Just when I thought I'd heard it all...

Whitlock is correct. President Obama has taken a particular interest in the NFL and its attitude toward race, both regarding the Redskins name and the NFL's pattern of punishment focused on the misdeeds of African American players. His concerns were made clear to Goodell last year. Josh Earnest, the President's press secretary, mocked Brady from the beginning of DFG, exposing the political underpinnings of this scandal. Brady is being sacrificed on a political altar. Wells wielded the knife. Note also that Brady has political aspirations and Kraft is a supporter of Netanyahu. Whitlock is very astute in these matters.
A few things here, perhaps you might address:

* Not saying it didn't happen, but I haven't seen or heard of Obama addressing NFL matters specifically, let alone address them to Goodell directly. Do you have links?
* Roughly two-thirds of the league's players are black, so it makes sense that most of the punishments fall on black players.
* Could Earnest's mockery have been symptomatic of the league office out to get the Patriots vs. being racially/politically motivated?

I've never seen Whitlock described as astute. He's just a reverse racist who enjoys stirring the pot.

Did you guys see that big long article about Whitlock getting kicked off undefeated, or wtf it's called?

Think it was on deadspin

All of us, including me because I used to do it, need to stop speculating about Brady's political aspirations unless we're referring to local possibilities. Outside of the 5 actual NE states (CT doesn't count), he's largely reviled. He'd lose to an ISIS candidate.
Brady has made it pretty clear that he's neither a Republican not a Democrat.
He's a Metro-crat.

Wow, amazing that this has gotten linked back to the President. This forum can be as creative and paranoid as any on the internet, I suppose.

As the OP, I just want to say that I certainly didn't intend to spark anything of that nature.

And, given that my son was White House staff working for President Obama, the irony here is rich. I can also say with certainty that deflategate would never rise to the level of anything he'd want to influence. It might be identified by his writers as a source for some humor to be thrown into a speech, but that's it.

The one time I met with him in the Oval, when my son was leaving government service, he'd had a day with:
  • A crisis with North Korea
  • Putin threatening to bring nukes into the Ukraine situation
  • Multiple deadly attacks in Iraq against military and democracy targets
  • One of the normal days with Congress
And yet at 4:00 that afternoon, he greeted us all cordially and with a degree of personal knowledge about my son and our family that was beyond remarkable.

That's why those guys age 20 yrs in office

Michael Smith from that show His and Hers was on mike and mike and they were talking about the appeal. Smith doesn't agree with the NFL but did mention the look it would have if Goodell went easy on a white player. i think it's stupid that race is brought into this but I've been told by a black person I know that some people see the pats as a white team because of all the white stars. I know it's ridiculous but in some crazy corners people see this kind stuff

So it's a bad thing that the Pats are perceived as a white team?
So glad we entered a post-racial society last decade.

The offensive juggernaut of Brady-Gronk-Edelman must be what gives this impression. And after 200 years of slavery, 100 years of Jim Crow, and only a few decades of significant effort to make change, it'll take a while before the symbolism calms down.

In this case, it really is misleading, at least IMHO.

How odd that is. When I watch sports, I don't even notice the race of players.

I am dead serious.

If there is any racial component at all in this case, America is in big trouble. Last time I checked air was colorless? Strange times indeed....

Nonsense. How important were the Games to Caesar?

I watch PTI most every night - except when Jason Whitlock is on. In those cases, I just delete the recording.

One of the best things ESPN ever did was to ban Jason Whitlock from their network for a few years. Unfortunately, they decided to bring him back.

Wouldn't your personal experience make you biased?

The subject of race has been brought into the Brady discussion so far by two national black mediots. Not just by posters here. My guess is that both of them have some idea of what's going on with blacks.

Then there's the fact that Brady was mocked by Obama's press secretary and then skipped the visit after they won. That tells me that something is going on there.

I wish it were true that this country is becoming the melting pot that we heard about in the 50's, but it seems like we're more segregated now than ever. The race-baiting is winning.

Strange? With the amount of outright racism being expressed (this time by Whitlock and Smith concerning Brady) it's no wonder we're where we are now.

Oh, no doubt. And I'm certainly not disputing the fact that race is being read into the situation, nor the reason it is happening. I'm just in doubt that Goodell, his employees who are former Jets, and the Colts, set this up and executed it because Brady is white and they need a white head on a pole. And I'm seriously doubting that this would get any attention inside the White House other than as a bad attempt at humor.

I don't believe it was set up because Brady's white, but I do believe that it's possible that there's pressure being put on Goodell by blacks to punish Brady, especially since we're hearing it from multiple black sources now. I don't understand why anyone would doubt the possibility.

It's very interesting the way people want to make some things that aren't racial into a racial issue, like Skippy Gates and the police officer trying to help him a few years ago. But now we can't bring race into this discussion because it isn't relevant, even though we're being told that it is.

I also believe that (after the fact) Obama could be adding his two cents to the situation. He has done so in the past on race issues. I guess I don't have the same faith in him as you do.

I don't think Brady was the target I think they believe the hoody controls everything and were hoping they could knock him out of the league, unfortunately for them the Patriots weren't engaged in any wrongdoing so they had to make sh.t up as they went.

Can run either :)
