Just HOW Incompetent and UNETHICAL Is MCI (Ben Volin)?

This is one of the biggest problems with Twitter. I used to enjoy the speed of information, but speed has taken precedent over accuracy, which is unfortunate.

I moved away from new england long ago, although I guess I could still frequent their websites, but if some paper is ripping the local team why would you buy it, read it, or link it?

I used to read the sun-times here in chicago a bit, mostly for sports, and they hired this guy, jay mariotti.
he's one of these guys who makes a living off everybody else's name who actually put work in and became successful.
he make it a point to put, say, michael jordan's name in his column and then rip the guy because he's famous, and I guess considered kind of a local sacred cow, so it stirs up all this controversy.
I quit buying that paper.

I'm sure they didn't miss my spare change, but the point is people need to vote with their feet.
every election I hear everybody come out of the woodwork to trumpet the importance of voting, etc, but can't be bothered to do it on a day to day basis.

people only get fired when they don't get hits or views and their paper doesn't sell
who are the 39k people following volin on twitter?

I'm fairly confident every member on this forum would make a better beat writer than Ben Volin. I disagree with a lot of people on here but at least I have the sense that he or she would have the work ethic to do more than a 2 second Google search before looking like a complete buffoon on the Internet. The fact that the globe employes this pathetic excuse use for a beat writer should tell you all you need to know about that has been, worthless trash publication

Someone paid for it - these things aren't done out of the kindness of hearts. But it's more likely it was Brady and team than Kraft; Brady has something material to gain out of this (4 games is no small dent in his wallet), while Kraft does not.
That actually shows that none of these guys read the content of the report but decide to accept it or reject it based on the messenger not the message.

I'm willing to accept some inaccuracy from Joe Schmo, twitter mope, but this guy is supposed to be a journalist. And don't you get the feeling there was vindictiveness behind it. A desire to cast doubt on the veracity of a report that exonerates the Pats 'cause it doesn't fit with his narrative.

He needs to go the way of Tomase and only be allowed to cover the Sox.

See this is the thing. Local beat writers for the Bruins and Sox should be ripping those teams. Colossal disappointments, but the Pats? Cmom they just won a fricken SB..

Do the editors of these "major news outlets" ever hold their reporters accountable, or do they just have free reign to post anything they want??.. true or not.

Beyond my comprehension the lack of fact checking and "need for speed" to post items such as this.. breaking news on Twitter only on Ben Volin's Twitter.. what if everyone stopped following Ben Volin??

Even PFT is jumping on this horse..

They failed to do so, which means that the evidence in turn fails, in the opinion of AEI, PFT, and plenty of others, to satisfy the “more probable than not” standard.

Sure. I wasn't saying it was problematic, just that it was paid for.

Actually, scholars at AEI do studies like this all the time. that's what they do.

Not true. AEI is a think tank. They get grant money and they just can explore whatever the heck they want.

Here is a link to the interview with Steve Veuger (one of the authors of the AEI report) by Adam Jones. At the 5:15 mark, Veuger says that they basically did based on lunch conversations and debates between his colleagues at AEI.

It just isn't Twitter. It is journalism in general. Many news organizations and writers have adopted the "It is better to be first and apologize later for being wrong than be last and be right" philosophy.

Thanks, Rob. I was off in conspiracy land on who actually paid for this.

This settles that question.

Jones is such a jerk, it killed him that the Pats are innocent. Being a dink who doesn't understand science or statistics he wanted to get the AEI guy to argue about text messages. He couldn't grasp the idea that if the balls behaved the way the science predicted, there was by definition no tampering and everything about text mugs and cooperation was noise that doesn't matter.

The Globe used to have the best sports section in the country. Colin is such a hack.

Willie McDonough is not walking thru that door.

I would have loved the statistician to estimate the chance confiscating any random phone full of text messages would render mysterious, suspicious messages of any type the confiscator desired.

Adam Jones is a Sean Hannity type hack, filling his questions and comments with innuendo.

Look at Jones's work history. ESPN Radio and intern for Felger on 890.

That's all you need to know.

The azzbackwards reporter does, after he reported, what he should have done before he reported. Off with his head! What's that? You can't find it???

Yeah, he really does look like he sucks at his job, which is why I stopped reading his drivel a long time ago, I tried giving him a chance, but he proved himself to not warrant such a chance.

In a normal year Violin would be a contender for the John Tomase Award, given annually to the media member who shows the least integrity and most dishonesty, but this year Chris Mortenson is so far out in front with his 11 out of 12 story that he will be tough to catch. Given that Mort is apparently sticking to his story even n though everyone knows it is in fact complete bullsh.t he could well end up with a major award named after him as well zirconian plated pile of bull dung given yearly to the Tomase winner.
