OT: MLB St. Louis Cardinals Hack Gate

I was wondering what the penalties might be. Since this was done by front office personnel, it wouldn't apply to the manager or players. A post-season ban would be insane. Taking away draft picks is possible, but it doesn't have the same impact as basketball or football. I'm pretty sure the MLB draft was last week and no one really noticed. A massive fine is certainly on the table, plus whatever criminal proceedings the FBI decides to go with.

In a nod to Game of Thrones, they might also consider having a MLB official follow each batter to the plate the first time through the order, ringing a bell and chanting "Shame, Shame, Shame" for a month.

A post season ban is immensely responsible. They didn't just get Astros stuff, they have conversations about numerous other organizations. One states a team is looking at keeping an 85mm dollar payroll. That's a huge advantage. Yes are you hurting the players? Sure. But you still pay them. You have to do something huge to hurt them, as much as possible. They do it in college.

It is kind of sad that that statement even needs to be said. Considering the Patriots "cheating" is really:

1) Filmed a guy standing in front of 80,000 people from an illegal location
2) Outsmarted an opposing head coach with a new and innovative formation
3) Been falsely accused of tampering with equipment

Then yes, I'd say violating federal law is a bit more serious than the above.
He followed that up by saying he was "trying to be nice"

I can't believe an actual journalist said that to a fan's criticism of his tweet. No wonder he works for Bleacher Report.

St. Louis should be required to fund Houston's payroll in 2016.
St. Louis should be prevented from participating in the 2016 MLB draft.
MLB should take over operational control of the Cardinals until a sale of the team is complete.
I like the first one. The 3rd one would be absurd. And the draft picks... all of them would be too much. But I could see taking away half of them.

let's all be honest here. nobody really cares about baseball. ratings don't lie. NFL is much more popular. medias talk about NFL way more than baseball. maybe 10-15 times more.

talking extensively about baseball cheating scandal won't generate rating. it's all about business of driving more $. and we are patriots and anything we do generates public interest.

Idiots on other boards have all ready started blaming the Patriots. Supposedly tongue in cheek.

2013 National League title tainted now.

People in St. Louis care about baseball and the Cards in particular. The Rams and Blues barely register on their interest meter.

Agreed -- this is the wrong city for this to happen to in MLB. It would be like a huge scandal involving the Montreal Canadiens or Toronto Maple Leafs in hockey.

Now this, if it's as bad as it looks, is a BIG FREAKING DEAL. This isn't just breaking rules and regulations, there are federal laws at play here. And the unfair advantages that the Cardinals had may have helped shaped their entire organizational direction from baseball operations to gameday management.

This deserves to be front page news because THIS is a real scandal.

Lindough didnt change his password when he switched teams.

This isnt some group of cardinals blackhats hacking everybody in some basement dwelling. This is some FO guy coming across old passwords and testing them out.

give me a break. /care

The guy who did it will be fired and ejected from ever working in baseball again. And im fine with that.

You are a moron. It's corporate espionage. Did you see the dead spin article with the info that they got?

Can someone ban this fool?

not going to engage with someone who obviously wants to get personal.

It's unlikely that the Federal Bureau of Investigation has spent the last 12 months looking into a password situation. We've been where you could be going. Buckle up, brother...

Nice try Cards! But you still can't top taking air out of footballs. Letting air out is MUCH WORSE of an offense than hacking into another team's computers.
