The same was true of John Edwards.

These guys aren't idiots compared to the entire population at large. But in certain roles they can be intellectually inadequate for what they need to do.

The same is true of Roger Goodell himself. I am certain his intelligence is, strictly speaking, above the median for the entire US population.

Goodell being a Jetsfan kinda contradicts that implication.

If the NFL wants to do a deal to make the problem go away, anything that's currently off the table can be put back on

When has that ever happened before?

When has that ever happened before?

Not a relevant question, because there have been almost no cases in the past where it COULD have happened.

The reason I brought it up is because of the combination of a heavily penalized player having a high chance of winning a court case and a heavily penalized team that does not have the same legal recourse.

Volin waiting at the wrong door then snarkily blaming Brady for it is the most Volin thing he's ever done. It's almost interesting, watching an over-his-head idiot get bitter and transform into a troll in real-time.

Penalty of perjury.
Depositions are the obvious analogy.
IANAL, so I'll stop there.

not possible when no legal motions have been filed with the courts.......which would be impossible since there is no law that can even have a motion filed against.....there's not even a place for a sworn affidavit

The NFLPA wants ALL PARTIES under oath....IMO.
I suspect Roger has more to conceal than Brady and today's "record" will be included in future legal proceedings. Already a proven liar......let the goof hang himself again

there is no 'oath' here......at least not one that would be binding in a court of law

maybe brady has his hand on the cba while wells has his hand on his report and kessler has his foot on goodells head

Not sure how Goodell could even remove the suspension without giving back picks. Makes no sense.

Because the team penalty was never appealed due to Kraft lacking any testicles. Only Brady's penalty is being appealed.

Brady isn't there to argue about science unless this goes to court.

Today, he's there to convince Goodell that he never told Jastremski or McNally to do anything against the rules and that Jastremski or McNally did not tell him that they had broken any rules during the long phone conversation or the meeting in the QB room.

If today turns into a debate over the science, Brady is going to have to make that case in court.

In court, the logic will be, "the science shows that nothing was done to the balls, so Brady could not have been involved in anything improper."

Today, the logic is "Roger, I didn't tell these guys to do anything against the rules and they have never told me they did so." Goodell either accepts that or he doesn't.

All the science stuff is a prelude to an argument in Federal Court. McPhee will try to establish that they will destroy the Wells report in open court.

As for Wells, he's an experienced litigator and will never admit that his report or the science behind it is flawed even if a Judge rejects his findings and criticizes the report in open court. That's not how these guys are wired.

Disagree completely, I think Kessler is going to go hard at the science to show how flawed the Wells Report was and put the onus on the league to show proof of wrongdoing. I realize the league simply makes sh.t up as they go but getting them on record to that will aid Kessler greatly in court, and I think that's his goal and endgame. He is essentially going to argue that to claim Brady had knowledge of wrongdoing they have to at least prove there was wrongdoing to begin with, and the league has zero proof it occurred other than the deeply scientifically flawed Wells Report.

Go look at the Saints outcome, the courts reversed the player penalties and the league kept the franchise penalties intact.

It has come up frequently and my understanding is that it would violate the CBA.

Well, he cannot increase the penalty for what he is punished for, but Goodell could try to pull what he did with Ray Rice and try to give him a new penalty because Brady lied in the appeal hearing (which he would argue is a penalty separate from the original penalty). It is highly unlikely that he would do it, but with Goodell you never know what he will do.

The Saints players won their case in court and the league still didn't budget despite a scathing rebuke from Tagliabue.

I agree with this, the league is so scummy they could try it but it would still violate the CBA and give Kessler even more ammunition.

Can we please stop with the whole draft picks thing? They are never coming back. It is about Tom Brady now. Kraft capitulated the draft picks are gone. Let's stop wasting time entertaining the notion that we could get them back.

ESPN this morning, with Mike & Mike & guest Schefter, was SO AGGRAVATING.

They were all saying "why did we ever get to the point?" and you'd think that they would see two of the big reasons:

The lie to Mort (11 of 12...)
Not correcting the lie to Mort for over three bleepin' months

But no... they ignored that. To take any blame would be ESPN on ESPN crime. Some fans might then have the gall to demand a retraction. just because a story was blatantly untrue!
