Where's Butler?

I called 98.5 's Adam Jones today. Even though I told the screener twice that I am Patscap. Adam was not sure that I was and asked me on Twitter if I was the Miguel who called.

The CBA prohibits the changing of an UDFA contract during its first two years.
Quoting CBA:
(ii) A Rookie Contract for an Undrafted Rookie may not be renegotiated, amended or altered in any way until after the final regular season game of the player’s second contract year.

Adam then tweeted "Ahh my mistake! Thanks for correcting so I didn't sound like an idiot for any longer than I had to. Why would CBA want to prohibit?"

Congrats. Well done.

It saddens me that journalists are only selectively skeptical. Instead of confirmation bias, not verifying stuff they believe to be true, I wish they did similar due diligence before rushing to "report" on stories & events. I know, I just fell off the turnip truck.

It's a mistake to think of someone like Jones as a journalist. He's an entertainer. Reiss is a journalist.

The key insights I've gained from this thread: regardless of the reason (which we don't know, and may never know) this is not good. Butler is missing important time with the team for getting reps, coaching, and team bonding. So even if he has a very good reason, this is an unfortunate and inauspicious start to his 2015 season.

Still have high hopes for him though!!! He was amazing in the postseason last year. If he can live up to 1/3 of what we all expect out of him, he'll be a starter. :)

After the season was over, many folks thought that Butler might or might not make the team.

Might? Even if Revis and Browner had returned, it would still have taken an improbable series of events to push Butler off the 2015 roster.

We don't know why Butler isn't there. It is that simple.

After the season was over, many folks thought that Butler might or might not make the team. The doubters were convinced that he was likely to make it, even if he were the #5 CB.

When we lost a complete backfield (Revis, Browner, Arrington, Dennard and Chekwa), all of a sudden Butler was a sure starter.

As others have said, Butler NEEDS practice time.
I can't recall reading even one post like that.

I saw Butler at an autograph signing yesterday. All seemed well.

Malcom Brown, on the other hand, did not appear despite being scheduled to. When I returned my autograph ticket for a refund, they said they weren't sure what happened but heard he may have had food poisoning.

Was his car unattended?

Did he have a bowl of NE Clam Chowda?? Perhaps he was used to gumbo or crawfish chowder??

Good to see he's still breathing. Hopefully we can glean some insight from this week's OTAs.

Man some of you guys need to relax around here. If he was awol for training camp it would be a different story. But for a returning player, especially a defender how much value does OTAs really serve anyway? It's all about learning the terminology, which he knows and getting some chemistry/ timing offensively which doesn't apply to him. Also Adam jones is the biggest amateur going on the radio. He's felger-lite shtick is an absolute swing and miss everything with his lack of charisma/deadpan delivery and relative lack of knowledge. He seems like a decent enough guy compared to the 2-6 shmucks but he really needs to change his style and start something different because his version of the felger contrarian act isn't even engaging/entertaining it's boring and stale.

It's the slow season around here

Come on, now. I think the tone of this thread is pretty much what it should be--mostly lighthearted, some jokes, but also an honest question of why he's not there. If a player is really engaged and shows up first at the facility, etc. etc. everyone's thrilled and talks about how great it is, so it's a little disingenuous to have a guy--who many have high hopes for--not show up at the OTAs and say, "eh, relax, they're a waste of time anyway."

I guarantee BB thinks OTAs are important. Because they are. Coaching, reps, bonding. All important. Is it the end of the world to miss them? No. But put it this way: when was the last time Brady missed them?

That opinion changed on one play. He didn't become different player because of one play.
Those that saw potential still should, those that saw issues still should. The reality is somewhere in the middle.
