I agree.....but if it is just a fine, Brady would wind up spending more in legal fees to overturn
Not an issue. The NFLPA would pick up the bill as they're already doing with the current appeal to the NFL.

Apparently Schefter said on TV that a long snapper and a backup QB have personally told him they deflate balls and that the longer snapper uses a paper clip to do it.

Am I alone in hoping the league offers Brady no reduction? I want this to play out in court. The ONLY way that Brady gets any vindication is if this goes through the court system and ALL the evidence is OBJECTIVELY looked at. I won't be happy with a quiet; "Brady wins his appeal and won't be suspended at all." I don't want the appeal lifted on a technicality. I want the s&%t to hit the fan. I want heads to roll.

If Goodell vacated the suspension, I would be happy with that at this point. Court's an unpredictable place; while the best case scenario is absolutely "Brady takes the league to court and airs out a ton of dirty laundry in that rats' nest", I'd take the certainty of just getting the suspension removed, as long as that remains a possibility.

Patriots long snapper and backup Patriots QB? Or just other examples of deflation?

Would've been pretty ****ing easy for Kraft to be available by phone. He knew when the appeal was. He chose not to. Luckily I no longer have the capacity to be disappointed in Kraft, because I have zero expectations of him being anything other than human garbage.

Yes, because a trip that was planned months in advance with tons of schedules to be coordinated can be changed at a moments notice. . Not to mention that there is no guarantee that Kraft would have phone reception mid-flight.

Seriously, you didn't put a lot of thought into your post, did you.

I do too, but my gut says 1 game suspension, Brady takes it..Goodell does not want this to go to court, sanything more than 1 game and it probably does.
That won't do it imo, brady wants it reduced to nothing and an apology.

Maybe I missed something, but is there some evidence that for some reason he's using a commercial airline for travel?
He wanted to use some El Al frequent flyer miles but I think he got a charter to Israel instead that didn't have WiFi so he could have an excuse not to call in to the appeal.

Good pic of the plane below.

But that's not how this works (it might be how it "should" work, but it's not how I understand that this proceeding works).

The League doesn't have to provide "proof of wrongdoing" by Brady. The standard, as articulated in the CBA, is "more probable than not." Wells found that it was "more probable than not" that Brady was aware of activities that were against the rules. The League doesn't have to provide "proof" beyond a reasonable doubt. If this goes to court, there will be different standards both of evidence and testimony, which will be under oath.

Please provide the section of the CBA that supports your statements..

So, all Brady has to do is convince Goodell that he is telling the truth when he argues that he was not involved in anything that might or might not have broken the rules. He has to convince Goodell that there is another reading of the texts between Jastremski and McNally that have been twisted to implicate him. He has to convince Goodell that he did not have a long phone conversation with one or both of them (his first phone conversation with either of them in over six months) to this effect and that he did not meet with them in the QB room (a place where he had never met with equipment boys) to discuss illicit activities on their part.

I think he can do that. I think he can look Goodell in the eye and tell him that, yes, he put a lot of pressure on those guys to have game balls a certain way, but that he never told them to break the rules and was not aware of anything they had done to break the rules.

That's really where his involvement ends. Kraft has already taken the hit for anything else that might have been done. So, Goodell can come out of this saying that he punished the team for a lack of control of the equipment guys, but that he has cleared Brady.

I think the science argument is only to be front and center in Brady's case if they end up in court because in that case they would want to establish that Brady couldn't have lied about abetting a "crime" that never occurred. However, I think the NFLPA will be hitting it hard for reasons I outlined in another post in this thread.

You have it backwards.. They can show the science would justify Brady not having to send any texts messages or have a conversation regarding deflating the balls and it's much more credible..

I just want this over with quickly so Brady can appeal at the Federal court level and be completely exonerated. We know it won't happen at this appeal, why are they even going through this farce of a process ?

They have to go through this because that is how the CBA is written.. The NFLPA already has it's appeal to the Minnesota Court and Judge Doty ready because of Goodell not recusing himself despite being a witness.

