Where in God's name did you pull these numbers from? For what it's worth, Logan Ryan was the #3rd CB on the team in reps last year, and almost took over the #2 spot from Browner. Ryan played almost 50 percent of the snaps throughout the season, not "twice as many as 16." The reality is that he played 507. That's much different from "32."

Here are the official numbers. Butler played 182 snaps by the way, not "16."

Darrelle Revis -- 1,023 of 1,096 (93.3 percent)

Brandon Browner -- 582 of 1,096 (53.1 percent)

Logan Ryan -- 507 of 1,096 (46.3 percent)

Kyle Arrington -- 448 of 1,096 (40.9 percent)

Alfonzo Dennard -- 238 of 1,096 (21.7 percent)

Malcolm Butler -- 182 of 1,096 (16.6 percent)

When you consider Browner was suspended for 4 games, he played 582 /822 (estd prorating 12/16) or 70.8% of snaps when eligible....

The Patriots faced -

Kyle Orton x2
Geno Smith x2
Ryan Trannehill x2
Derek Carr
Matt Cassell
Andy Dalton
Jay Cutler
Matthew Stafford
Alex Smith
Aaron Rodgers
Peyton Manning
Joe Flacco
Andrew Luck x2
Phillip Rivers

They faced a lot of bad QBs.

The idea that this could even be theoretically possible is kind of depressing.

That said, his measureables are really good. I don't expect anything from him since I don't expect anything from any 7th rounder, but on athleticism alone taking a flyer on him is justified.

You are right. My memory ain't what it used to be.
Mine neither:)

Only reason I remember was that I was in Japan for the Bills 31-0 waxing of the Pats and my buddy emailed me going postal on why Wilson didn't start ahead of Harris even though he had a great pre-season.

Reading comprehension is a lost art.

No one but you would react like such a idiot to a typo.

Butler was so good last year that he total 16 of the defensive reps. Butler was clearly our #6 CB. Ryan played more than twice as many reps.

You know much better than to react that way because there is a missing word in my post. As you noted, Butler played 16 PERCENT of the defensive reps, and Ryan played more than twice as many. An, as uyou demonstrated, Butler was clearly there #6 corner. The primary point is that Ryan should be considered way, way ahead of Butler in the depth chart.

FTR, I posted

"Butler was so good last year that he total 16 of the defensive reps. Butler was clearly our #6 CB. Ryan played more than twice as many reps."

To be fair, one could use "what have you done for me recently" to argue against that notion:

http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/new-...aps-cornerback-malcolm-butler-shines-on-no-18

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- A look at snaps played by New England Patriots defensive players in Super Bowl XLIX:

CORNERBACK

Brandon Browner -- 53 of 53

Darrelle Revis -- 53 of 53

Kyle Arrington -- 25 of 53

Malcolm Butler -- 18 of 53

Logan Ryan -- 5 of 53
-------------------------------

BB also had Butler replace Revis in the AFCCG when he was injured for a drive. I don't think it's fair to say Ryan has an edge on Butler.

I'm, going to try to take a stab at this, but.......it's because there are a lot of bad starting QB's in the NFL?

for 2015, the pats have 8 games against teams who are not set with their starting QB's......just sayin'

Someone claimed on this forum that he was spotted wearing one of the bigger mushroom helmets a few weeks ago. I can't remember if it was during the beginning of May/middle of May, but I want to say that it was right around that time. I've tried to search around and confirm this, but haven't been able to verify.

Much like you, I wish the best for him, but I'm not going to worry yet until he's missing TC reps into August.
I agree ... I think usually the media fleshes these issues out ...
So when they cannot then I start thinking HIPAA.

Don't get your panties in a bunch over there. All you had to do was explain yourself. Let's not go overboard with the "reading comprehension is a lost art" comment when you were the one who made the mistake--not me.

I obviously didn't quote your comment because I meant to nitpick or thought you left out a word. I simply asked "where in God's name did you come up with those numbers?" If that comes off as too offensive to you, then I'm not sure what to say, but the intent wasn't to piss you off or insult you.

Idea for new thread: Pats rookies to earn starting spot week 1.
That would be pretty cool trip down memory lane

Unless something surprising happens between now and the season opener, I expect Fletcher to be one starter and I would think the other starter would be between Ryan and Butler.

If Logan Ryan is a Stater we are in trouble!

Ryan is serviceable as a spot-starter and good in zone coverage- perhaps even in the slot.

If he is asked to play man-to-man for an extended period of time they are inviting disaster.

Aaron Rodgers
Peyton Manning
Andrew Luck
Russell Wilson
Joe Flacco
Matthew Stafford
Philip Rivers

Add Big Ben, Romo, and (maybe) Brees, and that seems like every top-10 QB in the NFL not named Brady. Pretty much as good a slate of QBs as a team can face in a season.

As opposed to this year

Roethlisburger
Cassel x2
Bortles
Romo
Luck
Smith x2 (or Fitzpatrick)
Tannenhill x2
Griffin
Manning
Manning
Bradford (? He could be hurt by the time this game happens)
Hoyer/Mallet
Mariotta

I count 3 QBs Roethlisburger (Although Pats will be looking for blood and a statement in this one), Romo (more of because it is in Dallas) and E. Manning, for obvious reasons.

Peyton Manning is a big question with the way his season ended, will have to see how he starts the season. Plus Pats get him at the end of Nov. Luck, sorry but until he can beat the Pats I don't put him in that list.

Other than that a whole lotta mediocre and suck this year. I know people will say Tannenhill but do you really see him traveling up to Foxboro on 3 days rest and winning and the 2nd game in Week 16 is in Miami which who knows might be a "protect the starters" game.

He's the rookie I'm rooting for the most. He certainly has the measurables, size, length, and speed. It's his technique that needs a lot of improving, which is why I suspect Belichick was coaching him one on one.

I seriously doubt it. A rookie being a starter week 1 on a Belichick team is rare especially for a seventh round draft pick. Even first round picks like Vince Wilfork and Richard Seymour got limited playing time early in their rookie season.

Could Roberts emerge over the course of the season? Sure. But I really doubt he will be a day one starter. I am leaning to him not even being active week 1 even if by week 17 he is the Pats #1 CB.

Belichick stated that CB was the easiest position on defense for a rookie to come in and contribute right away because it's more about physical technique than schematics from an X and O standpoint. He said that safety was the hardest to learn.

Ummm, if a 7th round rookie ends up our #1 CB that means that he was an unbelievable steal... or our secondary is in deep horse doo doo!

Ras-I Dowling started week 1 his rookie year even though he missed most of the preseason with an injury.

Alfonzo Dennard was a starter by week 5 his rookie year after missing all of the preseason.
Yeah and look where it got them.

Neither is a career model I'd like to see any of our rookies emulate.
