Their are words of wisdom there. It will be interesting to see what the coaching staff decides.
No doubt we all would like to see something happen at CB (given it's a huge unknown right now) but the KC game should be a reminder of the importance of excellent protection for Brady. If the Pats are without Brady for any stretch of games, JAG is going to need all the time he can get to process information and make the right decisions. It's one thing to spell Brady, it's another to start.

@caplannfl: Knowing Mathis a bit, winning is important to him. Has a few good years left, so he could surface with a playoff bound team. We'll see.

Pats, Seahawks, Broncos, Colts. (packers/cowboys OLs are loaded).

Hopefully he realizes Denver is done.

Seahawks traded Max Unger in the Jimmy Graham trade. Can one of their guards play center?

Cut while being white .........

denver seems like the likely spot. they lost all of their starting lineman except for vasquez

Denver is probable, but would be a really dumb decision on his part. Manning is likely looking down the barrel of his final year in the NFL, with absolutely no O-Line to boot and while Owen Daniels is a dependable TE replacement, let's not underestimate the loss Julius Thomas will be.

The Broncos have gotten WORSE since last year, not better.

If winning a chip is his goal, his choice has to be between New England or Seattle. Other than that, he's either kidding himself or just really wants one final pay day.

Not sure.

The main issue IMO is even tough they do have $10m to spend, there are a handful of big-ticket extensions looming on the horizon that need to be addressed.

With the number of quality DT's in our division now. Mathis would be a wise investment IMO.

And it's OK to disagree. Their is only so much $ you can throw around to FA's. IMO...it's more important for the Patriots to spend that $ later on the secondary....then an offensive lineman shiny object today.

And if there was a secondary player worth signing, I'm with you. I just highly doubt a CB gets cut that will be worth the money spent on Mathis. And I absolutely don't see him as a shiny object. We're not talking about a TE or WR. OG isn't exactly s position of strength on our team right now. He has the ability to make our line one of the best in the NFL. That's something worth looking at, no matter what our secondary looks like.

Their is a loooong way to go before our 1st game. IMO our offense is just as impressive as last year. And call me crazy...but I think our secondary is much worse then last year.

If BB wanted to splurge on shiny objects....he would have done that already on more offensive players. We have 11M in cap space....obviously he is waiting and not jumping at every single shiny object Patriots fans want him to. JMO.

There is no doubt he would be able to come in and help our O-line plus with the addition of him, it means our toughest competition(Balt, Indy and Denver) wouldn't get him. I just wonder if it would be using our resources wisely as I would prefer if we use it for the secondary.
I hear you Ashley, but I don't see a highly talented CB out there right now. I do see a highly talented LG, though, and I'm all for making the team better. Outside of extending our young talent, I can't think of a better way to use the resources than signing top talent. Blowing millions on an average CB doesn't make sense to me.

Mathis wants more the the 11.5m he was going to make over 2 years. Connolly will take close to vet min. Do the math. I will pass on the shiny object.

I simply don't understand how you're looking at a OG as a "shiny object." We're not talking about a loaded position on our roster. Do you really see the OL as stacked?

I am only referring to that player and the amount he wants.

But he's one of the very best if not the best at his position, and it's a position we could certainly use an upgrade at.

Again, this isn't like if Jimmy Graham was on the market. We're more than fine at TE at the moment. I wouldn't be stoked about spending big money for him.

Also, if you can give me an example of a CB that has ever become available this late in the process that cost anywhere close to the cap space we have left, I'd be much more willing to wait and see. But we shouldn't sit on our cap space on the chance Joe Haden gets cut.

I think you make really good points. Right or wrong...IMO...I think we are waiting to trade or a FA at CB. We will see.

We still will have cap room to make an in-season trade for a cb. If you get him after 5-6 weeks, the rest of the salary is pro-rated. We can also save money off this year's number by extending Solder.

Not sure. All I know is there current LG and C are not ideal.

Anyone know if Mathis's strength is pass protection or run blocking? That could dictate if he would prefer Seattle or here.
