Official Brady Appeal Thread: D-Day Tuesday June 23rd

If Brady is innocent but wimps out from seeing this through, what does that make him? Bob Kraft.

This is Goodell's mess. He needs to be exposed and dealt with once and for all. For the "integrity of the game," for real.

If, for the sake of argument, the suspension is fully lifted, the NFL says "Brady was innocent", and the fine is specifically noted to be for not turning over the phone, that's likely the end of things.

Excellent article about how badly the NFL screwed the pooch in this....

Dan is as usual excellent. and he is right, the reputations are forever harmed for a iconic player.

Deflate-gate blew up when a little more than a day after the AFC title game, ESPN, citing unnamed league sources, reported that 11 of the Patriots' 12 footballs were measured to be below 2 pounds per square inch of pressure below the league standard. It further said none of the Indianapolis Colts' footballs were below the minimum.

At the time, the only people with such information worked in the league office. That ESPN story changed the entire complexion of deflate-gate. No longer was this a curious case of potential gamesmanship on a subject that no one, including the NFL itself, had much base scientific information or previous concern about.

Instead it looked like an outright and deliberate cheating scandal, and a major one at that. It couldn't be a coincidence. It couldn't be natural. Someone needed to be punished.

Except the entire ESPN story was wrong. No Patriots football came in that low. None. Most weren't even close. And the few Colts footballs anyone bothered to measure suffered deflation also. The entire framing of the story was completely inaccurate.

If it was originally sold to the public as "some Patriots footballs were a little low, but others weren't and we used two different gauges to check so the numbers varied and we aren't sure what's normal to begin with and no one wrote down the original measurements and we ran out of time to do the Colts' conclusively so who knows about that and it was cold out and ... " this meeting isn't happening.

The league office is guilty of either leaking the fake story in the first place or, at the very least, not coming out to refute it with the actual measurement it had in its possession. Instead the NFL let Brady and the Patriots get crushed. What turned out minor was major. What was confusing was painted as clear. What begged for context was instead stamped as concrete.

The actions of the NFL are far more troublesome than whatever some New England lackey did in the bathroom, with or without Tom Brady's knowledge.

It's why Roger Goodell doesn't want that to become the story.

Oh sure, I'm with you there. If it was the Patriots Goodell would probably piss on himself trying to get a new investigation open. You know, for the 'integrity of the league'.
Since football deflation is such a big integrity of the game issue, they better talk to Schefter and open up two multi-million dollar football deflation investigations. I highly doubt they'll do anything though.

You're probably right IF that happens. I think the declaration that "Brady was innocent" is going to be the sticking point.

Precedent is out the window. There are other "actual proven" instances of cheating and to say that those teams got a slap on the hand is actually an overstatement because that slap would have hurt more than the actual punishments.

The Patriots lose 1st round picks. That is a fact.

Cliff notes...was at work all day? Do i win season tix? Another SB win? WHAT!?!?

Goodell's character witless.

Pathetic. Probably had Woody Johnson hold the car door open for him as well. I can't wait for Edelman or Gronk to torch Mevi$ for a TD so Woody can see Mevi$ throw his hands in the air like he did in the Super Bowl.

Sorry for bringing Woody into it, I just couldn't help myself.

Mike Kensil leaves the building. He was involved for league on DeflateGate Sunday but was not witness today and not at hearing.

Coward

Goodell told Kensil to go home, watch the Patriots - Colts game on NFL Replay, and quit being such a complete douche. Kensil's reply? "No can do, boss. You can take Kensil out of the Jets, but you can't take the Jets out of Kensil."

Brady was suspended for life, and ineligible for the Hall of Fame
BB retired.
Kraft sold the team to Woody Johnson
They are moving the team to Nebraska.

;)

In short, nothing yet.

Doesn't make sense to still keep the picks at this point then. Unless they are saying the dorito dinks deflated the balls without Brady's knowledge.

You're assuming that there was a lay-over of some sort.
What would emailing accomplish? They wanted the live phone interview.
Also, considering that going through Customs ANYWHERE is process that can take time, you're assuming that Kraft would be through in a fashion that would make him available for questioning at a set time. If he missed that, then what? Especially in light of the fact that the league gave Brady and Co only 4 hours to present their case?

I am as disgusted with Bob Kraft as anyone else, but people need to remember that the Patriots are only 1 small part of his business ventures and that he also has many philanthropic ventures which take months of planning.. And the trip to Jerusalem has been one he's been making for 20+ years.

BTW, anyone ever stop to think that the NFL chose this date for the appeal specifically because they knew Kraft would be unavailable? Or is that giving Goodell too much credit?

I dunna know, DaBruinz...

I said in another post that logistically, Bob could have emailed someone in the room and said that he is in a place in the airport in which he can talk. For those of us who travel internationally and try to be on concalls while shuttling between gates or layovers, it's entirely possible. Maybe Bob did try to do this. Maybe he did the El Al direct to Boston and slept the whole time b/c he is old. Maybe he was on a charter w/o wifi or phone access. IMO knowing what I know based on personal experience, he could have lobbed a call in to help TB12 from the plane to support the affidavit he authored.

None of this has made sense from the beginning. Why should we expect it to start doing so now?

I'm checking in here and there ... not wasting my time on this.

There's no media blackout (I assume) so I'm sure the leaks and fun will begin very shortly... hopefully fun for us for a change.

Probably means Brady's team made Goodell and Wells look like the buffoons that they are. But it doesn't mean anything, as Goodell is not reducing the penalty regardless.

Actually, it means alot.

The proceedings took place under oath and were recorded.

The civil courts will get to review what went down.
