Patriots DB's Still Working Out With Revis in Arizona

I wanted him back but once Woody tampered it was a done deal. I can understand why any player would want to go back to play in NYC , but it's hard to understand why a competitor would want to play for an organization like the jets. I have no problem with Patriot DB's training with him, as he is a really hard worker and it will really push them and help them understand what it takes to be great.

I do think it's comical that the only Championship ring he will be wearing when he retires is from his one year in NE.
Revis strikes me as a bright individual. He also knows what to say and who to say it to. Everything he does is calculated. He did what he did and truthfully, I'm thankful he was a component that helped New England bring #4 home however, you're right. His heart is in New York and that's fine but spare me the ********. As for the Pats DBs, anything that improves their performance should be encouraged. Training with Revis, if only for the development of positive habits is something they should do more of.

Love me some Revis. Words are weak. He came in, shut up, and played. I will miss him when the DBs are getting burned this year. Hope there is a way these guys improve - working with Revis won't hurt (won't help enough, I fear).

I have no problem with Revis the footballer. He's one of the finest CBs we're likely to see. This doesn't change my opinion on Revis the businessman but for the meantime, anything that helps the team is fine by me.

One possibility is that he strongly sensed the erosion of his abilities last year, and saw this as the one last contract he'd get, and just went for the money, now that he has a ring.

I think the Jets are really going to regret this contract. And I will weep for them.

Logan Ryan during his first 2 seasons -

Targeted – 105
Receptions allowed – 55
Completion % against -52.3%
Yards allowed – 784
TDs allowed – 5
Interceptions – 7
Pass defends – 16
QB rating against – 62.94

Revis had a 67.9 QB rating against last season. I am not saying Ryan is better, or even potentially as good, all I am saying is the kid works hard, trains hard, and when he has the opportunity he is a pretty good player. Ryan as a rookie allowed a 49.8 QB rating against, he struggled some as the #4 or #5 CB in a man press scheme but I think he will surprise you and a lot of other people this seasons.

B6 love your optimism on Ryan but he made a no-name WR look like vintageT.O. in the SB. I think Ryan is nothing more than a Nickel Back who has already reached his ceiling. IF Ryan is Starting for us *and gee I hope not*...we are in trouble.

He's still dominant against bigger receivers, the job he did on Calvin Johnson last season was ridiculous, but the smaller quicker receivers showed some signs of getting the best of him, just as they did Talib when he was in NE. Revis is still going to be elite for another year or two and even after that he will most likely remain one of the bet defensive backs in football, but that deal doesn't make that much sense for the Jets because they aren't a Super Bowl contender. I don't believe the Patriots had any chance at all to re sign Revis because Johnson would have just kept upping the offer until the Patriots were out, but a big deal like that would have made much more sense for them or another top contender than it would any team not in the running.

It won't get them a ring but I don't think the Jets will regret it unless he blows the knee out again, which is always the chance any team takes on a front loaded mega deal.

PLayers don't take it like we do..they will always be buddies ect

Sometimes it's easy to forget that these guys are former coworkers and friendly acquaintances/friends in many cases. Also that they don't care half as much about these regional rivalries as the fans do, for the most part.

Makes sense, I'm still on good terms with most of the people who work at my previous place of employment. If my old company and my new company both had rabid fanbases that hated each other, I don't think that would really change anything.

I thought that was mostly Arrington who was getting abused in the SB?

Ryan did have one atrocious play in the SB (the TD that he gave up at the end of the first half), but I think you're confusing him with Arrington for the most part.

I'm not super high on Ryan: I think his ceiling is lower tier CB2/good CB3, with a ballhawk style that gives him a lot of potential to make both good and bad game-changing plays. But with Arrington gone, that does finally open up the role where I could see him maybe exceeding those expectations. Defending slot receivers is where his strengths are best put on display, and where his biggest weakness (straight-line speed) is least exposed. I'd definitely like to see him get an extended look in that role before I judge him too harshly.

Not nefenecessarily that he felt that he declined last year. But he is smart and must understand that at his age this is most likely his last big contract no matter how he felt last year.

I'm the same age as Revis, and turning 30 does weird things to you. Kinda forces you to take an introspective look as far as your career goes; even though the end of the line is far off, you can't help but consider it. I assume that's far more pronounced for professional athletes, given how short their career lifespans are. I agree that Revis is a smart guy, and probably realizes that this was his best shot at one more huge contract. But this is also just a continuation of his career-long MO. He adamantly believes in making every cent possible, and the Jets were offering more guaranteed money. I don't like that he left and don't agree with his decision, but can't really fault him for it. He already added a SB to his resume, and that's the main hurdle. As long as you have one ring, even someone like Peyton Manning can point to it against his numerous postseason failures.

Quit playing games with my heart, Revis. I'm not supposed to like you anymore.

I never liked him. He's called Mevis for a reason.

I'll miss him. He did a fantastic job for most of the regular season and playoff run (He had bad games against the Packers and Ravens). He shut down Moncrief in the AFC championship game and the only catch in the super bowl against him he got picked by a ref. He's not the player he was a few years ago, but he remains an elite corner and I'd be ecstatic if he was still here.

I wish a winning organization and the opportunity to chase titles mattered more to him then the money. Oh well!

IMO he's still every bit the player he was outside of his one absolutely ridiculous season, 2009 I think. Still the best in the league and will be discussed as best ever for years to come.

Nearly as athletic as Prime Time and a thousand times more physical, the most technical corner of all time.

I wish he was still here, but he's not, and that is what it is.

NYJ fans are going apeshit over this, btw.
