Deflating deflategate --[Mod Edit] AEI Opinion Piece in NY Times

That's something that has escaped any scrutiny, what exactly are the officials doing when they are checking the footballs pre-game and why? Wells pretty much glossed over the actions by Anderson's crew, saying they always do everything right and do a great job. What about the overinflated balls in the Jets game? What about Rodgers saying they let too much air out? I understand why the league doesn't want it getting out that the officials might not always be super diligent about that activity, but that's another reason why they shouldn't have made a huge deal about this.

Agree w/the point in general, but I would also like to remind you that it's clear what the Wells Report was aimed toward: Not an investigation of the supposed regulatory breach, but an investigation of the N.E. Patriots.

If you are investigating the breach, you want to know everything from how gauges are calibrated to the actions of the officials.

If you are investigating the N.E. Patriots, not only is it okie-dokie to not explain the procedures the refs do/do not use - anywhere - it is also okay to reverse the testimony of the refs, and to mention in passing without any further investigation that nowhere do the refs write down their measurements.

There are a million things to investigate mentioned in passing in this report. There is only 1 thing the report aimed at doing: taking down your World Champion New England Patriots.

This is why I try not to type NFL* without the appropriate asterisk. They cheat.

I'm seeing a lot more ads for Kraft macaroni and cheese lately.

Coincidence?

I think not.

And he's not the only one in on it...

Man, Volin sucks so hard. He's just the worst, and I honestly wonder how he manages to stay employed.

Considering how badly he butchered one of his first real big stories here (Dennard assault case facts), I am surprised as well.

It possible that AEI self-funded this but to commit research resources without being "billable" doesn't totally addup for me.
Nah, it's a loss leader for them. They aren't getting any more work from the NFL after Bountygate, but a report like this gets them to the top of the list the next time the NFLPA needs an expert.... and likely they recoup the costs them...
If the costs were $100K as some speculated, with their annual revenue of $45 million, it's 2/10 of 1% or o.oo2 or put another way, they got lots of free PR (86,000 hits in Google news in last week) from it

How they think he is doing "lately" is immaterial. If he is the face of the losing end of a high profile court case it may have repercussions for him. I do not consider this likely but it is possible. Calm down, buddy.
First of all, I'm not your buddy. Secondly, hopefully you have some real buddies in that dream world in which you reside. Your opinions on this subject are child-like.

The whole reason this was blown into the massive crapfest it became was to cover up the fact that there were several NFL officials who were more than willing to allow what they thought was a rigged game to be played for the sole purpose of embarrassing the Patriots. Imagine, for a minute, if the game had been decided by a field goal or less and it came out that those officials had knowledge of something potentially game altering and said nothing.
We bailed them out on that one by: A) beating the crap out of the Colts and B) not doing anything wrong in the first place, but the narrative should have been much different and would have been but for the way those officials managed the lies and leaks. As long as they can maintain the illusion that the balls were tampered with their crime remains out of sight.

It could be as simple as somebody is a Pats fan and simply decided to use the resources at his disposal. Or maybe a researcher volunteered, or it could just be an anonymous Pats fan donated money. For that matter it could have been a Patriot hater who was hoping for a different conclusion.

If I had money to burn I would have someone research. So there may be no Kraft connection at all.

A possibility for sure.

$100k for that? Poking around a short list of numbers? Making a nice little graphic? I'm in the wrong business.

Yup, go into law. Wells allegedly got 50 times that for the piece of crap he put together... Put another way, Wells allegedly charged $5 million for 100 days of work or $50,000 per day ( assuming they worked weekends) or $6000 per hour the entire time.. That is a lot of money paid to high priced lawyers who don't know jack about science...
They could have paid an undergraduate physics major $400 and a couple of pizzas ( or the promise of getting him a date w a real live girl) and gotten a better report....

Hilarious. Also shows how stupid Felger is. Brady is well within in his right to not turn over his phone. NFL doesn't have subpoena or warrant power. Also if you are suspending Brady for not handing over a personal phone then where is Gostowski's suspension?

As for suspending him for lying that is laugh out loud funny. So because they think he is lying he should be suspended. "I think" is the weakest argument you could have in court. Which is where this is going.

Heard one of the guys who did this AEI report on T&R. Says the report was done on their own initiative and so far no one from the Patriots has contacted them regarding it.

This comment over a tthe Felger nonsense concisely sums up everything that's wrong with America.

"Brady's guilty. Give him his 4 games suspension and move on. Science or no science Brady cheated or attempted to hid cheating. Period. He will be inducted to the HOF but be known as a convicted cheater. That's justice and correct."

I don't need no stinkin' evidence, I JUST KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!
