Unfollowing him from twitter in the pre-season last year was the best thing I could of done in a long time.

@BenVolin @Odd_Hack I could be wrong, but I believe that's the Kraft food entity. Not Bob Kraft

ProjectRoto retweeted Ben Volin

@Odd_Hack @BenVolin kinda irresponsible for him to tweet that out and then follow up with this: https://twitter.com/benvolin/status/610147402771746817… #Journalism101

ProjectRoto added,

Ben Volin @BenVolin
Unclear if Kraft Foundation is related to Robert Kraft and family. Trying to find out

I'm sure Ben Volin won't mind if I do a search of the sex offender database, find someone with the name B. Volin and start a story that says he's a pedophile or something like that

Just an honest mistake... there's really no need for me to verify such a story

I can always apologize later after I have a few million people believing that he's a child molester :)

I've spent most of my adult life working at think tanks. Grants come with very specific reporting requirements. Think tanks aren't Google. There's no 20% projects. You have to bill your time to a project. If there was no financial incentive for AEI here, AEI resources weren't being used; the authors may have been able to put it up on a personal blog or something, but not with the AEI brand and not on AEI time.

I agree. AEI is well-known as a think tank whose staff time can be bought by coming to them with an individual donation and asking for a study. That's why, I suspect, AEI was the one who ultimately was approached to do this.

I don't think it's particularly problematic, for what it's worth. As others have noted, the Wells report was paid for. In the end, all research is.

So what think tanks did you work for?

The Wells report was also done "independently" but was most certainly paid for. Similarly, AEI had to get paid for it somehow - those infographics and reports don't edit and compile themselves. Staff time is valuable. They're also not required to disclose individual donations, so why would they? The only thing they were ethically required to report is that they have no financial stake in the outcome of the investigation, which is 100% true regardless.

You believe the wells report was done "independently?

Who gives a crap who paid for the report? If one report states 2+2=5 and the other states 2+2=4 it doesn't matter who funded it. One is BS and one isn't.

Wait, what?

When did Ben Volin stop beating his wife and molesting children?

I'll get back to you later on whether this is the same Volin or not. Until then I will keep this posted until further notice.

EDITED: Google just confirmed Ben Volin is not related to the other Ben Volin. I regret the error and apologize to the Dorito Dink.

Ben took a page out of his lazy pal Shank Shaughnessy's book with his piece today. It is largely a regurgitation of the CBA rules pertaining to OTAs. Fascinating, spell-binding literary work, Benjie. If I hadn't just arisen from a full-night's sleep, I'd have been snoring in my recliner after 3 sentences.

Lmfao... This would be the perfect opportunity to turn the tables on him and report his arrest, then 3 hours later say oh wrong Ben Volin sorry.

Who pays for reports is significant.

Can someone just enroll this young lad in a remedial summer school program?:confused::confused:

Ben Volin ✔ @BenVolin

I understand what you mean but I disagree. What is significant is the validity of the report and the reputation of the organization that created it. I do understand that who funded it can play a roll in the argument but if the reported facts and conclusions hold up against scrutiny, the "who funded it" concern becomes insignificant.

Fair enough. It's just that in so many cases the question of who funded a report become the clearest indicator of what the report's conclusions will be, it's hard to dismiss its importance.

May I suggest to Ian that he please, pretty please stop posting Ben Trolin tweets on the sidebar?

If it hasn't been suggested already, that is.
