tick me off. Want exoneration on this nonsense, and the NFL’s ridiculous handling of it.

--Report released. What?? Feels like Bizarro world…the predictable piling on begins….

--…followed by insane over the top punishment. Black mood. Murderous.

--Wells report context website goes up…this time, the team is fighting back. Still furious, but in a better, us-against-the-world-and-the-world-better-watch-out way.

--Kraft surrenders. Deadening. What’s the point of any of this if even the owner of the team won’t fight?

--Since then, through Brady testifying…more media outlets joining the growing chorus that the Wells report is horribly flawed…the AEI report…and simply time passing…feeling better. Waiting mode, fully expecting no change from the NFL, and Brady taking fight to next level.

--And now, like I said, maybe it’s the reduction of Hardy’s penalty, but a feeling for the first time that Brady might be so sick of the BS that if it’s reduced to 2 he’ll take it so he can move on. Hope I’m wrong. I guess I’m just wondering how the board will feel if he does accept it? As bad as when Kraft caved? Worse? Or are we not even entertaining the possibility that he’ll accept a penalty?

If he accepts any suspension I will be heartbroken.

If the suspension is lifted but he gets fined and he accepts the fine simply because he wants this whole ordeal behind him, then I wouldn't blame him.

This is Tom Brady. Tom Brady, the guy who wont sit out a rep in practice because he fears someone could take his job away.
What could possibly rise to the level of 'sick of this BS' to make him accept sitting out games for something he did not do?
Also, not sure why Brady would think he is 'putting up with BS" when he is just letting his plan of attack play out. I think fans are living and dying on the news cycle of this more than Brady is. I'm sure he is confident that if Goodell chokes on this decision too, he will prevail in court. Why in the world would Tom Fing Brady ever consider anything to be 'too much to go through to win'.

There are things in life worth more than money and expediency. If Brady unilaterally accepts ANY punishment over this farce, even a 1-cent fine, I will be upset. His standing firm is the only hope we have of seeing any sanity brought to the shameful saga exacerbated by the Great Capitulator, Patriots owner PudgeBob Short Pants.

Not going to happen..................
but if it does, I would feel flim flammed.
But Again..
Not gonna happen.

Any penalty that Brady accepts would just fuel the haters with the "See, He's guilty and a cheater" rhetoric....

Only way to prove his innocence and this whole report was a piece of crap is to take it to a real arbitrator and hope the judge isn't a Colt fan

If he is innocent and he certainly knows if he is innocent than anything less than a full acquittal is unacceptable. he has every reason to go all the way with this . he has more money than he could ever use and really he has nothing left to prove on the field. He is the goat. Its all about his honor and I think we all know how he feels about that.

Upset. Disgusted. Shocked that competitor Brady would fold.
A sign that he has lost the competitive drive that made him great. Time for Garapollo :)

Thanks for the chronology. It was painful to read, but it's useful to remember the many twists and turns this absurd saga has taken over the last six months. Most absurd of all is that this is still going on after six months.

None of us can know what Goodell will do, but it's a reasonable assumption that he won't exonerate Brady on the underlying "deflation" charge since to do so will require that he throw Kensil, Vincent, Wells and himself under the bus, as I have said in other threads. It's unfortunate that Goodell is neither smart nor honest enough to take the obvious easy "out" (proposed by Sally Jenkins and re-iterated by others on this site) of finding that there is no way of determining that a "crime" was even committed given the NFL's lax procedures among other reasons, but he's just not going to do that.

So, on the assumption that he reduces Brady's suspension to one or two games, but leaves the basic finding of complicity intact, what will Brady do?

I think that will come down to how Brady, his inner circle of family and friends, Yee and, to a lesser degree, Kessler assess his chances of prevailing in a Court case (I think Kessler's interests and Brady's will not necessarily be 100% in sync, since Kessler is also being paid by the NFLPA, which has a different agenda here. Also, Kessler, like Wells, is a Lawyer who will have dollar signs in his eyes at the prospect of protracted litigation.)

So, how will Brady's family, closest friend and Yee assess his chances of success? If they conclude that it's anything less than 67% (2--1), I think that Brady should probably take the reduced one or two game penalty and move on. Beyond that, I don't know what to say.

Thanks again.

I would be super pissed since I will be in NH visiting family and planned on going to the opener under the pretense that Brady will be under center.

the only thing that would i could (eventually) deal with is if he gets 2 games or less for failing to cooperate only but the NFL makes clear they could find no wrongdoing on his part.

I would rather Brady continued to fight this thing even if it meant he would miss four games. If he lost every battle he would still be able to claim that he was innocent.

I'd be shocked if Brady accepted any punishment. But then, I didn't expect Kraft to fold like an accordion either, but he did.

Normally I don't get worked up about sports figures, but this kid Brady is a very special case, and it has more to do with his remarkable character than his incredible NFL achievements. I can't recall another pro athlete during this time who has handled everything with as much class as Brady.

The fact that the NFL has decided to go after Brady says more about the NYFL's lack of character than anything. They'd rather have Michael Vick or Ray Lewis be the face of the NFL than Tom Brady. That says it all.

It's his decision but I will still feel robbed of our draft picks. I'd love to see Bellichick defy the odds and pull out some wins if Brady sits.
