OTAs aren’t exactly where players make or break their spot on a roster — unless you’re Wright, that is, but Ryan and Scott Chandler have been impressive so far.

Ryan made plays in his first two weeks of OTAs during 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills that showed off the ball skills that made him stand out in his first year in the league.

Chandler has been sure-handed and has shown off impressive athleticism for his 6-foot-7, 260-pound frame. He’s also been given special attention from starting quarterback Tom Brady in red-zone drills. Chandler appears primed for a big role in the Patriots’ offense in 2015 based on his use in OTAs.

One more player to watch in minicamp and training camp: linebacker James Morris. He could be primed for a top reserve linebacker spot with Brandon Spikes out of the picture.

I wasn't impressed with Ryan last season - in fact, I thought he flat out sucked - but it's nice to know he's had a good OTA so far. Doesn't mean a whole lot yet, but hopefully he can continue to show improvement into training camp and into the start of the season.

Also good to see Chandler fitting into our offense. Sounds like he is primed to be one of Brady's favorite targets, especially in the red zone.

Assuming health, the red zone offense should be near unstoppable this season. Three big bodied wideouts/TE's in Gronk, Chandler, and LaFell to go with the shifty white guys in Edelman and Amendola and Blount when you want to pound the rock.

I knew Chandler would be a beast.

Hes going to blow ip this season Weaker style.

Add Bolden and White.

Gibson could surprise some too.

Ball at opponent's 10 yard line. Lineup of Gronk & Chandler at TE, LaFell & Amendola (or Gibson) out wide, and Edelman in the backfield. Imagine defending that! You could run the TEs and WRs as straight blockers (LaFell, Amendola and Gibson are all great blocking WRs) and handoff to Edelman... Or you could release everyone into a pass route and have to defend 3 big targets and 2 small shifty targets all at once.... Depending on the defensive alignment, you could have major mismatches either way.

I liked Ryan his rookie year. Hopefully he gets back on track this year.

IF the NFL do not interfere in the game on the field (which I'm more and more skeptical due to recent events) I'm pretty confident this team is going deep in the playoffs again even with the questionable secondary.

Imagine if Dobson shows up.

No offense, but I feel OTA reports are useless. I think Logan is going to play above expectations (because he plays better when he gets more reps and seems to struggle when used sparingly).

Imagine if Dobson shows up.
I know right?! That would be even more awesome. Replace Amendola with Dobson and you've got 2 big targets, 2 REALLY big targets, and a smaller guy who can juke you right out of your cleats. What a nightmare for defenses.

I am hoping Dobson and Ryan show up. I do not believe they will.

Ideally I think they'd like Dobson to be a legitimate X-WR, which would allow them to use LaFell in more of a "joker" role, not to the degree but similar to what "Lifetime" did for us and many of us expected Wright to do. LaFell is actually more equipped to play as a flex TE than Wright, seeing as he can actually hold a block.

IIRC I think Ron Rivera had said at the time of LaFell signing with the Pats that he had experience at TE in their system as well. So, this idea is certainly plausible. He is a pretty good blocker, so I think it's a fine idea. He was a good outside WR for the team last year, but could potentially be an even better "joker", as you say.

So you start out in a spread formation with Gronk & Chandler at TE, Dobson outside, Edelman in the backfield and LaFell flexed into the slot, the defense counters in nickle... So then you shift LaFell down into a FB position, bring Dobson in tight, and let LaFell help blow open a lane for Edelman to run through... Sorry, just fantasizing :D

Wait until Tyler Gaffney burst on to the scene. He is an off the charts talent.

I was laughed at when I proposed putting Edelman in the backfield after cadet was signed (my point was mainly for 3rd down situations, but not necessarily limited to that). The big question is whether he could/would block and if he could handle the added injury risk.... I think the answer is 'yes.' As far as handing the ball off, we've only really seen him on jet sweeps, but I like the idea of Edelman draws against a distracted defense... or him being back there just as a distraction himself.

So many opportunities to confuse/reveal/mismatch against the defense with Gronk motioning back and forth from WR to TE, and Edelman going WR to RB. He's proven to be one of the best players in the NFL in space. One way or another, just get the guy the ball.

Gronkowski and Edelman are the team's best two weapons by a wide margin. It would be wise to use them in every way conceivable, even as decoys. Hell, put Gronk at RB! He did motion back there a few times last year.

How about a double flea flicker? Handoff to Edelman, he tosses backwards to Brady, Brady fakes a rush and then tosses back to Edelman again, Edelman lobs a 60 yard bomb to Gronk.
