Official Brady Appeal Thread: D-Day Tuesday June 23rd

Rappaport was just on EEI and he is somehow able to reconcile the statement that this is a legitimate appeal with the whole, "new evidence" rhetoric. Ian, if your contacts are telling you that Roger is willing to reconsider his decision if Tom provides new evidence, then this is not remotely a legitimate appeal. It was telling that his ramblings offered numerous scenarios but never once did he mention anything about the possible lack of support to the original sanctions.

Even if Ian is purely reporting on this issue, he should still be able to recognize the discrepancy there.
Rappaport doesn't have the experience, perspective or sophistication in these complex situations to exercise that level of insight and thought.

Say hi to your boss for us, Ian.

Bruce Allen added,

Ian Rapoport @RapSheet
League source explains on Tom Brady: If he says the same thing he did to Ted Wells, his suspension won’t change. How forthcoming will he be?

But what if he is only guilty because the league's process was flawed?

Bruce Allen added,

Albert Breer @AlbertBreer
... In the end, Goodell wants Brady to convince him that he isn't guilty, not that the league's process was flawed. We'll see if he can.

Ian and breer are nfl voices. You can treat these as leaks.

Ben & Dan Shaughnessy outside NFL headquarters today

shalise manza young added,
The CHB Skank and his side kick the wanna be sports reporter volin waiting breathlessly like a couple of vultures to be able to be the first to report anything negative.

I'm thinking the Under Oath thing is a tactic by Brady and his team to rattle Goodell.

I don't know him as well as I do others, so you may be right. I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt before mentally tossing him into the FBOI. :)

I was surprised as well that neither Lou nor Christian mentioned it. There were several times when it seemed like the obvious next question.

They should have done this on TV.

Just seen this on another Pats site. Tom Brady rolling into the hearing.

no, goodell wants to catch brady in a lie. so if brady lies during the appeal, it is an additional 2 games.

@JarrettBell
So much for a cozy chat between Brady and Goodell. I'm told they're expecting 40 people in room at the hearing -- way more than usual.

Per @SalPal_ESPN Brady hearing going on in the basement because there are so many people involved. #Patriots #NFL

Stone Cold Tom Brady is about to stomp a mud hole in Roger and walk it dry.

And that's the bottom line...

Rappaport is a very serviceable reporter. I don't have an issue with him reporting on dumb stuff with a wicked slant like Breer or Volin. He just doesn't have the purvue in these high-profile, complicated news stories. Guys like Len Pasqueralli or even <gulp> John Clayton or Peter King have the experience and perspective to add that nuance as an interesting layer to the storyline.

Actually, there's one kind of circumstance under which Brady might agree to a game of suspension in a settlement -- if part of the deal is to drastically reduce the team penalty, along with the league issuing a statement sharply circumscribing what the penalties are for.
  • Non-cooperation? Unfair, but it can be a good business decision to settle about it.
  • McNally taking the balls out of the referees' locker room? Technically, a violation.

If the league is clear that that is ALL the penalties are for, a settlement could actually happen.

I don't think the team sanctions are on the table at all. Bobby gave the team up so his billionaire buddies would let him back at the cafeteria table.

The idea that Goodell would do the right thing because it's right has not occurred to anybody who's watched him for any length of the time.
I am of the opinion Goodell believes he does the right thing and is just bad at his job rather than he purposely gets things wrong for some unknown reason

Exact same argument I made while they were preparing that report, and I also argued repeatedly that he would never risk his reputation by writing a completely biased and unsustainable report. I couldn't have been more wrong on all counts. Wells is a high priced shill who did as poor a job investigating and writing that report as could be done. He willingly damaged not only his reputation but that of his firm to do the NFL's bidding, and he did such a lousy job that it's doubtful the NFL will ever use him again either. So my conclusion is that he actually is an idiot, and his insistence that he was independent investigator after clearly doing the league office dirty work shows that he is actually a clueless idiot at that.
Wells would have to have his report rejected in stinging terms by a Federal Judge before he would agree with a word of that. However, I do agree that the NFL will likely never hire him again.
