The End of Football

We are certainly done as a society if our chosen mental model for effective and satisfying organization is based on hyper-violent activity that is the last possible choice for civilized human behavior.

Again, is it extreme? Sure. Examples bro. The last possible choice for civilized behavior is capitulation, by the way. So me personally I'd choose, how did you say "hyper violent activity", before that.

Pretty sure that people are complaining about adults who apparently can't sit through work meetings for more than a half-hour at a time, and about a coach who doesn't expect his players to be professionals.

H8 crime against elders with prostrate issues

Or maybe they can deposit their phones in a box before meetings and focus on their job. Too much coddling. What's next? Work 5 take 5? If anything it points to a problem with how kids are being raised today. Anyone under the age of 13 should not have a phone that does anything got other than a)call parents b) cops or C) a specific non relative. Or something along those lines.

Point is, if all you can focus on is 30 minutes then its a problem. In the end, for the majority of people who work for a living that don't get 10 min breaks every 30 and for far less pay, this is ridiculous.
NFL coaches aren't in charge of raising the entire generation. They are tasked with training their players in the most effective way they can.

I hope you posted this on an appropriate work break!
Not a great rebuttal.

Tell you what ... you go tell your boss that your meetings need a break every 30 minutes so everyone can surf and text. Then tell us how hard he laughs.

I agree. Most bosses would laugh, even if you presented them a mountain of research and data that support the approach. It is sad that the vast majority of people in our culture are so closed minded.

Here's an interesting tidbit. The population with the most productivity per hour worked in the world is the one that averages the least hours worked in a week. Denmark should be the model, not the exception.

BB is super old school. Yet he has tremendous success on the field, the players who leave very seldom bad-mouth him, and he commands respect from young people every season.

Thank goodness this is the individual running our fav team.

In some ways BB is old school, but he is also very adaptive and open minded. That said, I think he prefers players who are mentally tough and is unlikely to choose the "short session/many breaks" method.

Pats have been pioneers in the digital tech world. Video on tablets, etc. Not old school there.
But the ****ification of the game for the latest fad disorder ADD is not in the cards for BB.

OK all ball busting aside, I agree that a 2 hours straight meeting w/o a mental break is likely not conducive to maximizing attention, learning and subsequently, retention.

While we are at it, is there any scientific basis for th 8-9 hour workday? I find that I am really effective for around 6 hours of it most of the time.

I LOVE this comment to the article..

"I wonder if the next innovation to be adopted in order to appeal to Millennials will be to give them all a championship ring on the first day of practice.|

The Patriots roster is comprised almost entirely of millenials, so probably not.

I understand that BB is innovative, by all account he's also a good listener ready to try a player's suggestion (such as the NFLN's retrospective when he and Brady chat in the coach's office).

When I say old school, I mean "show up to work" (something that seems less and less common), do your job, winning > personal goals... He wants production. So much so that he'll gladly keep the UFA over a vet.

Love me some BB. Love me some winning.

I really hate my generation. We're nothing but a bunch of spoiled, entitled, technology obsessed brats that have contributed little to nothing to the world. We've had our asses wiped for us since birth and have been told how special we all are. Contrast this with the World War II era generation and you have a steep, STEEP decline.

When I woke up this morning I was like "Hey, I hope I can read a bunch of old bastards complaining about kids these days and their phones."

It was starting to look grim but then this thread!

I must be getting old but restaurants and cell phones annoy the f- out of me.

You saw the thread with those trophy banners the Colts put up for participation in the post season.

Maybe a 6th place ribbon for the fat kids if we're lucky.
