the press will play the card of it was a single reporter that started this mess and we did our job to follow up on it

not our fault....

That's not the crux of the argument. More why was a faulty letter sent to the team. Remember, the whole entire world including the Patriots thought the balls were 2+ psi low. It is a separate issue from Morts report. All the way until the Wells report was published the team was on the ropes thinking someone had done something. Brady's "I don't think I'm a cheater" comment was due to the NFLs memo, not Mortenson.

the faulty letter was a attempt to get the Pats to quickly admit they did something wrong so the NFL could justify a punishment.

such a shame

Whitlock is correct. President Obama has taken a particular interest in the NFL and its attitude toward race, both regarding the Redskins name and the NFL's pattern of punishment focused on the misdeeds of African American players. His concerns were made clear to Goodell last year. Josh Earnest, the President's press secretary, mocked Brady from the beginning of DFG, exposing the political underpinnings of this scandal. Brady is being sacrificed on a political altar. Wells wielded the knife. Note also that Brady has political aspirations and Kraft is a supporter of Netanyahu. Whitlock is very astute in these matters.

That makes a lot of sense. The Obama press secretary getting involved publicly should have been an alert.

People can criticize Whitlock all they want, but I'm sure he has his finger on the pulse of black America.

This also has me thinking back to the ridiculous punishment that was handed out to Incognito.

Maybe he is right, Favre got a small fine for his penis pix.. imagine if a well endowed man did that??

Favre did not even have to turn over his cell phone.. so the chief rumpswab at 345 Madison Ave. had to come down hard..

It's a great business model for people (and networks) who hold this point of view. Talk about it, ensure it stays an issue, and for the love of god make sure it is not resolved...in the meantime...$$$$$

And ESPN is just the network that puts this garbage on the air, says "hey, wait a minute, I think this is the issue, never thought of it that way", and then proceed to carpet bomb Americans every time they turn on the tv with this new controversial (read: better ratings / read: $$$$) point of view.. Say it loud and say it often, that makes it true right. Stephen A built a career on this...

Left Urlacher looking for his cleats in that Chicago game. He got jukes!
Defending Urlacher is not my specialty but here it goes. 99.998% of the time the QB slides there. Only an asshat hits him. Urlacher is not an asshat. After the game Brady apologized for not sliding.

This is starting to remind me of a Tom Wolfe novel...

Eh, wouldn't put it past a certain knucklehead commissioner...

I don't think it's true but its a helluva theory.

The African American fan base is a very large demographic.

It's tragic that the African American players are getting in trouble but you do have to wonder. One white player is suspended for bullying and the other for footballs.

...and you have a WASPy commissioner in charge.

After the game Brady apologized for not sliding.
Link? I remember Brady joking about it afterwards, but never heard a whisper of an apology. Without a credible link, I don't buy it.

So this is the 21 century version of "To Kill a Mockingbird" with Kessler as Atticus Finch?

I don't remember TB12 apologizing for not sliding. He needed to make the 1st down the juking Urlacher was absolutely necessary.

I'm not sure that taking every event that ever occurs and claiming it is about race can be considered astute.

For those who did not know, Ted Wells is African American.

Part of me does wonder if the league chose Ted Wells to investigate the Incognito and Brady issues because of his ethnic background? I.E show the African Amercian fan base and the current administration that the NFL is not all about a bunch of rich white guys. Would we really put it past the league not to incorporate some kind of cosmetically visible and demonstrable showing of race equality? I'm sorry but I don't.

If I am even a little right, I am sick to my stomach.
