OK, so I'm gonna roll out some boycott spamming this week leading up to the holiday weekend, and I could use some help.

I picked 7 targets, and so as not to spam ppl, I'll do 1 per day on twitter, starting monday, but double up a couple days.
Anheuser-busch
Pepsi
Frito-lay
Gatorade + dannon
Papa john's + McDonald's

Probably in something of that order with a simple thread like this for forums.

-----------------------------

I have some great memories of the Celtics in the 80s. I remember Bird shooting with a broken finger, McHale playing on a broken foot, and Chief returning to a game after not just one, but two sprained ankles.
Hopefully, my memory never gets so bad as to rob me of Johnny Most's (RIP) call when Bird stole the ball.....

There have been various rumors of Brady playing through his own injuries, and while we might never find out the details on that, we do know he just gave us the two most clutch performances in NFL playoff history -- great games that we might still be talking about years from now.
In fact, Boston has given us a lot of great teams to root for, great guys, great games, and great memories.

Unfortunately, there are certain people who like to make a habit of pissing on our teams, our guys and our fan base. As fans, we might not have the power to do much about that, but I know I have the power to decide who I give my money to.

These guys, our guys, bust their ass so I can go to work the next day feeling good that my team won, and right now one of them could use a little support -- I don't think switching up a couple brands will be tough for me to do.
At least I know I won't be doing it on a broken foot.

This Independence Day weekend, think about who it is you really support.

The following are in twitter format so I can copy them over there -- probably one each day.
And please don't read this as some pushy boycott activist thing -- I just want to do my job and put the info out there.
Who everybody gives their money to is their own business.

@anheuserbusch (bud, rolling rock, michelob) supports @nfl, DO YOU?
#freebrady this independence day with micros

@pepsi (mt dew, aquafina, amp) supports @nfl, DO YOU?
#freebrady this independence day with Dr Pep, RC, crush, 7up, storebrand

@fritolay (doritos, tostitos, lay's, etc) supports @nfl, DO YOU?
#freebrady this independence day with..idk, Pringles, veggies?

@gatorade (propel) supports @nfl -- DO YOU?
#freebrady this independence day with POWERADE !!

@dannon (oikos) supports @nfl -- DO YOU?
#freebrady this independence day with chobani, ***e, yoplait, stonyfield !!

@papajohns supports @nfl -- DO YOU?
#freebrady this independence day with papa gino's, domino's, or your local pizza joint !!

@mcdonalds supports @nfl -- DO YOU?
#freebrady this independence day with anything else.....I mean, really, anything.....

OK, maybe here's a better idea - let's just all complain on a message board

I won't ask anybody to sacrifice that

These are all vile products that I've been boycotting for years anyway.

People who regularly consume this stuff will probably die in their 50's anyway.

I might be naive, but one thing I didn't know is how much Pepsi owns and how much they dominate the markets and NFL ads.
A lot of that stuff is actually pepsi, including tropicana, which I didn't bother with

Um.... I'm in pretty good shape at 60, and I still buy Fritos and eat 2-3 times a week and McDonalds.

It isn't the food that's the problem. It's that lack of exercise afterward that does you in.

Not sure whether I'm impressed or disgusted. Maybe little of both.

Roger goodell and his bank acct are very appreciative

I have been boycotting any NFL merchandise and plan on continuing that for good. With sincere apologies to Ian who has the Patriots Pro Shop as an advertising client, I would like to see all Patriot fans boycott all NFL sponsored merchandise from here on out. Anything we boycott will purely be symbolic because none of the sponsors we boycott will ever feel any real economic pain from it, so a focus on Patriots gear would probably make the most obvious protest imo.

Bump

OK it's probably finished.

I got a statement in there with all the twitter messages.
I'm not on myface, so not much I can do on that end.

@eom I applaud your vision and ambitiousness. I too have been thinking of launching some boycott of sorts. But right now, I feel it's more important to build a base of support, and quite frankly, people are more likely to rally around a petition.

Every signature we collect is a potential participant that we can contact. And I think there's a benefit to drawing as many people as possible, by encouraging the signing of the petition.

If we can gain gather large numbers of people, generate publicity, and encourage widespread interest, then a boycott becomes more feasible. Until then, I say give it some time and wait. We can always use someone to collaborate with ;)

Also, it's VERY important to know that twitter restricts spamming. I spent two full days tweeting to over 1,500 accounts, only to find out that none of those messages went through. Every time you post a recurring message on twitter, it triggers an automatic block, that prevents the tweet from getting through.

Also, Twitter says you can only send out 1,000 tweets per day. You cannot post more than a certain number of times per hour, or you will get blocked.

I really don't worry about what other people do, or try to get them to do this or that.

I'm actually a big fan of belichick's adage about just doing your job.

Following the shoe or the gourd isn't really productive

Ohhh...that's def a bro tip, right there

I'll have to stay on top of that

Hey, could you maybe do me a little favor?

Could you start a thread on the Boston.com patriots forum and just copy/paste that stuff I have between the lines ------ ?

I can't paste stuff there from my phone :(
I would appreciate it

Well, as I said, it's not so much WHAT you eat, as it is remaining active. As an example, most of the time when I hit up the Golden Arches, I buy a large black coffee, a side salad with ranch dressing, and a 4-piece order of their chicken nuggets. I cut them up and put them on the sald. Total cost to me is around $3. Filling meal and then I walk across the parking lot and do some mall-walking when the weather is bad, or outdoors when it's nice. I also have free weights and yoga to help out.

Thing is, as much as people complain about kids being obese, it also comes back to a lack of exercise. When I was in school, we ate as much, if not more, "junk" food as kids today. We ate ice cream made with whole milk, drank whole milk, bought sodas and popcorn and candy bars, etc. BUT, we were outside every day. We rode our bikes or walked where we needed to go. We played little league, and Pee Wee football, basketball on Tuesday and Thursday nights, went swimming etc. Why? because we didn't have computers, video games, cable TV, iPads, iPhones, etc. We weren't iDiots. :)

Kids today have had PE and recess cut back to almost nothing. They aren't forced to play outside or get off their butts and DO something.
But I digress.

McDonalds isn't the problem. Never has been. It's the sedentary lifestyle that is causing obesity. Deal with THAT and the other issues take care of themselves.

Respects,

I'm just buying the knockoff stuff. Gets me the gear I want, and keeps money outta the hands of those we don't want it to go to.

A waste of time. You wanna hurt em' ?, stop watching football. And stop buying Jerseys, hats...etc. Meanwhile enjoy your Fritos with a nice cold Bud light . Cuz everyone else will.
