Deflating deflategate --[Mod Edit] AEI Opinion Piece in NY Times

And how the hell has Bill Nye the science guy got a pass in all this?

That clown went on TV and said Beli was a liar, when it turns out Beli was right.

Bill Nye the Science Guy does not have a Master's Degree in any scientific field. He has a Bachelor's Degree. There are thousands of high school science teachers that have a more impressive background scholastically in science.

He is a happy fun person who wears a bow tie and looks like a cartoon, so dumb people think he's smart when he wears a lab coat and goggles.

He describes himself as an avid swing dancer. He wears a bow tie. Bill Nye is by no means an expert in anything other than how to get famous without any real credentials.

This is what we've been saying all along, NY Times finally gets it right. WHY did it take this long??

http://mobile.nytimes.com/2015/06/14/opinion/deflating-deflategate.html?smid=tw-share&_r=2&referrer=

Our study, written with our colleague Joseph Sullivan, examines the evidence and methodology of the Wells report and concludes that it is deeply flawed. (We have no financial stake in the outcome of Deflategate.)

Our recommendation? When the N.F.L. hears Mr. Brady’s appeal of his suspension later this month, it should proceed with the knowledge that the Wells report is unreliable.

FGS, that's not how the monolithic side of the media operates. Once they attach to a point of view from a story they do not reexamine it and say a collective 'whoops! we messed up'. Most of the media operates as a single human that is emotional, overly biased and temperamental. They decide on stories/memes partly based upon view-clicks and (emphasis on this) partly based upon on the whim of of their bias/ideology.
When your underlying motivation is based upon the whim of bias/ideology, you can all but forget about a 'we were wrong' mea culpa or any logical, thoughtful actions. They are going to emotionally latch to what they believed was right. dig their heels in, and/or ignore it and simply move on.

Just is what it is. Hopefully the proliferation of Internet media helps to sink/put out of business some of the entrenched M.O. of the monolithic media. Unlikely but possible...

It's not bizarre at all. If everyone were like Kraft, the Pats would have no fans.

I'm certainly disappointed in Mr Kraft's failure to respond to gross injustice in a brave and defiant fashion. But being more angry at that failure than "at Goodell, the Colts, and all the rest of the NFL and its fans" -- the true perpetrators of the injustice -- is blaming the victim. Why that should be is to me, at least, bizarre.

It took so long for a major media outlet to produce this because there is no vested interest, if the Globe or Herald posted this article it would have been dismissed as partisan rhetoric..

Our nation loves controversy, particularly controversy that minimizes the efforts of a winner, the underlying assumption is "they have to be cheating".. so many follow along.

The larger issue are the actions of the NFL in general from Kesslers comments on the field during the Colts game, to the communications prior to the game, leaking info to select mediots and the assumptions that were made prior to the actual investigation..

As much as this is good, I am waiting for the "big article" that exposes the corruption of the NFL and efforts of that office to discredit the Patriots..

We all should be cautioned that this is not a regular story of the NYT, it is an opinion piece written by folks who do not work for the NYT.... the authors are from American Enterprise Institute, a think tank..

What a surprise the NBA had a really exciting nba finals going on, and wham lets talk about deflategate.

DEFLATEGATE is over fellas, there could be a million new reports trashing the wells report,
When TB and his team, along with real "independent" studies, win this battle, you can bet the farm that TB will finally speak. He'll schedule a press conference and the media will pick up on it. Although I doubt it will match the circus of the original accusations.
it.

would.

not.

mater.

Kraft ACCEPTED the Penalty. In the court room of public opinion, they cheated, they are guilty. they cheated last year and every single year. That is the legacy kraft decided was worth NOT fighting to avoid.

LET IT GO.

He didn't. They were taken and regardless of what he did or said they weren't coming back. No one was more pissed off or disappointed in his surrender than I was. But the idea that he just handed the picks over is nonsense. I know it sounds good and feels better, but it's ********. Continuing to claim otherwise is knowingly perpetuating a lie.

Kraft didn't even put up a fight.

He hugged and kissed Goodell and asked " can I have another Sir?"

I'm still waiting for ESPN to post & link the Reiss recap on their main page

/crickets

PFT?

COME ON, FLORIO!

The silence is telling

The press will ignore this study.

Perhaps they will pick it up when Brady's hearing comes up.

99% of the public's and the media's opinion on this now boils down to a single text one guy wrote months before the game in question where he used the word deflator.

It would be funny, if the ramifications of that insanity weren't so significant for one of the best players in history and its finest franchise. But that is what Goodell and the league wanted, and the seals responded accordingly.

Is this legit? Heres where the report comes from... https://www.aei.org/

It's legit...yes they're right wing, no that doesn't make them evil. Data analysis can be done and interpreted by a monkey if the monkey knows the equations, how to apply them, and can use some basic logic. Apparently Wells and his team missed the boat on all counts, especially the logic piece. 1. the intercepted ball averaged around 11.52 PSI using three measurements from the Patriots gauge; this value is on the high end of acceptable, but more importantly it aligns with the halftime measurements from the gauge Anderson said he used (not the lower of the two gauges). 2. if the Colts balls were indoors for ~10 minutes before being measured--using logic, it makes perfect sense that they ran out of time at the tail end of halftime after having measured 11 Patriots balls then 'reinflating' them--then the Colts footballs fall in the expected range of that same gauge...hence no deflation occurred.

It's what we've been saying since the Wells report was first released, but we finally have an independent analysis of the numbers that pokes major holes in the Wells report, and it got into the NYT. This won't resonate with 31 fan bases who will never change their minds, but as far as Brady's suspension, this is the type of analysis Kessler and the NFLPA can use to tear Goodell a new one.

ESPN declared a code red. Emergency procedures- strict silence lest we be proven to be idiots.

Great read, finally someone using logic here...

I wonder if the NFL will finally relent and admit this witch hunt.

No way Brady's suspension holds, and the Pats better get their picks back.

Kraft should grow a spine and shove this report down Goodell's throat!!!

Keep dreaming on all accounts

Sadly, any new reports are useless.

Once Kraft did the about face and played Cave For Cash with Goody, the damage was done. And it's irreversible.

That's why no matter how many billions Kraft is worth, his opinion isn't worth 2 cents to me.
