I think that there is room for another running back to compete with what we have. I wouldn't be shocked if a free agent could pass all of our running backs with a good camp and pre-season.

MG LOCKS
Blount (unlikely to beat out by Gray AND Gaffney)
Bolden (he backs up both RB positions and plays lots of special teams)

COMPETING FOR TWO ROSTER SPOTS
White, Cadet, Gray, Gaffney, Lewis, free agent TBD

ANOTHER VIEW OF THE TWO ROSTER SPOTS
1st down back: Gray, Gaffney
3rd down back: White, Cadet, Lewis

Is moreno still a fa?

Yes, if he can also play CB.

Rushing the passer is no longer required.

Latest reports say he's likely out for the year, knee is supposedly in bad shape. Ahmad Bradshaw was good last year, could be a nice signing if healthy. Ben Tate had some talent at one point, not sure if it's just a bad attitude now. Pierre Thomas would probably be better than what they currently have for the third down role.

It's 3d n 12 at midfield n Brady's looking at dime coverage. With Vareen Woodhead back there, u could take a chance n even run it
I don't know enough about Cadet or Lewis to say that. As for White. Not what little I saw last year.

Plenty of talent at RB....let them fight it out

May the best RB's win !

If Bradshaw is healthy he would do well in this offense IMO. Thomas could be adequate but I think he might be hitting a performance wall pretty soon, don't know how much tread is left on his tires. Moreno is not healthy this year.

I would be surprised if they added anyone else though. I think they'll let the guys they have battle it out. I also think if Cadet shows enough, he will make the team even if White or Lewis beat him out for the 3rd down back role. He has multiple ST talents the team would likely want to take advantage of.

Lewis could be that RB, but he needs to show he can be a reliable receiver.

Well, I posted a college highlight mostly running, but here's a pass and pretty good moves in the pros.

If a decent vet gets cut this summer then yes ...
We have enough youth in camp ... rather see a veteran for the last RB slot.
If we're going young ... I like what we already have going to camp.

Why do we believe that there is plenty of talent in the following? What have they shown as NFL players?

Cadet
Gray
Gaffney
Lewis

How likely is it that there are two that will be serious contributors?

Im rooting hard for Gaffney, and believe he has the potential to take over as a possible 3 down back, even though we all know bill doesnt really do that to often.

On a side note, I would love for the team to sign Ahmad Bradshaw. He is one of the best 3rd down backs in the league WHEN HEALTHY. Being healthy is his problem! I think him being part of our large committee, he might finally have the chance to stay healthy.
Look, he recently came in at #13 on Matt Millers BR/1oo0 top 100 RB's
Seeing he just pled guilty to a mary Jane charge, he should come cheap.

Another move I'm all for, would be the team trying to make a trade for Knile Davis. That guy has mad potential, and is a waste sitting behind Jamal Charles. Bill & Andy have a trade history. Im just not sure for one they'd be willing to trade him, or two if we have anything other then draft picks that they'd be interested in. I do know we have a bunch of safeties though. Id trade a safety, a rb (maybe even blount) and a 4th for him in a heartbeat.

Chip Kelly is getting rid of everybody who doesn't like their role. He lost McCoy. But signed DeMarco Murray and Ryan Matthews. Is Darren Sproles available?

As far as Patriot RB's goes.......I'm a glass half full guy..

If BB see's a need or some injuries occur at the RB position, he'll sign someone. It's funny how the grass is always greener in the other team's yard to some fans. Blount is only gone for the first game. He's our bell cow back......Let's see what some of the youngster's have. They won't be on the team if they can't perform. If one or two show potential maybe they get on the PS. It's a team effort so if the OL does it's job and the young RB's perform like they can, anything can happen. I like raw diamonds.

They are set in terms of power backs but they don't have anyone as good as Vereen as the receiving back and lack a RB with the speed to turn the corner. They will probably be able to get decent production out of one of the third down backs but will have to find a super back in cuts or trade.

I'm honestly surprised Pierre Thomas is still available, unless it's age related.

Shonn Greene is about to be released, I've always found him underrated as he's played on some awful offenses. For the right price (wouldn't imagine him demanding much) I'd hope we take a look.

Mark my words.... Gaffney will be our staring RB by seasons end. Been rooting for this guy since pre-draft 2014.

Belichick isn't set with Gray as a power back. Why are you?

I think Blount, Gray, and Bolden give them enough inside the tackles and two of the three will make the team, I'm fine with that, if you think they need another power back feel free to make the case for it.
