It's in the beginning. Both Costas and Patrick bring up Lebron, Serena Williams, Tiger, etc and Brady. They say his name twice without referring to Stupidgate....They even bring up Manning (I was about to have a fit) but then prefaced it by saying only for reg season :). Honestly feel deflategate will be deflated as time goes on....

Maybe the script has flipped and the networks are trying to work people up by supporting the patriots rather than calling them out. More outrage to be fueled that way as fewer Pat fans probably defend the team as much as they used to...as you know, the owner can't be bothered to do that either.

If that isn't the biggest premature accolade ever. The 21st century still has another 85 years...duh!

I really can't think of many..if ANY better athletes out there in this generation who wins like he does.

Jordan was and is the man but Brady is also the man

I don't care what any clown says #drivefor5 and tell Goodell to shove it on the podium

Michael phelps. And this coming from a non swimming fan. And he's a ravens fan.

I can't wait till PFT posts this story.

The comments section will be comedy gold! :D

Dude has won four Superbowls and played in 9 AFC Championship games. He's always there. 6 Superbowl appearances.

Of course he's the athlete of the century. Nobody else comes close.

its costas , wish it was someone else. plus they are of course only talking about american sportsmen mostly.

Beats what he got from Joe M yesterday. That's positive enough for me!

Michael Phelps comes to mind immediately. Phelps simply couldn't have done anything more, I hear he'll be competing in 2016 too. The next one that comes to mind isn't a fan favorite but Lance Armstrong, can take his medals away but he was a machine. Usain Bolt. Brady is the GOAT QB for sure, when I think athlete I think remarkable speed/endurance.. etc.. athleticism. You also have people like Lionel Messi, Ronda Rousey. Brady just wouldn't be my go to for the term "athlete".

They have to definite 'athlete'. I'm assuming it's just being used as a synonym for 'sports player'?

If so, I'd have LeBron and Brady as the top 2 for this century so far.

Tom Brady is the best player ever at his position, however it's very difficult for me to say that he's above Michael Phelps, Usain Bolt and Serena Williams. These three are easily the most dominant athletes at their respective sports who's performances in this century are, from a practical standpoint, unfathomable.

Isn't the criteria American sportsperson? Surely there's some 200 competition winning ten pin bowler going around...

If the criteria is American atheletes then Phelps would have gotten my vote with Brady a close second. If it's international, it gets more tricky because Federer is up there winning all those tennis Majors and beating Sampras as well. I would also consider Lionel Messi conquering the world's biggest sport and regarded as the GOAT in soccer

I love Brady, but his ultimately a team sport too (though one could say he makes those team members better which makes him far more valuable than his stats alone).

Phelps is going up against the "literal" best in the world. It's Phelps and pretty much everyone else is 2nd tier.

Commonly known as "premature accoladulation"... a medical condition common among old sportscasters...

GOAT would include every century, right?

With the way James is carrying that Cavs team of cast-offs, there is no debate.
