... Flowers was facing the top tackles in the SEC week in and week out, many of who were drafted or will be drafted, and still put up silly numbers. He fell in the draft because he doesn’t fit the mold of an explosive edge rusher, but he still belongs in the conversation with the guys that do fit that mold.

At the combine, Flowers only ran a 4.93 40 yard dash at 6-foot-2, 266 pounds. His strength and length are what really set the Arkansas edge defender apart as he utilizes both as well as anyone in the class. He was second in the nation last year with a run stop percentage of 12.1.
Roberts whose pro day was as impressive as any of the top corners in this class. Usually that means the tape wasn’t all that impressive, but Roberts had the third best grade of any corner outside of the Power 5.

The Marshall corner only had one interception on the season, but he broke up seven additional passes and had a 67.1 quarterback rating against. We thought he could go as early as the second round given his abilities. Roberts may not be the most talented player on this list, but to nab him in the seventh round is absurd.

This could be a great draft class. I actually believe there is strong potential for Brown, Richards, Flowers, Jackson, Mason, and Roberts to develop into starting caliber players in the NFL.

Grissom and Wells I'm not as high on but the have upside.

Cardona will be the best LS in the NFL by the end of the season.

Don't really trust PFF, but I'll take anything football related, specially if it is a positive view on something about the Pats.

Really looking forward to see Roberts, we will need every CB help we can get. Great draft class IMO, except for the Richards pick.

I'm always skeptical of late-round CBs who are billed as being instant contributors, but if there was ever a time that I'd love for it to happen, it's now. And if there was ever a secondary where it could reasonably happen (since 2011, anyway), it might be this one.

Flowers, OTOH, seems very plausible to me. He won't be asked to do a ton this year, but Ninkovich isn't getting any younger, and you always want at least one more DE than you need, given their tendency to get hurt. All he has to be is an adequate 4th DE behind Nink, Jones and Sheard, and I could definitely see him filling that role nicely and growing into more down the line.

Sometimes the measurables don't tell the whole story. The 5-11 255 pound Elvis Dumerville was able to consistently get to the QB, why not Flowers?

If these players hit, the next time Goodell tries to impose parity, Goodell will let the Pats keep their 1st rounder with the stipulation that they are not allowed to trade it, and instead confiscate picks 2 - 7 since BB is too good at coaching players up and finding late round gems.

What can a LS do to make it to the HOF?

Flowers is a great pick. I also like the Grissom pick and see a lot of potential there too

I do not disagree, but will wait until this team is formalized to see how well we did.. sometimes these stats seem to be a little made up, contrived?? WTF is a run stop percentage??

I like PFF but sometimes they come up with some weird stuff..

No kidding. What does 12.1 mean? Does that mean he stops the run 12.1% of the time? I guess it's good but with PFF I really don't have a lot of confidence in their analysis.

I sure hope Flowers will prove to be a steal, but right now he's very similar to what Jake Bequette was at this stage : both went to Arkansas, started for 4 years, but Bequette ran the 40 yard faster and had more sacks than Flowers. Flowers had more tackles for loss and more pass defended than Bequette, which means he can be disruptive in other ways than just QB sacks.

Roberts made me scratch my head when looking at his combine numbers.. he rated excellent in just about every single drill so he has all the physical tools to play CB in the NFL...

CB is more about physical talent and technique than anything else... typically those cb's that have height, run a 4.4 and have good agility and vertical go pretty high and the guys that don't have as much athleticism or would be used more in a zone scheme go later.

You can't teach the physical attributes, but you can teach technique. I'm interested to see what becomes of Roberts.. we certainly didn't invest a lot in him so any contributions he makes is a bonus in the 7th

I'm hoping he turns out better than the last Arkansas DE we drafted who despite lacking elite physical skills put up great stats against elite SEC competition.

Maybe Flowers will also have a few less damning pics of Belichick with farm animals if he sucks as well.

I love threads about football.

It's as if Belichick perennially trades a 2nd round reach for 2 steals later in the draft.

Aye. Imagine if he hit on more of those second round picks while still securing steals later on in the draft...
