Tom Curran: "Brady will Rag Doll the NFL's Case!"

I feel like Curran may have some insider info on a new angle about to break - he specifically mentions Kensil, Vincent etc - it would be great if the lid was blown off this ridiculous conspiracy to enforce parity on the Patriots through nonsensical allegations.
I have thought this all along as well, but I'm still waiting for those "nuggets" to fall.

I just read the article and I'm trying to take off my Patriots goggles and say yes, it's what I wanted to read, but no, there's no qualitative difference in the reporting.

It's "the feeling is" rather than "sources say..." So therefore I'm trying not to hang any fan-emotion on this. There is this: a union in a quasi-adversarial relationship with the League is way more likely to back his case than 1/32 of league ownership (Kraft) or the hired random "judge," goodell.

This scandal's just ugly to me, because it lays bare the NFL* for what it is as an organization. But I guess I have said this before and am stating the obvious saying it again.

But if there's anybody who has an interest in backing Brady, it's the NFLPA (the guys who Brady has backed in the past.)

Now I wonder if they hang with him past the Goodell appeal stage and into any court case... of course we also do not know whether Brady goes to court.
I think the NFLPA will back Brady as long as it takes. They have a vested interest as well. Any method to neuter Goodell is a win-win for them, especially with his track record and inconsistent rulings around player discipline.

Two great points

1) Curran's latest is nothing more than red meat for the faithful....but a contrarian take outside New England. Comcast Sports has done a nice job of creating content ...aka....Hot Takes..... that get NATIONAL exposure. My Yahoo National News link is displaying 3 Comcast hot takes right now (almost always Curran and Tanguay ....rarely Douche and Squeaky)....Well done Comcast.......all opinion "takes" with no underlying basis of support. This board criticizes the likes of Douche and Squeaky for contrarian opinions to drive exposure...well ...Curran's angle is contrarian to outsiders and thus getting outsider exposure. It's all a game.....and Comcast is targeting a more national presence.

2) Unions love victories but these victories are most often drawn out skirmishes that last multiple years if not longer. They keep pressing their issues hoping to slowly erode opposition. (Think any social issue up for debate and how unrelenting proponents are). Brady's current altercation with the NFL is just another vehicle used by the NFLPA to chip away the NFL's dominant control over its players. Who knows how the Brady skirmish will go....but a Brady defeat could be useful for the NFLPA because it would create resolve amongst the members to band together next bargaining session. Another game....long and drawn out.
No doubt the NFLPA loves the attention that a player of Brady's status creates....so it is no surprise the "31" strong armed Kraft into joining a unified front. Goodell's sovereignty is being judged again on a national level....and no doubt the union will use the elevated coverage to score points....major or minor.

this doesn't end with Brady's exoneration..........when you get to the crux of the public damage inflicted without any substantial evidence, somebody is going to have to go down for it

the only real question is whether goodell will turn on his jet buddies to save his own ass

combine the ideal gas law with the motives of both kensil and the colts equipment manager, and you have a much more likely scenario for wrongdoing than ANYTHING the pats did that day

kensil was with the jets for 28 years and 10 months.....that alone is motive enough

Mike Kensil, Jetsinsider fan since 2010 on Facebook. In 2010 he was working for the NFL

There is nothing in this article that gets me excited, it's only his opinion, I'd rather wait.

Seems to me like Goodell has realized that he overplayed his hand, and will soon be staring across the table at guys who aren't afraid to call his bluff. Kessler and Brady are not going to fold and RG is looking at that pair of deuces in his hand,

That's a rhetorical question, if anything. Goodell is a scumlord. He'd put a knife in his mother's back if it meant saving his own ass.

Two things:

1. Curran one of the few guys in the Mass Media that has the ability to report on Patriot issues, good or bad, without taking a dump on the entire organization or without looking like he was imported from Miami/Baltimore/Indianapolis.

2. Can we give this guy some "clicks" , "hits" or comments? I think he has earned that.

I hope he does but wish curran had some more substance in this case other than the NFLPA's letter.

Hes a LinkedIn novice too. He has two accounts. One he created as Dir. Then once he was promoted he created a new one. Idiot.

There is a ton of evidence against the investigation, Wells Report, and the resulting sanctions and the inappropriateness of all three aspects of this issue, and people here and some in the media have been banging away at it for months, the AEI report simply wraps it all up neatly and give Brady the weapon to go into court and watch his attorney destroy the league office, Ted Wells, and his sh.tty report. I see no way Brady misses a game when all is said and done because while the league office can ignore all of the actual facts and evidence a court won't, and the veneer of impartiality and fairness will be stripped away leaving the league office looking as corrupt and petty as they really are.

I heard an interesting take on the Brady appeal the other day that made a lot of sense to me about how it will end. Sorry but I forget who said it. It goes like this.

Goodell will hear the appeal and drop the absurd penalty a game or two. Brady and the NFLPA will refuse the deal and take it to court where the league is something like 1-33. In court Brady gets cleared to play game one (sorry Matt Flynn). Brady gets his redemption. The Pats get their player. (which is ultimately good for the league) Goodell gets to say to the other owners, I did what I could. I didn't cave to the Pats, we took that #1 and 4 draft picks and best of all, ruined their reputation.

Thus in the end the haters will get most of what they were after, and the Pats get a crumb.

My curiosity is that if the Wells report is debunked in court and it is proven that nothing was done how does Roger maintain the loss of draft picks?

I agree with everything you wrote, but there is one thing that troubles me a lot and that is TIME. When you go to court you have to move on THEIR speed, and courts move very slowly. Goodlell can drag the appeals process for months, and by the time it even gets to court the season can be started making it all moot. In other words, the TIMING of this entire process is a BIG issue and needs to be part of any discussion of it.

If Goodell did drag the appeals process for months would that add ammo to Brady's defamation case?

Unfortunately, I don't think he has to, Tony. I don't think draft picks get to have any court standing, only people. Plus, if I understand it, didn't our owner already "accept" the decision?

Ultimately it would be fine for Brady, but it would keep him off the field in 2015 until the court makes its decision.
