Logan Ryan, Scott Chandler Among OTA Standouts

I knew Chandler would be a beast.

Hes going to blow ip this season Weaker style.

There's only so many passes to go around. If Chandler goes off, someone else is going to lose catches. Brady isn't going to throw for 6000 yards and 50 touchdowns.

But still, a lineup of Blount, Edelman, LaFell, Gronk, and Chandler from the 5 yard line is going to be pretty hard to stop.

You know this how? There aren't a fixed number of catches allowed.

Also, if Chandler performs great he could take some strain off of Gronk, increasing the chances that he'll be healthy in the playoffs.

As teams take away Edleman that will open it up for guys like Chandler.

Brady throws to the best hands and Chandler has some.

Good point. I would rather have guys who only have average NFL speed but run great routes and have great hands, as opposed to fielding guys with deep speed who only run one or two routes and are liable to drop it even if they get separation.

lol @ OTA reports.

I know right?! That would be even more awesome. Replace Amendola with Dobson and you've got 2 big targets, 2 REALLY big targets, and a smaller guy who can juke you right out of your cleats. What a nightmare for defenses.

Is it still considered a Quarter Back sneak if there is no one left on the defensive line to stop you from walking into the endzone?

I was laughed at when I proposed putting Edelman in the backfield after cadet was signed (my point was mainly for 3rd down situations, but not necessarily limited to that). The big question is whether he could/would block and if he could handle the added injury risk.... I think the answer is 'yes.' As far as handing the ball off, we've only really seen him on jet sweeps, but I like the idea of Edelman draws against a distracted defense... or him being back there just as a distraction himself.

So many opportunities to confuse/reveal/mismatch against the defense with Gronk motioning back and forth from WR to TE, and Edelman going WR to RB. He's proven to be one of the best players in the NFL in space. One way or another, just get the guy the ball.

I smell a new rule change at the end of the season. This sounds too deceptive and we can't have that.

If Edelman throws another TD the next rule change will be only the QB is allowed to throw passes for the Patriots, and all 31 other teams remain as now.

Not just that, but the amount of trips to the redzone and % of successful trips to the redzone goes up, which will also mean more catches and TD. This offense is set to be one of the best in football. The Patriots were already pretty good in the redzone, but Chandler and a health Dobson could make the redzone offense best in the league. They already get there more than anyone else. Now they can score more than anyone too.

Not to throw cold water on OTA's and what they represent, but Zack Sudfeld was also a OTA standout.

I'm really excited to see a Gronk Chandler tandem. If these two stay healthy I think it will remind you a lot of the two tight end sets we used to use.

The best part of the Chandler signing is he allows Gronkowski to be used as a flex TE, meaning they can use him all over the field. If Aaron Hernandez was dominate in that role high on angel dust and with gun powder residue on his hands image how productive Gronkowski will be.

Assuming health, the red zone offense should be near unstoppable this season. Three big bodied wideouts/TE's in Gronk, Chandler, and LaFell to go with the shifty white guys in Edelman and Amendola and Blount when you want to pound the rock.

Suds wasn't an experienced player with a solid record.

The Pats didn't even complete 50% of their 3rd down conversions last season. Think of how many times they settled for a FG ending the drive right there? Converting more 3rd downs equals more opportunities in the passing game.

They made 98 out of 221 total 3rd down attempts. 60% would be 132 conversions. That's 100 more offensive plays right there. With this pass defense the Pats better control the clock and the ball or all hell will break loose.

Except that Chandler routinely killed us. Sudfeld does not.

Ball at opponent's 10 yard line. Lineup of Gronk & Chandler at TE, LaFell & Amendola (or Gibson) out wide, and Edelman in the backfield. Imagine defending that! You could run the TEs and WRs as straight blockers (LaFell, Amendola and Gibson are all great blocking WRs) and handoff to Edelman... Or you could release everyone into a pass route and have to defend 3 big targets and 2 small shifty targets all at once.... Depending on the defensive alignment, you could have major mismatches either way.

How about:

Gronk, Chandler, C Jones, Collins, + Edelman out backfield

I am not a big believer in OTA performances, but Sudfield was a rookie undrafted free agent. Chandler has actually played in the league and played well.

...or alternatively operate at a level of offensive efficiency (see 2010 and 2011) so historic teams struggle to catch their breath in trying to keep up.
