OT: JPP serious hand injury due to fireworks??

The guy is a moron in so many ways. And he is screwed since the Giants can either withdraw the franchise tender or worse place him on the non-football injury list and he doesn't get paid either way. If they recind the franchise tag, he has at least a shot to get paid this year assuming he can play at all.

There is a really tasteless joke to be made...but I will resist, I'm sure the blanks can be filled
Speaking of jokes in bad taste.... I'm sorry, I just can't resist reposting this image someone made.....

He burned a few fingers pretty good and he will suffer nerve damage for the upcoming season ....

I'm not sure how that affects his position ...

@Miguel can answer this, but I'm not sure that he wouldn't get paid on the NFI list.

We all know how unreliable Mortenson is based on his mishandling of the PSI data--but he's actually reporting that he may not even miss any games. We'll have to see how much the gray area of this story gets cleared up in the next couple/few days.

Either way, Good luck to JPP, as much as we all dislike him as a player.

Reminds me of Cam Newton's car accident this past year. Went from "life-threatening" to "no significant injuries, he'll play this weekend" over the course of a half day.

Likewise, this morning I was hearing that JPP would lose his hand. Then I heard that he had lost a couple fingers, including his thumb. Now I'm hearing that he burned a few fingers, and may have nerve damage in one.

does an lineman even need two hands?

It's a whole lot harder to tackle when you can't grip. Doesn't sound like it'll be an issue here, though.

The Giants can elect not to pay JPP if they put him on the NFI list. JPP can file a grievance, but he is unlikely to win. Most of the time when a player is on the NFI list, teams do pay them. But I cannot see the Giants paying JPP the $14.8 million just to retain his rights to franchise him next year at about $17 million.

Man, the kid had an incredible rookie year and then has completely s.hit the bed the last few seasons due to injuries. And now this.

Yeah, he's been inconsistent for sure, but he still racked up 12.5 sacks last season, so it may not be quite as bad as some would suggest.

He's definitely dropped from his rookie season though, as you mention.

it's very simple with JPP. no tuck and umenyiora means other teams can double team him, which they couldn't/didn't do his rookie season.

Are you sure? My understanding is a player with a franchise tender is a player who is not under a contract so I don't think NFI is an option.

Well definitely not the smartest decision ever.

Rumor is Ted Wells began an investigation. Upon finding the song "Firework" by Katy Perry on Tom Coughlin's cell phone, Wells says it is "more probable than not" that the Giants sabotaged their own player's 4th of July celebration. Troy Vincent bans Coughlin 1 year and takes the team's next two first-round picks.

J/k it's a NY team, he actually just fines them $75k.

Is he switching to receiver?

How would a hand injury end the career of a D lineman?

Defensive lineman use their hands more than a receiver does.. they have to get their hands on the inside of the 300+ lb offensive lineman to control their upper body

He would have to sign his tender first.

"I touched a needle but it turned out to be fireworks. Now my balls are smaller and I'm missing four games"

Won't be surprised if Goodell hand-writes this PSA next year about steroids, deflategate, and this incident.