Excellent article about how badly the NFL screwed the pooch in this....

That's a great read, thanks for linking. And the comments bear out the contents of the article: many people now blindly call Brady a cheater...they've always wanted an excuse for why and how the Patriots were that much better and now they have it, a large segment of the football watching public will always believe Brady cheated his way to the SB (and by extension, probably cheated his whole career).

And that's the saddest part of this story...Goodell's reputation sucked to begin with, we all knew he was a bumbling idiot and this investigation was damage control and a show of strength from him. But this was mischaracterized as a 'scandal' from day one and the lies only fueled the fire. There's no going back for Brady. THAT is why I want him to file a defamation suit, regardless of what happens with the suspension. Bring to light the letter to the Pats with a bogus PSI number; the Mort report and the NFL leaving the Patriots blowing in the wind for months. The biased and incorrect analysis in the Wells report. Everything. Then bring Brady's Q rating into the mix, the accusations leveled against him, etc. Defamation is a high bar to clear for a public figure but Brady might have a real shot with how badly the NFL **** this one up.

Not to quote myself but here is the actual Schefter video. He is referring to a NON-PATRIOTS Punter and Backup QB.

Absolutely. A vacated suspention and no court is the optimal outcome.

In that scenario, we can only hope Bend Over Bob decides to execute on his right to arbitration.

Honestly, it's not nothing but it doesn't change anything. We saw the exact same thing with cameraplacementgate. Yeah, gamesmanship happens in every NFL game in every NFL season. Chargers and their stickum towels, Vikings/Panthers putting rock-hard footballs under heaters, etc. The Pats are flat-out held to a higher standard and once the cat's out of the bag it really doesn't matter how many people/teams do the same things, 31 fanbases and owners want to see the Pats burn and Goodell is more than happy to oblige.

Yea. Maybe its a charter as he had all those HoFers with him. Plus if he did the flight, hes doing Tel Aviv (or Jerusalem)-> Heathrow. He could have emailed someone during the layover and after he cleared UK Customs.

Simply put- he didn't want to make the effort.

You're assuming that there was a lay-over of some sort.
What would emailing accomplish? They wanted the live phone interview.
Also, considering that going through Customs ANYWHERE is process that can take time, you're assuming that Kraft would be through in a fashion that would make him available for questioning at a set time. If he missed that, then what? Especially in light of the fact that the league gave Brady and Co only 4 hours to present their case?

I am as disgusted with Bob Kraft as anyone else, but people need to remember that the Patriots are only 1 small part of his business ventures and that he also has many philanthropic ventures which take months of planning.. And the trip to Jerusalem has been one he's been making for 20+ years.

BTW, anyone ever stop to think that the NFL chose this date for the appeal specifically because they knew Kraft would be unavailable? Or is that giving Goodell too much credit?

I agree. It doesn't mean anything because it wasn't Patriots players. But if Schefter was saying Patriots players admitted to them they have deflated, that's a whole different matter.

Oh sure, I'm with you there. If it was the Patriots Goodell would probably piss on himself trying to get a new investigation open. You know, for the 'integrity of the league'.

If Brady's punishment is downgraded to a fine, I would guess that he takes it for exactly the reason you just outlined. But even that he might not take, really depends on his mentality going forward. I think he's made it pretty clear that he won't accept any kind of suspension, though.

If Brady is innocent but wimps out from seeing this through, what does that make him? Bob Kraft.

This is Goodell's mess. He needs to be exposed and dealt with once and for all. For the "integrity of the game," for real.

You can use a satellite phone on a plane these days, bad job by Kraft, again. Very Dissapointed.

Agree -- Planes today have satellite phones and internet connections (for voice calls/chatting) -- it wasn't that he was unavailable, it's that he decided he didn't want to break his promise to his elite club that he would be with them.

Let me know the next time you take an INTERNATIONAL flight and are able to hold your connection the entire time.. You can't..
