Joe Montana thinks Deflategate is "no big deal"

Yes and no. He basically said that he never cheated but his teammates did and that TB12 should fess up.

Screw that.
Still better than what some of these morons are saying. Not saying we should do what he says either

He literally said "I wish I'd known [it could make a difference] because I couldn't throw a wet ball to save my life." Sure sounds like hes accusing of Brady of getting an unfair competitive advantage to me.

Not exactly a supportive stance from Montana. Very passive aggressive. He's also ignorantly assuming guilt.

Wouldn't be surprised if he feels little bitter towards Brady since you could easily argue Tom is the G.O.A.T. over him.

Guys.....

Montana, who called Brady a great quarterback who has had a great career, said this “doesn’t take anything away from Tom’s game,” and added that everybody is trying to gain a competitive edge.

Joe doesn't have all the facts (and neither do we), and he probably hasn't read the entire report. While naming a position, but not naming names, he acknowledged that his own team cheated, and said this was no big deal. Short of him ripping off his shirt, pinching his nipples and screaming "I love you Tom!", what more did you expect from the guy?

Funny, he sure wasn't saying things like this back in late January.

When deflate gate first broke, wasn't Montana one of the many that **** on Brady and said he was lying and it tainted Brady's legacy? I guess he's still saying Brady is lying but now its no big deal... I loved you when you were playing Joe, but now not so much what with your 'holier than thou (Brady)' attitude.

Last thing that Montana said that made some sense was him pimping Hass Avocado's in a previous Superbowl, I though geez this guy must be pretty hard up to taking on that gig.

I thought to myself at that time, how the mighty have fallen...

“Guacamole made with Hass avocados is one of my favorite game day snacks – it’s easy to make and delicious. I hope all the football fans out there enjoy my Nacho Guacamole recipe as much as I do.”

People who are generally aware of what's going on think the Patriots did it. Period.

That includes former players, even the ones saying, "Who cares? Everyone does things to gain an advantage."

There are a couple of reporters - Curran, Florio, the woman from the Post - who are looking deeper and screaming, "DID WHAT?!?!?!" but their voices are buried under a sea of suspicion and baked-in feelings. That first leak from the NFL sealed it for most people - I'm betting the majority still think the Patriots balls were 2lbs under.

That's the way media/propaganda works: sets the initial truth into someone's mind and changing what someone "knows" is next to impossible.

Again, I watched Michael Strahan - who likes and respects Brady and speaks highly of the guy and the team all the time - say that the Patriots got caught taping practices. That's what he "knows" from "Spygate."

Thanks Joe. Always good to see another player point out just how ridiculous this whole thing is.

So, to sum up:

The 2nd best QB of all doesn't consider a little PSI adjustment to be a big deal, and he admits that his team was guilty of greasing up the uniforms, while the best WR of all time, who played on the same team as Mr. Montana, has admitted to using stickum on his gloves.

Could someone remind me of how many draft picks, games and millions were forfeited by the 49ers over these instances of cheating?

Also, the only team in contention with the Patriots for "Greatest NFL dynasty" is now an admitted (at least 2 times) cheater.

I never liked the "it's no big deal" approach. It implies that something wrong was done, and there's zero evidence of any wrongdoing.

There are plenty of teams that got caught cheating and were fined draft picks and cash, and the 49ers are near the top of that list. Maybe at the top. My favorite though is the Dolphins' loss of a first round pick and cash for tampering to bring in Shula in 1970. That led directly to their cherished undefeated season. Apparently, the old fart keeps forgetting that when he takes public shots at the Pats.

The question then becomes what is different between the 49ers and Dolphins reputations and the Pats. Is it related to the fact that our owner has decided to roll over and play dead for the Commish or is it the attack of the mediots?

It's your own fault for watching or listening to Michael Strahan. Isn't he the guy who cheated the sack record one year when Favre took a dive for him?

This latest fiasco has shown just how much influence the mediots have over the thoughts of the public. I go through the same bs with some Pats fans I talk with.

I hope Kraft is happy with the team's legacy that he's allowing to be trashed.

Of course he's taking shots at Brady. He is to QBing what Shula is to HCing. A petty, cheating hypocrite.

I don't get his logic. If it is no big deal, why should Brady and the Pats just lay down and take a punishment for what would be a major deal. Well, Kraft did lay down, but Brady won't.

That was before Jerry Rice admitted to use illegal Stickum (actually he has admitted before, but no one cared until now). Now if he makes this a big deal, people can say his legacy is tainted because his best receiver cheated.

so, what i gather from montana is he thinks the air pressure inside a football ( decreased by mother nature) is more important to throwing , catching and not fumbling than a sticky foreign substance on the outside of the ball.

oh... ok.

love to see this guys sat scores.

They just lost a draft pick (5th round) and got a $600K fine for cheating on the salary cap

Just another sports figure commenting on Deflate Gate without having read the Wells report.

Move along, nothing to see here.

I guess the Ideal Gas Law didn't work properly in the 1980's or Joe never played in a cold weather game.

But at least he admitted to being "generally aware" of his offensive linemen cheating. Wonder if he was "generally aware" of Mr. Sticky Fingers.
How could he not know and how could the refs not know when there had to be stickum on the ball after Rice caught it...
Ever tried to get that stuff off???
