The Patriots cut ties to Brandon Spikes. And Spikes appears to be cutting all ties to the Pats. The linebacker is selling his 2011 AFC Championship ring on eBay.

It's yours for at least $19,499. Anyone else smell spite in the air?

Poor bastard wasn't here at the right time to get one of these. He'd have made a lot more.

The assumption in the linked article seems to be that he's being spiteful, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if he just really needs the cash.

A lot of these guys just aren't prepared to go a season without income, and it looks like that's what he'll be doing. Plus legal fees, and it's not a good picture if you haven't been responsible with your money (and the vast majority of NFL players aren't).

Cmon Spikes you had an INT in that game!

He needs it for his car insurance which has inexplicably "spiked"..

It's not exactly a Super Bowl ring either. Kinda just a reminder of a game you didn't win...

The thing is, it's a short-sighted move. No matter how he feels about Patriots, or his experiences, and no matter what his financial position is, it's just plain dumb.

Once that ring is gone, it's gone and it's likely never coming back. It's one of less than a hundred, I believe, made and it represents something he was a part of. An important part of. He ought to be keeping it as a reminder of one part of his life, not be selling it for a few thousand dollars. There are other ways to raise cash than going this route.

I suspect that someday he'll regret selling it.

The same "ilk" that writes a dumb article about "spite" would be writing about "The Cheatriots" if they were in another city.
I agree with all the above people that he needs cash .
