Revis was outstanding last year. While he was not 2009 Revis, he still was a major factor in helping the team win the Super Bowl.
He was outstanding because he hardly was ever thrown at. Which I guess makes him outstanding.

I'll take Mike Haynes.

I should have clarified my statement to include the Polian rule changes, which went into my thinking. It has to be more difficult to play CB now than then.

Plus, I remember watching Mevis shut down Randy Moss most of the time, and nobody else could come close to that.

Yea...He did lead the team in total targets and passes allowed. With that said he led all CB's in total snaps.

In theory, if he sucked he would have been targeted more and would have performed not as well.

He hardly made any plays because he didn't have many opportunities. Without question he was the most boring Patriot to watch last season. Pretty ironic.

Well the good news is that the team may have a more fun secondary to watch this year as guys like Fletcher are in full sprint behind an open wideout, arms pumping like the T-1000 chasing after a car containing John and Sarah Conner.

That actually is pretty true. For the 1000 or so snaps he was out there, he made a few plays that were exceptional.

I want to see him either get ran over by Gray or Blount, or stiff armed by Edelman but better yet would be carried into the end zone on Gronks back.

Some serious revisionist history going on here. Revis was an important part of that SB run but no way he was staying. I'll be satisfied that when he looks back on his career his only ring will be with the Patriots, and that he could have had a shot at more but passed on it.

Where did this myth come from that he didn't play well in the postseason? He had 2-3 bad plays in the Ravens game and one could easily argue that his lack of physicality at the LOS was largely due to the awful way that game was officiated. No corner would be able to help the pick play in the Super Bowl. Other than that, he largely wasn't thrown at. Luck didn't even look his way in the AFCCG either. So I don't get where this came from.

Well, he got burned by Smith for the TD and took two very costly penalties, so that's three right there in a very close game that could have gone either way.

He's a great player who had an excellent year but, let's face it, the Ravens game was not his finest moment.

i think baldwin would have beaten revis regardless of the ref being in the way. revis looked to be a good 5-7 yards behind baldwin. without the ref revis would still have been 3 yards behind.

Yea the BAL game was substandard for Revis.

Played poorly at the beginning of that Ravens game that allowed Baltimore to build a 14-0 lead.

Baldwin was constantly getting open on him in the SB.

His only good game was against Indy, but he was covering a corpse that game.

2-3 poor plays max. The TD and the holding call late in the game were on him. The PI down the right sideline was a crock of ****. Revis has been playing guys like that his entire career AND the ball was underthrown.

Surely you jest. 1 rec. 3 yards 1 TD... on a play where Revis had to run through the ref to break it up.

Incorrect.

Yep. Revis consistently shut down great receivers all season and allowed them to play more aggressively on defense. He was gone the moment Woody Johnson wept openly for him but that doesn't change the fact that he was a critical piece in that Lombardi run. He can't be replaced individually but their front seven is much improved and I believe Belichick will find the way to get good enough play out of the secondary to get them back into the final four again, what happens from there will depend upon how healthy they are and how they are playing. If healthy and they are peaking they will have as good a shoot at winning the Lombardi as any of the contenders.

Baldwin was getting open constantly. Wilson just wasn't getting the ball to him for some reason.

The guy was a merc, but I am not going to take shots at his play with the Pats. Talib was the best CB the Pats saw for a long time, and he had a habit of getting hurt, missing big games, and showing up big in other games. Revis started and finished the season. Not a small thing.

The secondary was unquestionably designed around Revis (BB and the coordinator apparently saw something there), facilitated coverage sacks and came up with big stops throughout the year (regular season and playoffs). The guy's career is reaching the end, so as a merc he saw more future dollars in the larger metropolitan area of New York and went there.

Nothing but love for him as a member of the Pats last year. He was a big piece of the puzzle in getting them to the title, but now he wears green and I hope he gets lit up like a Christmas tree.

Sweet ring too!

The secondary has serious questions to be answered but I'm not going to assume they will suck because of the lack of big names. That could end up being the case but I'll wait to see how it plays out on the field. If Hightower and Mayo are healthy then this will be an excellent front seven that should be effective against the run and have a very good pass rush. They are going to have to get career years out of their young guys as well as Fletcher and McClain but if their defense come together as a unit they could well be good enough to win another Lombardi.

Revis was statistically superior than Logan Ryan. He was thrown to more and overall covered better players.

I have also seen the Baldwin/Revis breakdown. There were times where Baldwin shook Revis loose but there were many times Revis played a soft man and had help over the middle.

Agreed, but he's also an ass hole Jet player

You should watch those GIF's more closely. A few things...

1. Revis was not beaten on every route. There are a few instances there where Revis wins at the LOS and, by the time Baldwin separates, Wilson had already moved on in his progression.

2. Revis clearly was not playing press man in a lot of those GIF's. As a corner playing press man, only Sherman can compete with Revis. Some of those were off man.

3. There were only 9 examples in that article, a lot of them where Baldwin still didn't clearly beat Revis as you had suggested (which was "consistently").
