http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...ms-nfl-for-letting-c-j-spillman-play-in-2014/

“[T]he NFL appeared to do nothing and never informed me that they would take any action or impose any discipline at all against Mr. Spillman,” Allred said. “I am very happy that the criminal justice system will now try to move forward to prosecute Mr. Spillman but it is shameful that the NFL has taken no meaningful action in the interim."

More of the same.

But it doesn't really matter to the NFL. It has nothing to do w Brady or Belichick. Even Gost gets off with nothing even though he also refused to hand over his phone in the exact same inquiry as TB...

I have no idea how these things happen : it must be that the Patriots are so reviled by everyone else who follows the league that the league office can do anything it wants to and everyone cheers.

I don't have to try it to tell you that dog **** tastes bad

Typical...John Clayton was on yesterday, saying Brandon Spikes will get a hefty suspension -- maybe even four or five games. But, added, it's really impossible to predict what the NFL is going to do.

Make it up as they go along. When people say "But, the NFLPA agreed to give the commissioner that power in the CBA, so, they can't complain!". Well, the NFL has to use that power responsibly. That's what the NFLPA agreed to. They certainly didn't agree the NFL could do whatever they wanted, with no consistency or rhyme or reason.

"I am in blood. Stepped in so far that, should I wade no more, returning were as tedious as go o'er."

Macbeth, or Roger G?

Neither wants to turn around, or take even one step to the right or to the left.

I don't think Goodell has much/any integrity, but Gloria Allred *****ing because Goodell didn't block an unarrested man from playing football isn't ever going to move the dial for me.

This is one scumbag calling out another scumbag for not actually being a scumbag on one occasion.

I know it's Clayton flapping his gums but for Spikes to get a 4 game suspension for leaving the scene of an accident is just plain crazy logic.

Did I miss something here? Wouldn't Spikes need to be an NFL player to get a suspension?

Hasn't this been is modus operandi? The NFL reaction to things is in proportion to the visibly of the event. Justice is a screaming mob.

NFL PR Dept. Slogan..."If if ain't in the press, we don't deal with the mess."

You hit the nail on the head my friend! You deserve more than winners badge.

If Spillman had been a star, the league would have been forced to deal with the situation.

That really ticks me off! And it's probably true too!

I'm reading some of the comments about Gloria Allred. They're all negative comments. Does anyone know more about this person?

Its too bad but it's accurate. If issues and circumstances do not drive/impact the league's brand, revenue stream, political or social agenda they leave them alone.

I think when you start punishing players who aren't charged with anything you set a bad precedent. Do your own research and if you think your guy did it then cut him and be done with it. But the NFL shouldn't punish anyone who isn't charged with a crime. Although I think the Ray Rice issues is a different situation in which we have clear evidence of abuse even without charges against him.

I've got to disagree with that. They had plenty of time to see what a dolt he was. If you're going to say so did Kraft, I can't argue, though I think the knives are out for football Caesar.

Yes, that's a team issue.

The NFL shouldn't punish anyone who isn't found guilty of an NFL-oriented misdeed (deflate football = NFL penalty, deflate girlfriend = None of NFL's business.)

When you start allowing for exceptions to rules, the exceptions often start subsuming the rules.

Remember Mike Cloud? Remember Brian Tymes? There were suspended while not signed and later signed with the Patriots.

I don't recall these abuses of power being too common prior to the signing of the 2011 CBA. I think it's safe to say if the CBA were under negotation now, the NFLPA wouldn't be so willing to accept the commissioner having absolute authority.

Someone needs to inform Goodell that integrity begins in childhood ...
called telling the truth and it develops into other areas from there and also includes honor and leadership at some point. Brady has way more integrity - honor and leadership than Goodell could ever hope to have.
