If you ever ran into Ray Nitshke you'd drop a nut from fright...stop the revisionist bull

the relevance of this to my post was?

he looks terrifying

a lot of players juice

if they wanted to get rid of it, they could

but they dont want to, so they dont

look at players bodies compared to previous decades.......thats not just better weight training

Weight training and legal supplements are way more advanced than previous decades. Diet has come a long way too. When you have excellent genetics, add weightlifting with all the other new training, diet, protein and such, you have a good formula to build on. Most of these guys have been identified at a young age as having the genetic makeup to at least make a run at football.

Peds are there, but I'm not sure as much you think they are.

I agree. The NFL clearly cares or they wouldn't suspend people. The NBA in comparison, has a joke of a drug testing program and makes little to no effort to bust anybody. If the NFL didn't care they'd be running a similar operation. NBA you get 2 (or maybe 3?) test a year and you usually know when they are. And after you get them out of the way you can juice up as much as you want without getting tested :D

They should make every rookie watch a documentary about Lyle Alzado. Breaks my heart every time I see one.

The new NFL, every time it looks like someone might be trying to get an edge, fan bases across the continent cry bloody murder. It's all you see in forums and under the comments sections of news stories. Of course almost all the comments on the web from Pats fans are simply attempts at pointing out the hypocrisy in some way, despite Pats fans being the only group at this point that should be entitled to make a big deal out of another team's cheating.

This is how the NFL is conditioning people to behave as a fan of the sport - accusations and finger pointing, an asterix for everything.

technically, yes

but do you not think that a huge number of players juice?

i blame the league and the owners for wanting it both ways

do you consider jerry rice a cheater for stickum?....or all the baseball stuff like pine tar, etc

Was BB cheating when they were filming from a location that was technically against the rules?

furthermore, i think the game would get a lot slower and smaller and less exciting if they completely eliminated PEDs........they would look more like regular guys, albeit athletic guys, running around out there
Technically? Jesus stop dancing around the issue. Yes, loads of guys juice. Yes, loads of QBs doctor footballs, Yes, loads of teams, actually all, are still likely recording signals, but now from OK locations. Why, in the face of all of that, does one team get fined 1M, docked a 1 and 4 draft choice and have the best player in the league, a guy who has never been in an ounce of trouble, has been completely honorable his entire career get a 4 game suspension. You know, I know and everyone knows. This effin league can't beat this team on the field and after 15 years, they're sick of it. Ergo, they bone them. It's freaking simple and obvious and anyone who claims otherwise is f###### lying.

i agree

people are looking to bust the patriots for things other people do

all because we are more successful than anyone

comes with the territory

The dark underbelly of Everybody Gets a Trophy... once there's only one trophy, every winner gets an asterisk.

By the way let's put it where it belongs... NFL*

I think many of us here would drop a nut from fright, being fans rather than players. I certainly would if I ran into him now that he's dead, because ghosts are scary.

But in his prime? 6'3", 235... granted, 6'3" and 235 pounds of pure mean... but still. In terms of juicing Ray Nitshke doesn't really make the point... even though he was THE man at the LB position, and considered a big, strong, MLB type, not some nifty little zippy guy. Every guy on the Pats' present depth chart at the MLB position outweighs him (although he was pretty tall for the position, granted), including one guy almost 40 pounds heavier. Our standout MLB of that era, Nick Buoniconti, was 5'11 and 22o, to provide some idea of whether Nitshke was "big" for his time or just mean. He was both. We've got linebackers now bigger than some linemen at the time.

Back in the day, a Nitshke-sized guy was just a big scary guy, not a physical anomaly... those guys just fell toward the end of a normal bell curve back then. Today the physical freaks are off the curve that existed in Nitshke's time, be it a matter of speed, leaping ability, size, strength, whatever.

However we should also add...

It's not all juicing either. People know now what the payoff can be if they make the NFL. Those who don't juice treat football as their business (and in college and high-school, their "real" education.) Nitshke used to smoke and drink a considerable amount ;)... I know you hear about today's guys partying too & using other drugs, but you never read in the paper that so-and-so was playing with a terrible hangover, or whatever. It's more "off-season" troubles, usually. Training, diet, and everyday lifestyle has changed over the generations and the point of the spear... more accurately, the air in front of the point of the spear... is the sports nutrition/medicine world.

A lot of players do whatever they can to either make the 53 man roster, make that big contract, justify being paid that big contract or keeping that edge while getting older. It also depends on what position you play whether it's strength, speed, awareness, concentration. Many stay above the testing curve with either having a general idea when a test may come...or knowing what is being tested. Every player decides what is right for them...nobody puts a gun to their heads.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/07/07/shannon-sharpe-antonio-gates-cheated-the-game/

So is Sharpe saying we should believe he never took anything ? That he was born to look like that ? Please...

What does Shannon have to say about the salary cap and how it should not be circumvented to gain a competitive advantage? All of Mr. Sharpe's talk leads me to believe that he would find any Super Bowls won by a team cheating the salary cap invalid. He'd certainly question those championships, right?

Now I know this isn't something as important as an equipment violation (and by "equipment violation" I mean "equipment obeying the laws of physics") but I thought it was worth mentioning Antonio Gates got 4 games for performance enhancing substances.

Did he get suspended for PED's or for not turning over his phone?

Poor Shannon, trying to stay relevant after CBS got rid of him. I wonder how many Bronco teammates were taking PED's back in the day?

With all the suspensions for PEDs, why are there no suspensions for the others on the team that more probably then not were generally aware that their teammates were taking PEDs.

havent seen anyone bash gates for cheating
time to question this guys HOF credentials.

cheater!!

Shannon Sharpe did yesterday. Of course, Shannon Sharpe thinks Ghandi was guilty of violent war crimes.
