OH Boy - NFL Looking for New Investigator

Well the only aspect of Deflategate that the NFL* hasn't investigated is league misconduct itself.

And the league wouldn't be hiring anyone to investigate that.

We are working on that. ;)

If this whole saga has made one thing clear, it's that the NFL can't keep using Ted Wells. His credibility is shot.

What I don't understand, though, is how this would in any way address the concern that these "independent" investigations are anything but. If anything, I would prefer that the NFL employ someone to conduct investigations. That would at least be an honest representation of the dynamics at play, instead of the league hiring some outsider and claiming they're independent when it's obvious that that's not the case.

This guy would fit

There is only one man for the job: Ignatius J. Reilly.

The job description reminds me of another question/concern. Why do NFL players and personnel seem to use the same phone for work and personal communications? Given that the work phones are essentially public access, given how leaky the NFL administration is, why would these organizations choose such a practice?

Wouldn't SOMEONE in Brady's agent's office said to him, "Tom, unless you want your text and email conversations with Giselle to show up in a tabloid, have a different phone for personal communications."
That's not just a question for the NFL. The whole BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) fad is a bad idea, fed by employers who cut costs by letting employees use personal devices for work, and employees who want the convenience of carrying just one phone not two. This topic is exactly why it's a bad idea, but convenience and profit combine to trump good sense.

Those people are already on Hillary Clinton's campaign payroll.
Not just Hillary's. But it turns out that deleting evidence to cover up a crime is itself a crime. Give them enough rope and they'll hang themselves.

New investigator for the next "Gate" hit job against us? Should happen come playoff time.

Maybe the league is looking for someone who can delete emails, texts and hard drives and leave no trace, while also making it look like an accident.
Guys who leaked stuff to reporters from the NFL offices might be looking for that, and hoping this position posting doesn't mean the league will be looking at the insider threat seriously.

Seems they've figured out that tweets and selfies and social media posts and emails are important in pretty much all incidents these days. Might even be planning to review staff email activity to see who spilled the beans to the press on stuff that turned into an embarrassment.

100x more outrage on Brady not turning over his phone than a politician, too funny.

As others have mentioned, being a Jets fan is the #1 requirement for this job. A candidate may be completely unskilled otherwise, but if they root for the Jets, they're beating out qualified candidates.

We've seen this before from Goodell. In 2008, he created the position of director of strategic security, whose role would be to oversee everything from pregame security screenings to possible signal stealing. It got fanfare when it was announced, but has anyone heard of anything this person/department has done in the last 7 years?

Man I am applying. I was built for this job.

Is this is a new position within the NFL (not a back-fill)? If it is a brand new position this is interesting given the deflategate hearing happened less than a week ago.
After the Brady hearing I assume Rodger's legal team gave him a briefing that included worst case scenarios: What options does Brady have to get this case into federal court, what are the chances of success for Brady on these options, what would be the ramifications/exposure for him and the league office if Brady wins on the various options.
On a side note: I'd be curios to know if his legal team pointed out the various potentials for 'Bad Faith'? Could his own public statements demonstrate bias? Could this legally be considered 'Bad Faith' to demonstrate bias against Brady only to then say, in effect, I am not biased and I will hear your "appeal"?

So how does Goodell avoid getting into Deflategate and Ray Rice entanglements in the future? Easy, he needs layers on his org chart. He needs the Vincent's, this new 'investigatory' position, maybe eventually a drug enforcement manager. He needs others to decide/execute/be the face of these individual league affairs (can a 'League Press Secretary' be too far off?) . Sure, Rodger will remain the puppet master behind the scenes but to the media/outside world he will only be seen/heard when a proceeding has been vetted as fully plausible, has been run by PR and legal, is carefully crafted, it is the right timing -- the top dog will only bark when he has a lot of insulation in place to repel any blowback. Bottom line, he now will appear to truly be the guy that can hear appeals without bias because he was never involved with the proceedings. 'Layer X' ran the show -- he is now hear to make sure it was "fair". And if there is blowback (think Ray Rice), he has a built in scapegoat/fall guy.

This job descriptions should read: Needed, a managerial layer to insulate the commissioner, keep his hands from looking dirty, help consolidate his power, take the fall when things go south.

When this goes to federal court it will be a shipwreck for Goodell.

The four game suspension will be crucified based on the lack of cooperation. Basically he has no evidence of Brady being aware of anything thanks to ****head Wells "more probable than not" spoof. So if the 4 games is based on non cooperation for the phone, the lawyers will ask why Favre was only fined 50000 dollars?

"Let's see. Attach resume. Attach cover letter. Attach references. Hit send. That oughtta do it. Sweet. Now I get to investigate my self. At $5 million a report, I'll be able to buy the NFL in about ten months."

Chris Mad Dog Russo - he doesn't need to know what he is investigating ... reports will be quick and cheap.

Mike Felger - no explanation needed - if being a douchebag is a qualification - there's no bigger than Felger.
