Official Brady Appeal Thread: D-Day Tuesday June 23rd

Not open for further replies.
@AdamSchefter: Defense team of Tom Brady was given 4 hours today to present its entire case. Proceedings expected to wrap today, not continue Thursday.

Keep leaking info to your lapdog, NFL

We're on to the appeal...

That's outrageous that 3/4ths of the owners can force a team to sell, but at least 3/4ths can't force a team to fire their HOF HC or cut their HOF QB.

I'm not sure about the coach part, but a penalty against a team can allow the NFL to terminate a player contract and make the player a free agent. In theory, the NFL—again, with 3/4 approval—could have decided to punish the Saints by making Drew Brees a free agent in the wake of Bountygate.

I strongly suspect that owners will only agree to this in an extraordinary situation where no other remedy makes sense. They certainly don't want to lose their autonomy (imagine what would happen if 3/4 of owners could force any owner to release any player at any time, rather than after a finding of team misconduct).

Interesting to note: The @NFLPA called Robert Kraft to testify over the phone. He could not. So he offered a written statement of support.

Amazing. Kraft slaps Brady in the face one more time.

Exactly Bend over Bob is like an X-Stalker Girlfriend who just wont go away.

He never had any official verdict on the report being garbage. What did he have to use as defense at that point? If the report is legally found to be invalid, is that not all the ammo you need?

He chose not to appeal the ruling. Had he appealed the punishment, he could be in the same place that Brady is right now: able to demand exoneration on account of the report being flawed to the point of worthlessness.

But he didn't. Kraft explicitly said that he was accepting the punishment and would not appeal. There's nothing else left to read into it. He chose not to appeal, therefore the punishment stands. Even if he wanted to, it's not within Brady's power to change that.

The NFLPA would have a field day if the league did that and the player didn't want it.

Would've been pretty ****ing easy for Kraft to be available by phone. He knew when the appeal was. He chose not to. Luckily I no longer have the capacity to be disappointed in Kraft, because I have zero expectations of him being anything other than human garbage.

So NFL/Wells get over 100 days for their case. Brady/NFLPA, 4 hours. Seems logical.

That's just the way the American civil courts work. You can't seek legal remedy for an adverse effect to a person who isn't a party to the suit except in really specific situations, and this isn't one of those situations. The draft picks and fine aren't directly harming Tom Brady, so the court can't allow him to seek remedy on behalf of the Patriots organization and Bob Kraft.

The draft pick loss at a minimum in doesn't affect Tom Brady? How so? Maybe it's a guard tha won't be able to protect him. At the very least it impacts his ability to do his job.

The lost draft pick most definitely impacts Tom Brady.

It will be interesting to find out who decided on the 4 hours. If it was the NFL, and the NFLPA felt that more time was needed, that's yet another avenue that the NFLPA could potentially explore in an appeal.

I think you skipped over the word "directly". Everything that anyone does technically affects everyone else. But Brady is not directly affected by the punishments against the Patriots. You can only appeal your own punishments, not someone else's.

There's really no room for reasonable debate here. That's just the fact of the matter.

Wells, Kebsil, Blandino other NFL officers involved in the sting, who leaked false info to Mortenson, that the NFL didn't correct, lots of maggots to get at when the rock is turned over.

I REALLY hope this is what's happening, sets the stage for the next phase and even defamation.

I think this is the point Bradys needs to hammer home regarding not turning over his phone. The whole deflation part as a whole is complete crap. The Wells report alone proves no deflation took part, but they ignored the facts. And we all know there have been plenty scientific findings to prove the balls were not deflated. But if Goodell tries to hold Bradys so called "non-cooperation" over his head Brady and his lawyer should simply bring up the false Mortenson report as reason why he did not turn over his phone. Mort leaked a report that NFL new was not just bogus, but made the Pats look to be more guilty then they were (even though they are not guilty of anything) and did nothing to correct it. Furthermore, after giving the Patriots the correct PSI ratings, they instructed them to keep the info to themselves. All the while Roger Goodell HAD THE NERVE TO TALK ABOUT THE INTEGRITY OF THE GAME. Where's the integrity by leaking false info, knowing its false, sitting on it for months and never refuting it? Brady should easily claim the NFL could not be trusted and the only way he could control any further and future false leaks and outright lies regarding his involvement was to not turn over my phone.

I'm guessing Brady's defense presented their case, Goodell remembered he spent $5,000,000 on his attempted hit and said "No Bueno."

Brady says "I'll see you in court".

Or Goodell put a close to the appeal early to pick up Kraft at the airport for lunch.

Yep. I bet hes in 1st class, has WiFi and can Skype.

He is way past Tomase. Tomase was/is an idiot. I think Volin is worse because he truly has an agenda and he has had zero penalties for his lies and reporting falsehoods. I don't see how you can lie, misinform and peddle BS and not get a) fired or b) suspended.

Tomase ran a pack of lies Super Bowl weekend and did serious long term damage to the franchise with it. What he did was so much greater in magnitude that it blows away any garbage Volin has produced. Volin is a punk but what Tomase did is unforgivable. He's dead to me.

4 hours is more than enough time to rip this 4 month report to shreds.

It doesn't really matter anyways. We all know this appeal is just a sham. Goodell isn't going to do anything but uphold the suspension. The real fight will be in court where Brady and his team will be given plenty of time.

Wow, what an a-hole. Further cementing his position as the worst owner in football.
