Patriots sign Derek Cox

Cox, 28, appeared to be one of the NFL's most promising young corners in 2012 with Jacksonville. He signed a big contract with San Diego the following year, and immediately fell off the map.

Low risk signing but looks like he really has trouble staying healthy then was repeatedly torched and benched in 2013

That's outstanding.

Drafted 3rd round 2009 ......
He's been cut a few times recently ... sounds like a JAG.
Although he was a former non JAG. a few years ago was a solid outside #2 corner. I see him as more of a potential reclamation project.

Actually that was when he was on the Jaguars so you could say even then he was a JAG. ;)

In 2009, the Patriots traded a third-round pick to the Jaguars, who selected Cox. In turn, the Patriots received a seventh-round draft pick (WR Julian Edelman) and a 2010 second-rounder that was in a position (No. 44) that allowed the club to jump to No. 42 to select tight end Rob Gronkowski.

Classic Belichick.

Tarell Brown must really be playing hardball it seems...

Thought he would have been the first CB we signed once Revis and Browner were gone, now months later, he's still on the market and we signed a guy out of the league for a year.

Guess he's more concerned with guaranteed money, then a shot at being a #1 CB on a Super Bowl contender. His loss, I guess.

Imagine if the Pats' week 1 starters were Fletcher and Cox... and they were actually good... PatsFans would have a damn heart attack.

You never know what's going on could be a lingering health issue. Some team would have signed him by now if there wasn't something weird going on with him

Along with Eagles and Chargers fans. Among others.

Best part of fantasizing that is it's not totally unbelievable. That link to the SD analysis suggests Cox could have been and maybe could still be good given (and taking) good coaching. One thing we know is that any player coming to the Patriots will have confidence in the quality of coaching they will be given. Now let's see what these guys do with it.

So why was he out of football last year?

BB believes he can coach up any player with potential, sometimes it works, sometime it doesn't...

Right now is in the 80's on this roster, but he can climb up..

OTOH do not be surprised that he is let go shortly.. the continual tinkering of the roster.
