  • Cut to 2 games - Goodell says Brady cooperated on appeal, suspension is for deflating

freeman's talking about the nfl havent something in their back pocket that we dont know about...
what could that possibly be??
The CBA specifically says that all information that will be used must be turned over to the other side 3 days before the hearing or it can't be used.. If there is something, they would have had to turnover Saturday or else they are precluded from using it..

EDIT- Those arrogant SOBs are just stupid enough to try to "Perry Mason" Brady despite the CBA....

I am not sure how many games he will cut it to, but Goodell will work with his attorneys to reduce his suspension and word the appeal decision to make it harder for Brady to go to Federal court. I think that is main agenda with this appeal is to make it as hard as possible for Brady to go to court. Court is inevitable, but he isn't going to make it easy for Brady.

I agree. Goodell may be arrogant and stupid but I expect his lawyers recognize a losing legal hand when they see one.

I'm still waiting to hear about the reason Belichick was punished by taking away his draft picks.

Brady getting his suspension reduced means very little (unless they got 0-4). His rep is forever tarnished regardless of the outcome. Patriots (and Belichick) will forever be known as the team that cheated it's way to a dynasty. And Kraft will always be known as the owner who chose his billionaire buddies over the fans.

Between the overblown 'Spygate' and the major mishandling with these accusations, the NFL has completely destroyed the legacy of this team in the eyes of football fans.

Even if Goodell stood in front of the national media and admitted they were wrong on Brady, fans will just say this was all because of some secret 'deal' Kraft had with him.

It's a no win situation.

My only hope is that BB goes on a major FU tour of the league until he retires. That will be the only redeemable aspect of it all.

I voted for No. 1, unfortunately. Roger will be pigheaded and refuse to back down, spewing his BS about the "integrity of the game" and Brady will have to take his chances in court, time- and outcome-wise. I just hope that whomever hears the appeal hears it and overturns Roger fast so that Brady can start the regular season on the field. If Brady isn't there, I don't think I am going and I am not sure what I'll do with my ticket.

I doubt they will do that if it's against CBA rules, not because they're honorable guys who you can trust to uphold their agreements with the NFLPA, but because it would create a pretty open and shut legal case for Brady against the NFL.

The longer this goes on, the more people will side with Brady as new high-profile NFL scandals come to light that are more serious. Also, as these scandals affect other fan bases.

Just imagine if the suspension is up in the air for another year...

...No coach or fan will really want one of their players suspended for four games for a possible but unproven unfair advantage in a single game, that can be completely explained by the weather conditions alone.

I'll be extremely surprised if there's any reduction in suspension on appeal. Brady's going to have to go to court to get justice.

Agreed. The league is free to do whatever it wants, but if it presents new evidence in the appeal in violation of the CBA, that will just make it even easier for Brady to get the whole thing thrown out when he takes them to court. I hope they commit such an obvious and unambiguous **** up. It will only help Brady's case.

My prediction of the result of the "appeal" -- thanks to @PatsFan98117

I think that the suspension can be completely lifted. Goodell can still look like a hardass but fair and the Wells Report still be viable. Kraft capitulated and said he would accept Goodell's punishment against the Patriots. The 1 million dollar fine and loss of draft picks would still stand. Still a punishment as harsh as what he handed down for Spygate. When the cry begins that he was to lenient and that there was a backroom deal with Kraft, he can point to the team punishment as proof that he still issued one of the harshest punishments ever.

Brady's Legal Team will have a field day with Well's Report. Where's Smokin Gun? Where is creditability in NFL* Staff & Office? How about they give up their E-Mails, Texts and see about Framegate and who was in cahoots with takin down Brady, Pats for their own personal agendas?
Goodell*,Goons* put too much money, time negative exposure on TB & Pats, you would think to totally dismiss all penalties & suspension BUT now it's Brady's turn to turn tables and GO ALL IN at all costs.

I would feel much better if Harvey Specter and Mike Ross were Brady's attorneys.:D

He will not go lower than 1 game, and even if he did, Brady would not accept unless it gave him full exoneration.. which will never happen as Rogah has to save face and justify the Wells Study..

This will wind up in the legal system, where Brady will prevail and there will be implications for due process in similar matters in all future NFLPA matters..
Thats what i say also. Goodys ego is to big to back down now. He reduces it to a game or two but takes a month or more for the decision, brady sayz see ya in court.

I think this is more about the number of games that will or will not be missed. Brady will never be fully exonerated, at least not in the media or public, thats over at this point. I could see him taking a game or two. But unless RG come out and states that Tom didn't do anything and removes the penalty entirely then Tom never gets fully exonerated. So what are the odds RG does that...0%?

I voted vacated to zero.

1. I don't think Goodell is very bright BUT I'm sure he consulted with someone who suggested it may be in his best interest to avoid court. Goodell's arrogance may render him immune to sound advice but . . .

2. I want to keep a happy thought in my head.

LOL, I was thinking that I wished there was a button for what we hope happens vs. what we think will happen...

I keep getting blasted for it but I don't think Brady is taking it to court. Blast away but I don't think TB12 wants to be put under oath. I admit scientifically the Wells report proves nothing, I just can't get past the texts. Deflator because he is trying to lose weight, please. If Brady doesn't watch it I'm going to go to ESPN and Brady denying he knew McNally. Hard to explain away.

Goodell* can suck it! The NFL* can go to poop!

Torn over this. I think Goodell will stick to his 4 games to give the appearance of being the firm enforcer. I also think it is possible he throws out the deflation charges and suspends for "lack of cooperation" which I think will be much harder to fight in court than the evidence of football deflation. "lack of cooperation" is a vague charge and will be harder to overturn.
Not when presented in the context of prior discipline for "lack of cooperation."

"Where's the smoking gun?" doesn't even do it justice. It's more like "where's the evidence--any evidence at all--that a bullet was even fired in the first place? Who got shot?

Looking for a smoking gun implies that something happened worth investigating.
