... defending Tom Brady from the arbitrary justice of Roger Goodell
The “Free Brady” brand was in assorted styles, colors and related condemnations of Goodell, the N.F.L. commissioner, for the four-game suspension of Brady, the Patriots’ quarterback, for what he deemed Brady’s role in the use of deflated footballs in the A.F.C. championship game.

The article basically claims that fans outside Fenway care more about Brady than the Red Sox. But I'm posting it because the writer just assumes Goodell is in the wrong, as per my two quotes above.

speaking of new york, brady should file a lawsuit against these newspapers.

Was listening to WFAN in NY yesterday morning, and the host, Richard Near, pretty much defended Brady as well as anyone here could. He had some pats fans call in for support and fended off the haters. He just kept saying, "what evidence? Read the report."

Good stuff for sports radio anywhere, nevermind NY.

I still await the investigative blockbuster about Goodell and his merry band of ex jets failed employees who are united for one purpose.. stopping a juggernaut they cannot stop on the field, but will try to stop though various nefarious methods.. taking draft picks, suspensions, changing rules etc.

I have come to the simple conclusion that Goodell has two stark choices:

1) Throw Kensil, Wells, Vincent and himself under the bus by doing what virtually every objective observer now says is the right thing and not only exonerate Brady but also, as Sally Jenkins has observed, state that there is no evidence that a "crime" was committed in the first place.

2) Stand behind Wells, his staff and the five million of the owners' money he pissed away on this report.

As I have said in another thread, there is no way that he can do anything but stick to what Kensil, Vincent, Wells et al have perpetrated/fabricated. He'll probably reduce the suspension to a game or two, but leave the basic findings.

Everything else at this point is background noise.

The Hardy reduction puts Gödel in a really bad bind, lmao.

Really, lmao, there's no way Gödel comes out of this looking good. The haters may be happy with him but to everyone else he is going to look every bit as bad as he should look, and that's hilarious imo.

F them too. Besides a select few that voiced their opinions from the very beginning or actually read the Wells report. {We know who they are.} The rest I just see as going against the grain. The cool thing to do so to speak, to get hits and reactions from the haters.

90% of the country is haters.

Goodell wins.

It has to go to a federal court.

Heard Bill Simonson (CBS national overnight) on 98.5 last night while I was driving home. He said Deflategate was the biggest pile of garbage and Goodell has nothing on Brady. Twitter blew up and the haters had their satin panties in a bunch. Was fun to listen to.

I still wonder how much pressure a looming defamation case puts on Goodell to reduce this to 0 games if any. If Goodell thinks that the possibility of a defamation lawsuit against the NFL has a better than average chance of being successful his decision to reduce the suspension seems like the only opportunity to avoid that. He would have to reduce the suspension to 0 games and have Brady sign an agreement of some sort that he would not pursue a defamation case against the NFL. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Joe Bignino on WFAN is pretty fair. He calls it like it is with no Jets bias. Belichick would listen to FAN when he was on Jets during overnight when Bignino would do his show. Bill actually goes on FAN but talks ONLY with JB.

That isn't really a pro Brady article. It's not an anti-Brady article either I guess.

Good to see Simmons out on his own again and not being controlled by Bspn anymore.

It may be 90% of. the hardcore football fans but it isn't anywhere near 90% of the country, and that's what I was referring to. The box Goodell has now found himself in is about overall public perception of Goodell and the NFL. I agree that screwing the Patriots is about Goodell building fan support among NFL fans but if he maintains Brady's suspension as is he is going to put himself in a buzz saw of outrage from women's groups and the advocacy groups against domestic violence. And the irony of the NFL's role in anti domestic violence commercials is going to make matters even worse for him. I didn't think Godell was going to reduce the suspension before this but now I don't think he has any choice. I think it's hilarious that he has managed to put himself in this position and I will be grabbing the popcorn to watch him fend off the outrage headed his way.

Good going Rog, you f.king moron.

BTW, I ran into the guy who actually mows Goodells lawn yesterday and told him I would give him whatever it takes to mow "go f.ck yourself Roger" into his lawn but he didn't want to get fired so it was a no go. Damn shame.

I would have gone with "Integrity?"

You should have just gotten his address.

If Jetdell gets Brady to agree to a 0 game suspension if he signs a non defamation agreement......Kraft should get the Patriot draft picks back...screw the money, let the NFL keep the Mil to go toward the 5 mil they paid for that dumbass piece of crap called the Wells Report...as a matter of fact, If Goodell had any brains, he go after Wells for providing a piece of fiction....

I'm open to being (and indeed hope that I am) wrong on this, but I think that a Brady v. NFL "defamation case" is only "looming" in the minds of folks on this board. And, to the extent that he even thinks it might be looming, I imagine that Goodell would ascribe a low probability to its success. The bar for proving defamation is very high in the case of a public figure. I know that there are people out here who are convinced that the case would be strong, but both sides will have $1,000-per-hour lawyers duking it out and I wouldn't want to bet on the outcome.

I don't really care if Brady can sue for defamation or not as long as he is exonerated of wrong doing in some court of law.
