Montana, who called Brady a great quarterback who has had a great career, said this “doesn’t take anything away from Tom’s game,” and added that everybody is trying to gain a competitive edge.

“Our offensive linemen used to spray silicone on their shirts until they got caught. Once you get caught, you get caught. Period. It doesn’t take anything away from Tom’s game. But how long has he been doing it? I don’t know.

“It is one of those things that is a rule, right?” Montana said. “It might be a dumb rule, but it doesn’t matter. He didn’t deflate them himself, but you can pick up the ball and can tell if it is underinflated, overinflated or what you like. Everybody is afraid to say it, but if the guy did it, so what. Just pay up and move on. It’s no big deal.”

Maybe it matters to some that a hof qb who is the only qb who can even be considered better backs Brady but it doesn't matter tk me.

Let's get the suspension eliminated first.

"everybody is trying to gain a competitive edge." So what did you do Joe? If you really want to defend Brady by saying everyone does something like that come out and admit it, tell everyone the specifics on what QBs have done over the years so people are forced to acknowledge that everyone does gamesmanship. But of course you won't, none of you ex-players will, because you are all perfectly content seeing Brady's reputation get unjustly **** on while yours remains squeaky clean.

Frauds

**** off joe,

Papa john is calling

Eh. He's a little off. But I give him props for actually realizing that even if Brady did do this, it's no big deal. He's right on that front.

Go watch classic games and catch a Montana game. The dude honestly isn't even in Brady's ****ing league. He's just 80's nostalgia wrapped over a person, kind of like Hulk Hogan. Compare the two in actual games and not highlight reels and Tom Brady is just a lot F'N better.

Brady is to Montana what Montana was to Bradshaw.

Yes and no. He basically said that he never cheated but his teammates did and that TB12 should fess up.

Screw that.

I would suggest watching a few more games of Montana. You are not giving the man enough credit.

Thanks Joe. Always good to see another player point out just how ridiculous this whole thing is.

So, to sum up:

The 2nd best QB of all doesn't consider a little PSI adjustment to be a big deal, and he admits that his team was guilty of greasing up the uniforms, while the best WR of all time, who played on the same team as Mr. Montana, has admitted to using stickum on his gloves.

Could someone remind me of how many draft picks, games and millions were forfeited by the 49ers over these instances of cheating?

Also, the only team in contention with the Patriots for "Greatest NFL dynasty" is now an admitted (at least 2 times) cheater.

Meh

He basically said it's no big deal that Tom did it. He sure doesn't seem to think they're innocent

It reads as if he hasn't been paying much attention and thinks it's much ado over nothing.

I'm guessing he's completely unaware that worst case the balls lost 20‰ more pressure than what nature would cause. Such a small amount that the gauges couldn't detect it with certainty.

His stance on the guilt more reinforces my feelings about the media than makes me question my feelings about Montana.

I guess the Ideal Gas Law didn't work properly in the 1980's or Joe never played in a cold weather game.

But at least he admitted to being "generally aware" of his offensive linemen cheating. Wonder if he was "generally aware" of Mr. Sticky Fingers.

But I'll give him some credit, as others have mentioned, for saying it's no big deal.

What he said wasn't really that bad....dunno why people are mad at him. I don't like that he thinks Pats did it but he's saying it doesn't matter even if Pats did.

Is this the papa johns guy? Who cares what he thinks :)
